AT&T to Offer Special "iPlan" Data Plan for iPhone, Leaves Bad Taste in Your Mouth

AT&T is set to unveil a specialized data plan for iPhone called iPlan. We first heard rumors about this plan in the works last week, and as expected it ain't gonna be pretty. iPhones users will be expected to sign contracts accompanied by iPlans that start at $34.99, going up to $44.99. This according to Boy Genius Report..
The iPhone data plan will be around $34.99-$44.99 and feature unlimited data, and either 2000 text messages, or unlimited text messages (we still have not confirmed which, but unlimited text messages would be awesome).

That's in line or better than AT&T existing data plans as far as I can tell.
Well the problem is that AT&T offers a $19 unlimited data plan for common phones. For any device the company labels as "PDA", they charge twice as much for what is essentially the same service. For example, I currently use an unlocked Treo 650 which I purchased outside of AT&T's walled garden of device offerings. Because of this I use the unlimited data plan for just $19. Had I acquired the same phone directly through AT&T they would have automatically doubled my rate.
So for me, upgrading to the iPhone results in having to pony up twice the cash for the same service. Needless to say I am not happy with that arrangement, but then again I am powerless to do anything other than whine and shake my fists.
Do you have any more info on this? or maybe point me into the right direction?
