UPDATED: AT&T Service Outage in Your Area?
UPDATE: Looks like neither Skynet's first strike nor a Cylon invasion were to blame, but a power failure in Michigan. AT&T has put out a press release (via Chicago Breaking News -- Thanks Jeremy!). Here's hoping everyone gets their ubiquitous connectivity back ASAP.
Both Jeremy (Chicago) and Dieter (MN) seem to be having no-joy with their AT&T service today. (I'm on Rogers, so aside from poverty, I'm fine thanks!)
How's it holding up in your area? Loud and clear, or data fail?

No service in Flint, Mi. Haas anybody heard of any estimated service restoration?
In Chicago just south of downtown. No service. Girlfriend lives in the West loop and all is working fine.

3G has been down all day in Plymouth, MI. It has to be a wireless only problem. I have AT&T land line and U-verse service with internet and everything but the cells are working fine.
I sent a text!!!! It's amazing how you start to appreciate the little things...
Can someone make a phone call for me? LOL! I'm calling at&t as soon as service is restored to be compensated for my trouble. Luckily I don't have any emergencies where I would rely on it. the iphone too isn't all it's blown up to be. very sorry i bought into this fad.
5:31pm in Northville MI (NW of Detroit). Service has been down since sometime this morning. I imagine there's a lot of peoplepissed at me because I'm not returning their calls.
And I thought I could live without a land line! Stupid me! What if I had a effing emergency?
No service since 10:00 a.m. in northern suburbs of metro detroit near where failure occurred in Bloomfield, Michigan. I have an older iphone, my sis lives in same area, her 3G works on and off. No word on restoration. U-verse phone, internet and tv still working. (knock on wood)! Do we need Fed bailout for AT&T???
Just after my last post I called all 3 phones and service is working, Plymouth, MI.
Chicago area problems. Seems our newer phones (iPhone& new Razr) don't work while my older Treo 650 is fine.

Grand Rapids MI was ok, at least until 2:00 pm, by then I was in Lansing and had lost service. Northern Burbs of Detroit are still down.

I live in Elgin, a suburb of Chicago. No service since noon. I was actually in an ATT store when the network went down. They had little info at the time. I went with my week old IPhone cause it stopped connecting to my home network. They could not help. Thoughts?
Hadn't had service all day...fifteen minutes ago got bars, but still no calls. My Nokia says error in connection when I try to call, but a text just went through. I live in the Metro Detroit Area. (Romulus, 48174).
Still no service in Detroit. Thank goodness I have a LAN line at home if for some reason there were an emergency. I can't believe that the winds (not tornado) caused this much havoc. Doesn't at&T have redundancy for back-up?! I am not happy!

Nothing in Chicago as of 4:45. I went to the AT&T store around noon. They changed the SIM and I had service for about an hour. Then it went out again. I went back to the store and they said there were major network problems - expected to be back on line in 3 hours. I also have Treo on AT&T. I have a signal but get an 'invalid phone number' error when I try to make a call.
LAN line? lololol Landline?

5:45 PM Menu bars just popped up onscreen here in W. Bloomfield MI, but no service yet. Does anyone know if DSL services in Detroit area are working? If that is down I probably don't need to go to work tomorrow. What a shame.

NOT WORKING IN FARMINGTON HILLS, MICHIGAN since today morning.
As of now, I have no service at all, either voice or data, in the western suburbs of Detroit. Except for a brief period of time around 2 PM when 3G service returned for about 15 minutes, it's been that way since late morning. Zero service, zero bars.

Just talked to AT&T customer service and they are having a 7 state outage. Currently they are unsure of when service will be restored. The states include (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska).

Definitely. When there's an outage this large, an announcement should be the first thing I see upon logging into the AT&T Wireless website to check my account.
No AT&T service in Wyandotte, Southfield, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield suburbs in Michigan at least since 12 PM. Checked with local AT&T store, they report problem with signal transmission due to power outage via DTE. Called 1-800 no for wireless support which says they are closed on Sunday. What a loser????
I have lots of bars, i just get unassigned number. Texts say they are going through but i have not got any responses yet. Im really upset att does not have this on their website. some of us only have cell phones ugggh

This morning when I was at LAX, coming back to Detroit, I started having problems making and receiving calls at 8:00 PST (11:00 EST). When my plane landed at 4:00, the message on my phone said network not available. I tried to get ahold of my husband (who has a 734- number but is in Atlanta) and he's been able to make calls and texts, but not receive them.
About 5 min ago, the time zone updated and a string of texts from the day came in, but I can't make calls.
My wife's BB Curve is outta service as well. Cingular ATT has always been reliable for me, since the Cell One days. This is the first major issue I have had, but is is a BIG issue! Hard to believe such a large outage can happen.
Service is a-okay here in Virginia, no problems at all. Had something like this happen on Verizon about 6 months back, where it was out for about 8 hours (that outage started around 10pm though, so it wasn't too debilitating for me personally).
No service on my iPhone in Chicago for 3+ hours. I was just up in the near suburbs and 3G was working for a while, but now that I'm back in the city...NO SERVICE
I had been getting an "emergency calls only" message all day, but now I'm getting "network busy" when i try to call my voice mail in Detroit area. maybe it's getting fixed.

As of about 10 minutes ago, text messaging seems to be working although phone calls are still not goint through.
I just turned off my phone and turned it back on and now I can text but can not receive phone calls.
Why do other at&t phones work except for iphone and new razors? boy iphone is real state of the art! So many standard features other phones have, iphone doesn't. Like a video recorder or a camera where you don't need to have surgeon steady hands to take a clear picture.
My 248 area code iPhone just got full service back after a shut-down/restart. (I'm in Ann Arbor, MI.)
This sucks im so pissed I lost service all day today and its 6:20PM here in Metro Detroit and still no freaking service , Even nextel used to handle outages better than freakin At&t.
I wonder if they will get it fixed today, att must not know how to fix it. I have been out since about 10 this morning and still have been able to receive calls. All of the att store i called said they have a network problem and they do not have an eta to when it will be fixed.

ATT is usually very reliable here in Waterford, Michigan... I have had att cell phones for about 8 years- only remember 1-2 other days like this... No Service, Wrong Time, Emergency Calls Only, and Network Busy has been the messages since around 10:30 AM

Sterling Heights, 6:25 texting is fine now, full bars but still cannot make or recieve calls, I did have voice mails pop up but I am still unable to check them, THIS IS SO ANNOYING
Visiting the Quad Cities (IA, IL) from Lawrence, KS, and I've had phone service all day. However, 3G icon was gone this AM. It then returned this afternoon, but I've been getting data service errors all day.

Ann Arbor --No service since sunday morning. I have never seen such an outage. There are businesses,ppl,hospital emergencies depend on these guys. Very frustrating
This is not right nor fair, My business depends on my phones , our costumers are frustrated , I'll charnge At&t every penny that I lost Today, and I'll make them pay and right after that Im switching companies. At&t You failed . If it wasnt the for iPhone At&t wouldve been history long time ago, BTW im selling my 2 iphones if anyone is intrested. AT&T Your History . Peace.

Just drove from Kalamazoo to port Huron along i94. Couldn't make calls on my wifes old iPhone but could on my 3g iPhone. Calls to our phones go to voicemail Edge and 3g is also very spotty along the way
No service on my 3G in Indianapolis all afternoon. Tried shutting down and taking my SIM card out and restarting....no luck. Can't text or call.
Wait I have full service as of right now...we'll see how long this lasts.
In Detroit still no service. And still no information from At&T. BS

In my 12-13 years with Cell One, Cingular and now AT&T, I've never seen anything like it before. I'll still take that track record over other carriers. out of the 3 phones in my house, one works and two don't. However, on one that doesn't have complete service, I can call or text out, can't get calls or texts in or get internet or email. Now, if it's not fixed by tomorrow am, that's a different story....

Got 5 bars and data back about an hour ago (I'm only on Edge with my 2G iPhone), but haven't been able to make or receive a call. I can text, email and surf the web. I keep re-booting hoping that'll do the trick but no joy so far.
Just got a text, 5 bars, and E .. able to access internet now. Chicago here. How long it will last I don't know.
My internet and email still says "attaching GPRS" and hangs up...
Out in Mchenry IL area, and I have had no service almost all day. Apple and AT&T people say it has to do with flooded towers, and that they don't know when they will be up and running again. Most of the problems consist of 3G iPhone owners, but the issue has affected my sister's pearl and my brother's 3G razor.
per AT&T - they state they are having issues. There are towers out in our area. If you grab one of those towers basically you're screwed until they have it fixed. They are giving a "one time credit" if you really complain.
We have been out all day. Shows 2 bars now but still can't use it. We all rebooted our phones but they still will not work. Not very happy. Tried to go online to check status and make a report but there was nowhere to do this. Borrowed a friends Verizon phone but was on hold over 10 minutes so I hung up.
Waste of money . I am planning to switch my service to other networks. Poor service from ATT. When it was cingular it was all good. I am very much disappointed with ATT

I seriously can not believe they haven't updated their website with ANY information. The PR person should be fired.

Wireless down in Milwaukee, WI. Can receive texts and make outgoing phone calls, but cannot receive incoming calls. Callers reach a message that says number is no longer in service (cannot even leave voice messages).
I just spend 500.00$ today on an iPhone and accessories. I left the store and haven't been able to use my phone all day. I haven't even been activated. I am taking the phone back and switching to Verizon. This is the worst service I've ever experienced from such a large provider.
PS I'm in Janesville, WI and there has been no service since at least noon today. It has been over 7 hours with nothing.
Have service now in Indianapolis on my 3G. Can send and receive texts, make calls, check voicemail, use internet. Not sure if I can receive calls yet.

Service in Detroit has been fully restored!!! Text has been available for the last 2 hours or so, phone service is intermittent on the incoming end....outgoing is more stable.
Maybe that's not "fully restored" but you get the idea... lol
