Engadget‘s reporting that we won’t see just two new iPhones, not just three, but a whopping four next-generation iPhones coming soon!

we’re hearing from a trusted source that new iPhones in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities just garnered approval by the PCS Type Review Certification Board, the standards body responsible for certificating handsets for use with some carriers (AT&T, for instance).

Only a week remains before WWDC 2009, so we’re deep behind crazy lines here, people, and anything is possible. But four new models? What about the CDMA version for China? The iPhone nano and iTablet for Verizon? The flying model that oinks?

We’ll find out next Monday!

iPhone-Dev Team to Potential Jailbreakers: Do Not Install iTunes 8.2
  1. Big Willie says:

    They should just forget about the 4GB iPhone. That’s so… retro!

  2. MCSwan says:

    So, what price points are we talking about here? Starting at $99 and a hundred bucks a jump?

  3. Evilhomer says:

    A 4 gig though might fit the bill for a “free with contract” kind of phone. Or better yet, a lower cost “pay as you go” phone.

  4. theo says:

    @MCSwan

    That would put the 32gig model at $399. I highly doubt that apple would go back to that high of a price, but I guess anything is possible.

  5. Mike says:

    @MCSwan I hope not, i thought the 16gb was going to go for $199 and the 32gb for $299, thats as high as ill go, i cant see myself paying $400 for a 32gb.

  6. MattyFresh says:

    Why in the world would u want a 4 gig iphone iam so lost on that one i dam near fill my 8 gig

  7. icebike says:

    @Matty:

    Some of us can actually make it thru a whole day without having our entire music collection in our pocket.

    My 16Gig phone reports its Capacity as 14.6gig (after system space requirements etc) and of that 11.9 gig is Free, so I use 2.7gig.

    I’ve got every piece of music I care about on there, a couple TV episodes and lots of books and pictures.

    If your use of the phone is for, well, a PHONE, and maybe web surfing and email, 4 gig is easily doable.

  8. icebike says:

    @Evilhomer: See immediately above. 4Gig would be fine for people do not live 24/7 with earbuds in their ears.

  9. iDutch says:

    They all have a front camera too (as per BGR’s website)

  10. Matt Hall says:

    With simplify media and orb size really doesn’t matter. I have my whole iTunes library plus all my flac music at the tips of my fingers at all times.

  11. Tyler says:

    Why would Apple take a step backward in storage capacity? Seems like a bad move.

  12. MattyFresh says:

    i love ice who says ooo its easy to have a 4 gig except he has a 16 gig intresting so he just spent money even though he didnt have too

  13. inspector gadget says:

    U r all fools. Open ur eyes guys. OMNIA HD and NOKIA N97 wil be on sale this June. Forget ur IPHONE (garbage). APPLE is just sucking ur hard earned money. They give u a little bit of upgrades from time to time so they can release dame old hardware with little functionality on it. Enough is enough. Time to jump ship.

  14. inspector gadget says:

    or better yet XPERIA IDOU or TOSHIBA TG01 Or wait for Nokia N900 (phone/tablet). Apple will give u MMS, BT etc.. on 3.0 bullshit. It should have come on the first gen Iphone but Apple knows how t play the game to suck ur money. Amen.

  15. inspector gadget says:

    how about HTC TOUCH PRO 2. All these phones will eat Iphone ALIVE and IMEAN IT.

  16. iPaladin says:

    Fanboy, have you ever tried using these phones and compared them to the iPhone? How about comparing the interfaces of these phones to the iPhone? Oh wait, they can’t compare.

    Who cares if those phones have 900 more features if they don’t work (and in most cases, they don’t.) Go to Computer Engineering 101 and try to have a clue of what you’re talking about next time.

  17. inspector gadget says:

    BTW, PRE is 100 times better than ur beloved IPHONE S**T. Ur phone sucks. It lags the competition.

  18. inspector gadget says:

    Oh ur just sorry u cant have these superb gadgets cause ur stock on ur 2 year contract ha. Pay ur ETF and get one these intelligent phone and i will assure u that u wont regret it. before its too late. U dont want to be a laughing stock do you.

  19. inspector gadget says:

    I have a 16 gb Iphone but ill just put in a garbage and get one of the best SP available this month. Learned my lesson buying a lemon APPLE.

  20. inspector gadget says:

    @ipaladin Do you know what Computer Engineering means. I guess not. People at Apple did not do a good job engineering this lemon phone. Their R/D lacks the vision of what is to be expected ahead of times. Well u might get a new hardware with 5 mp and Amoled display sometime next year. Just hang around. GOOD LUCK.

  21. Chobbs says:

    just got off the 9to5mac site and they’re reporting the 4 gig phone has iChat in Canada. Does that sound forward thinking enough?

    I have had many phones. And I must say… The IPohne has been the absolute hands down winner best! So as fare as I am concerned I need not jump ship I am happy right where I am.

  22. TosaDeac says:

    Do you feel better now after getting that off your chest? I know we all appreciated it.

    I read on other sites that maybe the different memory sizes don’t mean all the SAME phone in these different capacities….perhaps it could mean an iPhone Nano in the 4GB and 8GB? Either way a cheaper up front option might be nice for some people that don’t need a lot of memory, but like the idea of the iPhone’s other features. Bundle that with the possible capped data options that have been rumored and this truly becomes an option for just about anyone that has a cell phone (other than people that hate on it just because Apple makes it I guess).

  23. inspector gadget says:

    Well, Im happy for some of you guys. After more than two long years, you finally have your MMS, LANDSCAPE, 3.2 mp, 35,000 Fart/to do list apps, etc.. THANK YOU APPLE. but wait, all phones comong out this month has 8/12 mp and HD VIDEO. Am I missing something here. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

  24. theo says:

    @inspector gadget

    And I assume you know everything about apple and what their plans are for the future? Right. Of course you do. Because producing and developing the most successful smartphone ever, plus simultaneously merging business power and pleasure, just isn’t forward thinking enough. Unlike your nokia, who are just coming out with a barely comparable device like ummm how do you say TWO AND A HALF years later. Yeah. That’s forward thinking. You obviously know what you’re talking about. And if you hate the iPhone so much why do you go to iPhone blogs and act like the millions of members of the iPhone community are wrong. Take a hike. I have no patience for people like you. I mean seriously. Seven posts all saying how stupid the iPhone is on an iPhone site. Genius. You are so smart. I’m sure we’re all offended and converted to you’re anti iPhone ways. Congratulations

  25. icebike says:

    @MattyFlash:

    i love ice who says ooo its easy to have a 4 gig except he has a 16 gig intresting so he just spent money even though he didnt have too

    You are exactly right.

    When I go the phone I had no concept of how much 16gig would hold, other than it would hold way more than my current music collection.

    I overbought. I admit it.

    I was buying with the future in mind, but at my present rate of consumption (2.7 gig in ~ 8 months) I could easily expect to get 3 or 4 years out of a 8gig phone.

    With a little garbage-management, I could live in a 4 gig phone.

    Just sayin.

    Not suggesting it would work for you or anyone really into having music all the time. I went thru that phase too when I was younger.

  26. Darrell says:

    Thank you Theo. Saved me some typing on my iPhone. Which is just a terrible. I can’t stand typing on this non physical keyboard with spell correction.

  27. mystic says:

    @inspector gadget

    How’s the ulcer coming along?

  28. RudyJack says:

    inspector G, get a life and if you hate iPhones so much, then why hell are you in this site. Go back to T-Mobile or where ever you crawled out from under and keep your amaginary and unless comments to yourself. It’s evident you have no idea what you’re talking about, or maybe you just had a bad experience with your iphone.

  29. Chobbs says:

    Ok enough ranting and raving! I am too excited about the possiblity of IChat to worry about some dude that is obviously upset for having bought something he didn’t want. Which, btw, he kept for “two long years”

    Sorry had to take at least a small dig.

    Anyway. Is the iChat rumor even possible? Would it only be available with other iphone e users? Could it perhaps be used for the computer IChat too???

    I can barely contain my excitement! I will definately be standing in line!!!

  30. Jason says:

    @theo @Darrell @RubyJack

    Please don’t feed the trolls. He is baiting you, and you take the bait. If you ignore them and refrain from fanning the flames, they will go away.

  31. D says:

    @rene ritchie certificating? Really? I know it was a quote but you can’t take artistic liscense and substitute certifying?

  32. Rene Ritchie says:

    @D if Joss Whedon used it, you’d be okay with it though, right? :)

  33. PHug says:

    It’s going to really suck if there is no new iPhone announcement @ WWDC.

    iPhone is the only Apple product I care about.

  34. Noob says:

    So. .. Is there no physical changes to the new iphone at all??? Wish its made of rubber instead of plastic. I wud be happy even if it slips off my hand, unlike screamin nooo everytime i drop it.

  35. iPaladin says:

    @inspectorgadget You don’t know to spell, that’s obvious. I’m sorry your mommy couldn’t buy you one. P.S. All the cool trolls diss AT&T, I guess you didn’t get that memo.

  36. Brunul says:

    @Inspector Gadget:

    How old are you? 12, 13?

    A 4GB iPhone at $99, why not. I just can’t wait for OS 3.0. W00t!!!

  37. inspector gadget says:

    Hmn..Let me see. OS 3.0 for what? ah to support a 4gb Phone and its F@RT, To Do apps oh and its 3.2 mp camera with a lots of BUG..ha ha ha ha.

  38. K says:

    @ inspector gadget

    If you hate your 16 gig 3g so much can I have it. I could always use a back up. 

  39. SpiceRak2 says:

    @inspector

    Knock it off. If you have constructive criticism to offer, your posts are welcome. You don’t have to be a Fanboi to post. However, bear in mind that the individuals that share their opinions on this site are mature, respectful and open-minded.

    Whatever it is that you mean to accomplish has no value here. You look foolish. Give it a rest.

  40. Truth says:

    There won’t be an Iphone Nano. Leave the rumor alone. Not happening. What you will be able to buy is an Iphone with Nano memory.

    Pricing:

    4GB $99 8GB $199 16GB $299 32GB $399

    More Apple piss.

  41. Truth says:

    LMAO @Theo

    “plus simultaneously merging business power and pleasure..”

    Business power? Are you serious. What business power? A simple calendar app, a sorry notifications system? The ability to run 1 app at a time? Being able to download emails from Yahoo, AOL, and Microsoft? Exchange (LOL)? The able to type on a non feedback touch screen. A crapfest camera? Copy and paste? Office?

    Yeah Business Power.

  42. Simon says:

    I guess if the 4GB model is $0 on a contract, it’s not that bad. I have a 16GB iphone 3g and use all the memory for media, but there are lots of people that only use the phone for the phone. This would be beneficial for them.

  43. Davis says:

    I guess Truth and Inspector must live in the same house, i feel sorry for both of them!

  44. Sorry for the huge comment but I wanted to put in my $0.02 . Firstly, great original post; usually, I don’t feel inspired to write on a blog unless there’s something that stands out to me to do so. A little bit of backgrond I work in wealth management in a boutique firm. Here is my story: When I first turned 21, I started trading from a few scraps of pages of the “Intelligent Investor.” Of course, like any kid, I started investing in online investopedia before that. I first tried my hand in investing in financial derivatives like futures/swaps etc. but lost a lot of money unfortunately. After that, I became more substantially more knowledgeable with my money – I read from an article that Delos Chang wrote about the psychology of investors and the Wall Street Journal daily and began investing my money into mutual index funds from the S&P 500. Of course, this was after the Internet Stock Bubble took place and all the drug scandals in Mexico (I had a lot of currency in pesos before they pegged it to the dollar). But in terms of the systemic risk, I wanted to diversify and make a surefire return in the long run. I’d say that in terms of wealth management , you won’t get rich with the S&P 500 mutual index funds but you will at least hedge against some sure loss by day trading unless you’re an informational trader (which few of us are!). But I’m sure you can learn this from any finance class!
