I hate Apple. Love the phone, but Apples predatory marketing practices and lack of support are awful. I logged onto itunes, it said to download the new version, now the phone won’t work, says emergency calls only. This is the 4th iphone (breathing on them seems to be enough to destroy the phone, this one cost $600 even though I was only replacing my same phone and a few weeks later, they came out with a new phone. Thanks for telling me when I was paying $600 that a new phone was imminent. This is the 4th time that downloading itunes crashed my phone.

Hi have updated my iphone to the 3.0 software. Now i cant seem to sync my music onto my iphone . it seems to copy all the music and then when it syncs it it straight away comes up with a message saying “The iPhone (username) could not be synced. An unknown error occurred (13001)” . HAVE tried everything from restoring to removing music from sync then putting it back on . plz somebody help its so annoying. thankx

I am up all night trying to fix this problem. I updated my iphone last night to 3.0 and I waited for 4 hours to finish and I came back everything was running smoothly until it finished and all I can see in my phone was emergency call only but I can receive calls the odd part is on my desktop it says that I need to unlock my phone and the sim is not compatible for my phone. is there any can help me coz I’ve been up for 24 hrs fixing this problem

I bought a new i-phone on Thursday and updated it to 3.0. Now it’s stuck in emergency calls only. On my PC screen I get a message to unlock the phone first, but I can’t get to the unlock pad. I’ve tried unplugging and plugging the U&SB cable in and I’ve tried resetting the phone, by holding the front button and the on/off button till the apple symbol appeared. I also tried shutting it off and removing and replacing the SIM. Looks like I might have to go to the store where I bought it. Any other suggestions before I do?

Well its 14:19 on Fri 19th June here in England, 44 hours after going live and I still cannot get 3.0 downloaded! I still get the ‘timed out’ message. I’ve tried many, many, many times and nothing. I’ve tried at different times during the day and night and still the message comes up. My mate downloaded his an hour after the golive time and his went through 1st time in 20 minutes, so how can some go through so easily and why is mine, struggling? I hate Apple!

I have been trying to download the OS 3.0 update for 10 HOURS now and after it gets to about 30% I get a network timeout message and it goes back to 0kb. It takes about 3 hours just to get to 30% then I get the error message. I must have restarted it about 20 times now. What am I doing wrong and how come some people are able to download and install the whole thing in about 30 minutes?? I have tried holding down home/power button and resetting, restarting pc/itunes etc but it keeps happening….

Whew! I downloaded this morning with no problem and then iTunes gave me the activation error! Phone came up with the “emergency only” thing and I thought, uh-oh. But unplugging the USB then plugging it back in solved the problem. Now currently using some of the new features but overall I’d say that performance is faster than before in email and other apps.

i had the golden master copy i restored to the official apple update and the phone actually does seem to run a bit smoother although the codes and numbers do seem to be the same but it does seem smoother just waiting for the jailbreak now (bouncing of the walls lol)

WHEW!! I was worried. I hit the upgrade button at 23:43 Chicago time and at 00:10 iTunes stated update complete and that the iPhone was restarting. Once it came back on it would be in iTunes. Well something happened and iTunes timed out. My iPhone was plugged in but not showing up on iTunes. I unplugged the USB and re-plugged in multiple times with no luck. I restarted my eMac and then plugged in the USB again and music to my ears the iPhone came to life and all was good by 00:29. Good Luck and have fun ALL.

hi guys if you have error 13019 you have to do this

go to music section make sure the first one is unclicked, after you do this go to the summary menu on your iphone, click on apply/sinc after you do this let it load and then go back to the music click and sync music, and then click apply/sinc and it will work.

I got the same message. cannot be synced. an unknown error occured (13019)

Watched as it was syncing and noticed it died when trying to sync music. I unchecked my "selelcted playlist" and synced again. No problems. Then selected the play list. It told me it could not find some music in the locations it thought it was in. I expected that but then I was able to sync with no problems.

I Kept On Waking Up In The Middle Of The Night.I Woke Up 3 Times.Checking & Checking For 3.0.But No Luck. Just a note for Canadians. Although the message says you should contact Rogers, you can just press ok and proceed with tethering. It seems to be working fine. I actually haven’t had a chance to test it out yet – I plugged my phone in and it went to backup instantly. I’m still waiting for it to finish, but once it’s done I’m going to try to tether my computer to the Rogers network.

It took me 20 minutes (@ 5:20 approx.) It went perfect… I didn’t have any issues (let’s say “haven’t had”). If you’re using Skype, it won’t work with 3.0 -so far-. iTunes apparently is overwhelmed by the massive downloads because I can’t access the store. Anyone else experiencing this?

@RsB - Ya, maybe now I will use more than 300Mb per month!!!! I still can't get MMS to go, though.

A client of mine was eyeing one of those USB sticks to allow Internet access for his laptop. The stick is free, but it costs $30 per month for only 500Mb! I told him to pick a $99 iPhone and the 6Gb data plan, now that tethering is allowed. Then he would also have a phone, and could surf the net without his laptop. Gotta now show him how much better it would be!

I apologize! For kicks I thought I would turn the tethering on again, AND IT WORKED AGAIN! To test it, I disabled my network card on my computer and turned off the iPhone’s WIFI. I’m posting this message from my computer through the Fido’s 3G! The top of the iPhone display turns blue and pulses “Internet Tethering”. My connection speed says 500.0 Kbps and my IP is 192.168.20.2.

@RsB – The Fido update went from 4.0 to 4.1. I think it disabled the tethering, cause it worked for me with 4.0, but now is not. MMS is also not working with Fido (for me at least). Maybe Carl is right and all will be good on Friday!

Fido update #2 – Just plugged in the phone again and got the carrier update message. iTunes can also now retrieve my phone settings! Just syncing and will try MMS again …. waiting …. waiting …. backup taking a long time …. waiting …. backup taking longer than the update …. Finally! Nope, MMS still not working with Fido. Guess I have to call them. BUT, I did notice that it will sync more than one calendar from Outlook and it syncs Notes! Maybe this is an iTunes 8.2 thing, but I never noticed before. Multiple calendars is GREAT!

For those asking about push and MMS:

Push: The menu for Push will not show up in your settings menu until you install an app that has push with it.

MMS: This will not be enabled if your carrier hasn't enabled it. Contact them for assistance.

Tethering: For you Rogers/Fido folk in Canada, I talked to someone at Fido today telling me they can't activate it till Friday when the iPhone 3G S is shipped.

I don't know the situation for any US companies.

Nice undocumented feature – if you move an icon from screen to screen, you can now slide and hold the icon against the edge and each available screen will flip past until you let go. Before you had to release and slide the icon at each screen. Nice time saver!

There's a backlog of apps waiting for updates - that's when we'll see (a) apps fixing incompatibility problems, and I reckon (b) apps using push notification. I've got both Tweetie and Twitterrific installed to see which one gets a push-related update first.

Oh, and before anyone asks, WiFi Trak doesn't work under OS 3.0 but the developer has an update already in the approval process with Apple.

Heh, I’m tethering right now There are just two things that I can’t figure out yet: 1) There is no “Notifications” section in the Settings, even though I have updated version of Tap Tap Revenge which theoretically should support it. 2) I have a wireless access point here which requires me to authenticate, but for some reason the Auto-Join option is not available. Anyone knows what might be causing these?

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I downloaded 3.0 at 10:03. It took only one try – finished completely with install about 40 mins. No problems found yet.

Regarding push: It’s the first day people…Not all apps support push just yet. If you want to see push activated, download something that supports it, like Tap Tap Revenge (free) and push will start on your phone. It will be seen under the settings. There are only about six apps so far – Tap Tap Revenge, AP News, AIM, B-Day Reminder, Voice4mail, & IM+

For those who have downloaded the update but cannot install due to a crashed activation server:

Plug in your iphone and wait for itunes to open.
Open Network Connections thru control panel, or however you enable and disable your internet connection…
Click the “Update” button in itunes.
BEFORE it gets to the point where it attempts to contact the activation server, DISABLE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION!
The update goes thru. You can enable your internet once the software begins to install on your phone.

Ok this must be a fix..... So here is the change.

In 2.0 you could put your phone in airplane mode and still activate WIFI separately. Thus your phone services were off but it could still connect to WIFI. This is useful for me because of all the interference noise I get from my Iphone on our baby monitor. I could shut down phone part but still use WIFI without the interference. Now however you set airplane mode. Turn back on WIFI separately it appears to connect get little WIFI icon but as soon as you leave the settings screen the WIFI icon goes away and it disconnects. I consider this a bug not a feature.... how about you.

I was trying to get through to the activation server for two hours, just checking every 10 minutes or so. I tried Tribal’s technique of trying over and over very quickly and after the fourth try, I got in!! Try that if you are having activation issues!!

It will copy photos, ringtones, etc, but at some point says that iTunes could not sync “Error 13019″. Now my playlists on the phone are wiped out, oddly enough the music is there, but it doesnt show up on the phone. If I connect it to iTunes, it shows the music and the playlists as being there. Anyone else run into this?

Same as 209, there is no anti-phishing tab in Safari. All the rest is working perfectly!!!!

I downloaded the new OS but I keep getting an error that the activation servers are down. I’ve been getting this for two hours while other people I know are having no problems. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Okay. so “iPhone activation server is temporarily unavailable” The good news is the the server snit -DOWN- its just flooded of course. if you keep hitting the update over.. and over.. and over.. you’ll likely get through.. i was just having this problem and after then 20th or so ERROR its now finally updating hope this helps!

I updated my iphone 3g to 3.0. How come there is no camera icon next to the text box for sending picture messages like there is in the walkthrough images?
