Can i please ask a question. I have 3G running on 2.2.1 with 02.30.03 firmware. I want to update to 3.0 so that i am able to unlock it. I am in a country with almost no interent connection. I got a hold of the 3.0 OS and the new itunes on a CD. Now my question is will I be able to use iTunes to with the 3.0 OS I already have on a CD? If so how do i do it? And after updating to 3.0 what else do i have to do with keeping in mind that i do not have interent? Please someone help me.

Hi,

I'm a member of ADC and the iPhone Dev Program so I can put it on my phone, however I'm running O2 pay as you go on the first generation iPhone so I have to activate/unlock it. Luckily, I haven't had to perform any jailbreaks/pwnages/unlocks for a while as the baseband hasn't been on it.

However, I'd like to know if it can be confirmed whether any future 3.0 betas will have protection against this or whether there will be any baseband updates where I have to wait for a new unlock. I'd like to know so that I can decide whether to apply the new update.

By the way, is it a simple update or would I have to restore to install it?

PS. The dev team is still relevant, thanks to them, people don't have to be on official carriers or pay for expensive contracts. We can also install useful programs such as cycorder, however I dislike repeatedly moddig my iPhone as I lose saved game progress unless I use quickpwn, plus I prefer my home screens to not be cluttered by jailbroken items, so I simply have an unlock/activation which has persisted for many revisions without the need to be update via pwnage

iPhone Dev Team is relevant. Thanks to them. I can use my iPhone anywhere in the world with different SIM cards, i am free to use apps which are not allowed by apple or the operators. Go ahead Devteam - be happy to see your next releases

I love the fact that, with my jailbroken iPhone, I can send MMS messages, record video, change the background of the home screen, have quick acces to controls such as brightness and SSH without needing to exit the app I am currently using AND cut and paste. Features that are common on most other phones but for some reason or the other, weren't included until now (well, summer but you get the point). All except SSH for obvious reasons.

I won't argue with you about Jailbreaking vs. non-jailbreaking. But I have to disagree with you on one point...

This a place for people to post their opinions. I haven't criticized you or anyone else for jailbreaking, I criticized the content I've seen available with it. To say what anyone "should" or "shouldn't" do with their eyes is saying that they shouldn't have their own opinions. I wasn't aware this was a "jailbreakers only" thread.

Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean you should be rolling your eyes at it. Depends on your level of comfort. Opening up ssh access, installing a text editor plus Ruby/Perl/etc., and some of the dedicated tools like Erica's cmd line utilities opens up the iPhone to do all sorts of cool lightweight development.

I'm an iPhone registered developer and am totally comfortable writing official ObjC apps (and psyched about the all the new 3.0 APIs). But sometimes for a one-off personal solution it's just a lot easier to throw together some scripts and call it done.

I ignore the ghetto-looking backgrounds, etc. too. In fact, Cydia is slow, ugly, and I hate it. But I love having full access to my iPhone.

@frog, you don´t know nothing about what you´re talking...i will still jailbreak for:

video recording SBSsettings (swipe finger on top to acess wifi, bt, 3g toggles) Intelliscreen (calendar, rss, weather, etc, all showed on the lockscreen) etc

I thought devs have only access to thr 3.0 SDK not the actual firmware. If they have access to the firmware then it would be leaked to the public

frog, iPhone Dev Team lets us have total control of our devices, piracy is only a side effect of this. Things like 5 row keyboard, WinterBoard (to use themes and change the lame face SpringBoard has), SBSettings and many other important apps are only made possible through the jailbreak process, which is totally different from unlock and piracy.
