DIRECTV Announces iPhone App: Search, Browse, Get Info, Record, Program PPV
DIRECTV for the iPhone is now live in the iTunes App Store. Features include:
- Search for any television show up to 14 days in advance
- Browse programs by channel or date & time
- Get program information instantly, including description, length and rating
- Record a single episode or an entire series
- Program Pay Per View movies to be recorded and ready to watch anytime
- Record to any DIRECTV DVR in your home

Dishnetwork has had there’s out for a long. Time it’s call sling guide. Form sling box it’s a web app. Go to sling media to get it with dvr control too
Makes me kind of want direct TV. I guess what the at&t CEO was saying about ‘ having your iphone connected to your tv ‘ is coming true. IIRC, at&t and DirecTV have some kind of contract together where at&t customers can get DirecTV for a discounted price. This is cool none the less.
They should have new boxes with BT where you can actually control the TV with your iPhone. However, with how quickly the battery drains, I wouldn’t think that would be a great thing to do ( yet ! ).
The app is not available in the Apps Store.

It’s works and looks pretty smooth. A great improvement over the mobile web app version that had no browsing incorporated. If you have directv I recommend getting it, I mean why not.
waiting for Comcast to grow into the new century. Why are they the last to always get this cool stuff? I want the same app for my comcast DVR.

Its a massive GUI improvment. I used to go to m.directv.com to program the DVR, but didn’t have channel control. I like how when you browse channels, you can filter by channels you ACTUALLY SUBSCRIBE TO! And you can filter the porn crap.
Great app. I love DirecTv. I got a heavy discount being a Best Buy employee.
Great app. I agree with others that it is a big improvement over m.directv.com. However, it sure seems to crash a lot. And I mean a LOT! Hope they can get it more stable.

I feel you I want it for my comcast DVR and icebox my DVR acts crazy to I thought it was just happening to me.
My initial impression is WOW!!! Searching for a show is infinitely easier with this app than it was with m.directv.com. The family is constantly remembering a show they wanted to see while we are out. Now it won’t be anywhere near the hassle it was to set it recording.
I love how it also gives a summary of the episode so you can determine if it is one you’ve seen before setting it to record.
Great job DirecTV. You are constantly reaffirming my decision to pick you over cable.
Great app with a classy user interface! The search function is much easier to use than the actual DVR box (actor, director, keyword, category search all in one!) Plus, the recordings seemed to show up in my queue much faster than on the website. Thus, this has essentially replaced my remote when it comes to recording. Huge improvement over m.directtv.com I have yet to experience a crash – are apps run on the ipod touch generally less crash prone than those on the iPhone?
Wish I had the right exposure for Sat to come back to DirecTV. I H-A-T-E Comcast.
they just need to allow u to remotely control ur dvr so u don’t over ride other shows or allow you to record past the time for sports too. that is the only thing they are missing.

Really like this app. I was JUST the other day saying, “man I wish I would have known this show was on, I’d set it to record.” My wife said, “they probably have it for your stupid phone that doesn’t leave your hand…” AND BAM, she was right! I really need to put the thing down sometime…
I have the app and directv but there not synching up do I have to change the settings or something?
