It's interesting how on one hand we have all these "push" and "instant" apps alerting us to email, IMs, Tweets, etc. tending towards a constant basis, and on the other we have GTD gurus like Merlin Mann advising us to scrap IM and turn off email except for very brief, specifically planned periods (or that 3 hr. work week guy outsourcing his email to a 5min. phone call with a lady in Canada...)

I know I personally don't run IM because I literally can't get any work done when under that level of availability (read: interruption), and am considering GTD-style email measures as that's difficult enough to work through (yet strangely I have time to post here, hmmm, connection...?)

I think notification should be an option, for sure, and think Apple will progress towards that, yet it will need management as a phone that is constantly beeping to get your attention becomes a phone you get used to ignoring (or worse-- gets into an attention notification arms race shudder)

I know that you know that I know that you want to jailbreak.

Jobs said VoIP via Wi-Fi will be a go post-App Store anyway...

Except you wont be able to get incoming notifications, like in this app. Apparently even in suspend it can receive incoming IM's, and will beep when it does.
