I hope it can be turned off. I'd rather continue to unlock to check things.

@Anon, I love to blog about everything related to jailbreaking. Not to long ago I did a top jailbroken apps article and the second one is going to drop in early December. If you or anyone else has any jailbroken apps they would like to mention for me to include, please feel free to email me.

@jeremy, well while those people complain about what they don't have, I enjoy that which is available. It serves me very well. You should mention that these options are available while lamenting that the exact solution implemented exactly how you want it is not availabe yet (or ever possibly). That would be the right thing to do. I would also like to see you guys review more of the apps outside Job's sandbox.

Audible is fine and dandy but not good enough, IMHO. But I understand where you are coming from and I am not a stranger to jailbreaking. But... while everyone who is currently not interested in Jailbreaking is enjoying the latest firmware, jailbreakers are forced to wait. ;)

@ jeremy, it has an audible tone individualized for each different type of notification and it works regardless of whether the screen is on or not...

Does it not do everything that you requested? (I'm not talking about the app 'status notifier' but 'notifier')...

As to why everyone doesn't jailbreak: not my problem, you can lead a horse to water....

@Jeremy

I agree this is basically a design for an additional layer. so you won't need to turn on the main screen to get notified. I predict this will be on the 3rd gen iPhone. Along with video of course and an HD Screen. Woot =)

@Anon, that is all fine and dandy but not everyone with a iPhone jailbreaks it. Also you still have to turn the screen on to check for messages with "notifier" or "intelliscreen". Think this is something a bit better wouldn't you say?

Dude, jailbreak and install "notifier" and you can haz all you desire. Includes different tones for different events and allows you to control time interval of notifications....

Supports vm, email, sms, and missed call notifications. All individually controlled.

Also has small icon on the menu bar indicating which you have received....
