App Store: 20,000 iPhone Apps in Seven Months

Apple released the iTunes App Store on July 11, 2008. Now, 7 months later TUAW reports they've hit 20,000 apps. For those tracking the darn-near-exponential growth at home, it took 5 month to hit 10,000, so they've doubled again in less than half the time. Scary.
With Windows Mobile still in stasis, Android only sound and fury thus far, the Pre still pre-mature, and BlackBerry blocked by its small on-board memory, is there anything on the horizon that can slow this juggernaut down? (Aside from developer complaints and infinite fart apps, of course).
And how many of those 20,000 apps have you downloaded already? None? Nine screens full? All of them?! Let us know!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we already gone over this like 3 days ago. Check page two or three of this blog. Tough economy's forcing us to recycle stories now?
I want an app that will allow me to hide 19,999 of these apps in my iPhone's App Store app so I don't have to scroll through them.
And to think all this with a 97% hogwash rate.
@Jon
I always argued for stronger Apple approval process, but hey thats what we get when Apple try to say no to an app. Everyone starts screaming as if their liberty was threated!!!
To add another point of view here, how do legitimate apps that people want but know they exist rise above the noise and make themselves known? Apple's popularity rating is based on downloads and reviews, but how do developers who sweated it out and built something worthwhile get word out?
And still no comprehensive PIM or Office Package but plenty of utilities to tell you if you're level, allow you to annoy teenagers, and make a variety of body sounds.
@Bill:
I have many apps but only use about 8 of them on a regular basis. It's kind of like satellite. We pay for hundreds of channels but only watch a handful. If only there was a company out there that would let you pay only for the channels you regularly watch... I guess the app store is the only media outlet that is pay-per-...app.
I agree with Stveve,hide all apps
Too much junk. It's putting me off the AppStore, bought one too many bad apps - now enabled restriction to block it from casual use LOL.
but the half is not anything useful.
Will gladly help entrepreneurs with ideas come up with another 20.000 apps
We developed popular app in the AppStore
