I’ve actually had the thought that maybe Google hasn’t turned on push email for for the iPhone, cause they are working on an App for 3.0 that could run in the background. That seems logical right?

I gave up on google, and went for MobileMe. A seperate app would do nothing to win me back. Fix all the bugs, and then make Gmail push via exchange – and I’ll consider it.

I would love to see both IMAP Idle push to the builtin Mail app, although I could live with mail pushed by Exchange ActiveSync.

While I’m not onboard with the general push for a unified inbox – I like keeping my mail accounts rigidly separated – I would be annoyed to have to open a seperate APP. Just give me push, please!

Yeah, if I have a conversation going with somebody during the day, it can reach 50 to 60 e-mails going back and forth. I HAVE to make sure that it is archived before I use the iPhone mail client, otherwise I have a mailbox full of one or two sentence replies that are old news. Keeping conversations together is KEY!

A native app is the only way to take full advantage of all of what gmail has to offer (conversation style, labels, assorted stars, etc…), as well as it’s potential (push, lab fun). It is inevitable. Without it, new gmail using iPhoners can’t be relied on to fully transform into full-fledged gmailers growing to rely on that which makes gmail different. It’s a no-brainer.

It would be interesting to see if Apple would allow Google to create such an app, since they banned a small developer from releasing MailWrangler from the App Store last summer for being too close to Mail. (According to its author, MailWranger was just a multiple-account wrapper around Safari.)

I can’t see the point of a seperate app at this point. It’s bad enough that the mail accounts aren’t consilidated, just imagine having to open seperate apps for each one.

I use the Google app for iPhone all the time! Like fassy does, gmail is my primary email on my iPhone; the Reader implementation is also very good. Why would I want ANOTHER gmail for the iPhone?

I forward a dozen e-mail address to 1 main gmail account. I wish the iphone would group my e-mails together the way gmail does in safari.

I use gmail as my primary email on my iphone, and I vastly prefer the gmail iphone webapp to Mail. In a word — conversations. Mail has nothing to support that manner of automatic organization and display. I would love a dedicated gmail app that supports labels and conversations properly.
