You should be able to use itunes and select restore. It should take you back to the original firmware. Unless you have the 3g-s, the factory is 3.0 i think.

My phone is already unlocked by the Telco. But I still want to jailbreak to use the following applications: - Backgrounder for multitasking. Can't go without this. - VOIP over 3G - PwnPlayer, to be able to play music which I download directly to my phone without going through iTune. - SBSetting, to be able to quickly turn on/off 3G,bluetooth,location service,phone, wifi, and to enable/prevent rotation. In addition, to hide/unhide icons and to customise my task bar (such as showing numeric battery level, show date, show available memory). - Use iFile in order to rename and managed files. - Winterboard for themes, making the device interesting everyday. - MxTude to save youtube videos.

I don't care about pirating software. I think the prices of most paid software are reasonable enough so I don't mind paying for them at all.

I have a question. I had the iphone 3g before and had it jailbroken, which i loved. Being able to customize the way my phone looked was awesome!!! I had to sell it do to financial reasons. But i am going to get it again in about a week most likely, especially since its $99. If i upgrade with the 3.0 OS, can i still jailbreak it? I know they said not to until they work on it, but i dont use the apps from cydia, i just want to be able to customize my phone. Is that still possible, or what that cause problems?? Thanks.

I use VOIP over the 3G network. Another cool feature of freedom in Jailbreaking. I pay Internet service with a carrier therefore I should have freedom in what I want to do with it.

it does void your warranty if you somehow brick your iphone, but if you dont know what your doing and you install an app from cydia that messes up the phone, what you usually have to do is force restore the phone back to the original software. if you do this, apple or at&t WONT KNOW your phone has been jailbroken. Its impossible to tell once fully restored. You also must restore and set up as a new iphone to totally erase some of the setting that may still be stored in your backup of a jailbroken iphone. Please do some research. its not helping at all when a noob tells another noob something wrong, and then that noob tells another noob and so on and so on.

@Ren Car. Apple knows that you have Jailbroken your phone and it voids the warranty. Apple will only work on legit phones with AT&T. If your phone is bricked because of the modifications, then you will have to buy a new phone. The bright side is that you'll have an expensive paperweight if something goes wrong. Good luck!

I jailbreak only to gain access to the OS. --- because I can --- I like having total control over my devices, writing scripts, etc. Never for piracy. It is really nice to be able to ssh to and fro when jailbroken.

I have a 3G Iphone, and I'm not really familiar with this jailbreaking stuff. What are the advantages of jailbreaking your Iphone? Also, would Apple recognize the warranty on a jailbroken Iphone? Please advise.

I still don't understand why you would necessarily need to jailbreak = apply a hack on the OS level to unlock = apply a hack on the baseband level.

But then again, I don't really care as two months I will be able to get my 3G unlocked by my operator for around $30. That, and hopefully a new generation iPhone arriving in my pocket at about the same time, makes the whole debacle more or less academic.

I will keep jailbreaking for all the extra features I gain thru sbsettings like quick brightness control for example. Intelliborn has added a bunch of cool apps thru their installer ROCK too. So much out their to list. Latest great is Backgrounder to run apps in the background. Latest update interface has made Very stable. You can revert back to old interface if you want.

Obviously u guys have not heard of winterboard. Being able to fully customize how my iPhone looks is more then enough to continue to jailbreak. Having the old boring same icons as every other iPhone is not appeling to me. Plus it's always fun to know ur doing something you shouldn't be doing

Jailbreak is very usefull not only to sbs settings but also for themeing or mms that a 2g iphone wont let u or to gove u usefull tols apple doesnt give u

You, my friend, are a moron. One of the main reasons why a person might jailbreak is to unlock the phone to use on another carrier. So when someone hears that 3.0 is jailbreakable, that person may think it's time to upgrade. But, it's quite possible that the iPhone 3G running 3.0 (or higher) will never be unlockable, or it could take months before an unlock is available. That's why Jeremy said unlockers should avoid 3.0 until the Dev Team provides them with a "safe jailbreak path." Thats what he meant.

Jailbreaking does not necessarily equal piracy!! I jailbreak, primarily for sbsettings, but I'm not a pirate!! SBsettings will be the only thing I would jailbreak for after 3.0 comes out. Saying that jailbreaking is equal to piracy is like saying that you illegally rip movies because your computer has a DVD burner. It's just not true. Some people do use it for that but they do not represent all of the jailbreakers. Some people jailbreak simply because it allows for an unlock. Not everyone even uses the jailbreak apps. Check your facts please before posting on this wall.

Please...

Jailbreak and Unlock are not related. We already know that 3.0 on a 3g will be jailbreakable. We still don't know if the baseband that goes together with 3.0 will ever be unlockable though. But that has absolutely no connection at all with the jailbreakability. You can jailbreak to your heart's content, using a safe or unsafe path - you are still not any closer to an unlock.
