micah u fail to see the picture. Obviously java along with flash and others things are issues………. When u pay 600$ for a phone and no java or flash is supported then there’s an issue.. Because even free or 20$ phones come with java.

I understand what Java is, but I realize that my rambling covered two issues that are actually separate (business use and java implementation) so was confusing.

I’m sure that java on the iphone would be a benefit, I’m just saying that to ME it’s obivously not a major issue since I never noticed it being gone in the first place

I don't think you quite understand what Java is and how it's used, Micah. Java is not a simply a "business tool", it is a programming language used in consumer devices as well, particularly cell phones. Even games designed for mobile phones are based on Java. So don't be so quick to conclude this a non-issue.

For myself it serves as yet another example of why Apple needs to open iPhone to platform development, so consumers as well as business customers can benefit from a richer user experience.

From the very outset it's been obvious that the iphone was developed, packaged and sold as a consumer item, not a prosumer/business/power user item. When iphone first came out there was quite a bit of clammoring about how the iphone missed the mark for business applications... uhm... DUH? It isn't aimed at business applications, so of COURSE it missed that mark.

I find the lack of Java to be a complete and total non-event. In fact I didn't even know the iphone wasn't Java compatible until right now when I read Kent's article.

The only point here being that for the general consumer, or even the apple-focused consumer such as me, the iphone doesn't apparently need java.

That said, I can't imagine why apple would take a "stance" on something like this. Why not just say "Java isn't supported, but it might be in the future, we haven't decided."

Whatever. Like I said, to me the lack of Java support is a non-issue.
