I traded in my motola Q with window moble and I could not be happier . It was soooo slow and a major pain to use every day. I felt that Dangers sidekicks was a better user experience then windows. Too bad that it ended up as a closed system. I feel that apple ,while closed now, will not let the carriers dictate the future of the devices true potential. The iPhone, unlike window moble, will continue to get better every month or so. There will be some more surprises to look forward to ;)

My review is nearly finished. I'll elaborate much further on my statements and clarify any ambiguities.

The bottom line is, it all comes down to plumbing, or rather the engine beneath the hood. iPhone is powered by a REAL desktop class operating system, where other Smartphone platforms like PalmOS/Windows Mobile/Symbian/Blackberry are driven by micro-sized embedded operating systems that are primitive and highly limited by comparison. That was my meaning when I referred to these devices as "dumbphones". Because they are in fact brain dead platforms. Some less so than others, as is the case with Windows Mobile, but the iPhone takes mobile software to an entirely new plateau.

The impact iPhone will have on the mobile industry will change everything. So much in fact that, some platform may not stand the test of time, as I believe will ultimately be the case with RIM and Symbian.

Microsoft is the wild card. They are the only player in this game that has the potential to answer Apple.

But you'll have to wait for my review to read my full opinion. Coming soon. I promise.

No, they aren't contradictions, just used in different contexts. From a feature standpoint iPhone is incomplete.

When I said that iPhone surpasses smartphone platforms I was referring to the fact that OSX (running on iPhone) is far more advanced and innovative than any current mobile operating system. I stand by both statements because they are BOTH true at the same time.

Were these comments written by the same people?

"iPhone is a first generation product that feels, at times, more like a prototype than a finished product. Like an unbaked pie that promises so much goodness, but yet needs more time to bake. " 07-12-2007

"So far my overall impressions are best condensed into one sound bite - iPhone is an absolutely amazing first generation product that surpasses even third and fourth generation smartphones, which are now best described as dumbphones by comparison." 07-01-2007

If so, I think we have a credibility issue here as those two statements totally contradict each other.
