Having Problems with iPhone 3.0?

problems iPhone 3.0

If you're anything like us, the moment iPhone 3.0 hit iTunes, you hit the update button. For many, it was smooth sailing from that point on. For others...?

Not so much. We're hearing about several issues, from disconnecting Wi-Fi in 2nd Gen iPod touches (hello BT radio!) to missing apps, to sync issues, to push problems, to seach nulls, to my own little bizarre issue:

All my media is fine on my iPhone, but when I plug it in to iTunes, it's read as gigabytes of "other" data and I get a helpful message saying my iPhone is already full.

Of course, the nu-cu-lar option is always a clean restore, but if you want to troubleshoot first, check out TiPb's iPhone Forums. Our users are among the smartest in iPhone -- and iPod touch --space, and with our cracker-jack mod team in place, we can all help each other to... help each other.

Update: O2 to Start Selling iPhone 3G S at 9:02am? Preparing for Sell Out?

Quick App: BeeJiveIM 3.0 for iPhone with Push Notification
  1. iPhoneAddict says:

The only problem I have had so far w/my 3.0 update is the lag when scrolling thru homescreens when looking for an App other than that I'm good to go.

  2. ematts says:

Major problems with sending AOL email. Called Apple and turned off "smtp.aol.com" server and used AT&T server.

Many others had the same problem.

  3. sting7k says:

Mine also seems fine. Only issue I had was while installing 3.0, after really. It said it was done and that my iPhone was restarting and would appear in iTunes after that. After it connected again iTunes said it couldn't read the SIM card and I should go to an AT&T store to get a new SIM. I just diconnected the iPhone and plugged it back in, after a few minutes it verified and activated fine. All seems fine.

  4. Chris Burgess says:

The sole issue I had was after the update the phone wouldn't pick up the cell network signal and nothing seemed to fix it (reset network settings, remove/reseat SIM card, power cycling, etc). Ultimately I bit the bullet and went from scratch. Thankfully it's mostly pain-free to do so, just time-consuming replacing all the media.

  5. I am having an issue with Safari on iPhone 3.0 - when you go to a web site that uses or relies upon drop down menus you can no longer use them. It used to be one tap would drop the menu down and then a second tap on the header would follow the header. Essentially the first tap was a "mouse over". Now once you touch a drop down menu header it immediately follows that link - you will usually see the menu drop down a split second before Safari begins navigating away essentially making many popular websites almost un-usable.

This really hits home for my company as we use the iPhone on the go to access our enterprise business systems that make extensive use of drop-down menus. Please, Apple - Fix this feature in Safari!

  6. Neal says:

I have exactly the problem shown in the image, about 5 GB of orange "other" content. This is phantom content that does not really exist on my phone.

  7. Nabil says:

As far as the orange "other" content, I have also had that problem. Sometimes, syncing a single song will fix the index that your iTunes is using to report usage. Not always, mind you, but about half of the time, in my experience.

  8. earless puppy says:

Missing Apps is due to the Apps that went missing were not 3.0 compatiable

  9. Visedar says:

So far everything is working great but I experienced 4 issues things that bothered me or still bothering me: One is that after 3.0 my Exchange address book was removed and I had to re-config it. The second thing is that every time I turn the iPhone on and off or reset, after the Apple logo during booting a blank screen shows for few seconds before showing the unlock screen. The third thing is that typing in text boxes on Safari is very slow and laggy. The forth thing is that sometimes instead of showing AT&T it shows 'searching' while surfing the web or talking on the phone.

  10. Matt Sawyers says:

    @Michael

From the few websites I have visited with the drop down menus, I haven't had an issue with. However, on your website, it does seem to load a webpage, that might actually have to do with the coding on the site. I was able to see the drop down immediately and I was able to stop the loading of the page before it continued on.

  11. @Matt Sawyers It depends on the site and how it's coded - if there is no link associated with the header it works beautifully. If there is a header associated it won't work.

Until BestBuy fixes this (they said they're working on it) you can see a perfect example on BestBuy.com - you can click on the header and then very quickly hit the STOP button to use the drop down menu but that's a pain.

It used to be the first touch was mouse-over and second was mouse-click when there was a mouse-over code on the object. I used to be able to browse BestBuy.com beautifully on the iPhone on Safari but as of 3.0 it's a pain. Check BestBuy.com for yourself.

  12. icebike says:

    @Michael:

I'm not seeing the drop down problem even on nasty drop-down berserker sites like Microsoft MSDN:

    http://s479.photobucket.com/albums/rr151/icebike/?action=view&current=photo-8.jpg

I wonder if clearing your cash would help?

  13. I would like to add that the representative from BestBuy I spoke with that is in charge of web development stated that the "fix" will be to remove all drop-down menus from the "mobile" version of BestBuy - effectively mobile browsers will get a dumbed-down version of the site due to mobile devices not being able to support drop down menus.

The thing that really annoys me is that I moved from my Windows Mobile powered HTC device primarily due to Safari and its ability to allow me to use the browser on the phone like I would on a PC - quickly and efficiently - and a big plus was mouse-over events working in a sane and reasonable fashion.

I will be more than happy to point out hundreds of web sites with drop down menus that do not work on the iPhone as of 3.0 - such as MySpace.com and BestBuy.com. Yes you can use the drop down menus if your internet is somewhat slow or you're really quick on hitting the stop button but in 2.2.1 and prior you never had to do this as it simply *worked.

  14. timdubz says:

i had major problems but i have a quick few ?'s. is there supposed to be a tab under setting for the push notification? and what about the battery icon percentage?

  15. @icebike Some sites - the drop down menus do work - but not all sites as they used to.

You linked to a PhotoBucket image - but try using the drop down menus on PhotoBucket.com on the "Web" version - you will see the menu drop down but it will already be loading the page associated with the header. You can probably hit a sub-menu item fast or stop the loading but why should you have to do that?

    Try BestBuy.com as well.

  16. Matt says:

My only issue is that now for some reason the phone won't stay connected to my home WiFi. I have to reconnect each time I access my phone.

  17. Daje says:

A copule of problems. When I turn my phone off and turn it back on I get a black screen and it comes on. Keyboard in safari is slow. Autofill doesn't work and does anyone know what happened to the battery indicator that was supposed to come with 3.0

  18. I really need some way to record what my iPhone screen is doing - I can point my camcorder at it but surely there is a better way.

Here are a list of sites that the drop down menus do not work correctly on Safari on 3.0 (but they did on 2.2.1). You may say that most of them have a Mobile version or an iPhone version that works great but 1) it's missing features in most cases and 2) sometimes you want or need to use the full version as well as 3) it worked before, why doesn't it work now? I enjoyed Safari on the iPhone because it could handle user interface components such as Drop Down menus and Mouse-Over effects but now as of 3.0 it does not do so across the board.

BestBuy.com PhotoBucket.com (Web Version - Dumbed Down UI) MySpace.com (Web Version - Dumbed Down UI) FaceBook.com (Regular Version, not iPhone Version) Once logged in - the top navigation bar. Yahoo.com - in 2.2.1 and on the PC you can click the "More" button located above the search bar below the logo to the right of "Web|Images|Video|Local|Shopping" to drop down a list such as "Answers, Directory, Jobs, News, All Search Services..." on the iPhone as of 3.0 you can drop the list down but you have to choose quick or hit stop or it navigates on to the "More Services" page.

The fact is that I didn't get an iPhone so I could browse mobile pages - I got an iPhone so I could browse full-featured web pages like I would on my desktop. There are more examples out there and I will bring more to light if needed.

  19. Brrandon says:

A lot of these problems sound like they can be fixed simply by restoring as a new phone. I actually has hardware issues where a quarter of my screen was working at all for long periods of time. If in doubt go to Apple. They will often restore in store and if your problems persist swap the phone out.

  20. missy crace says:

I tweeted and shared on facebook

  21. Syncopations says:

I, too, am having a few minor issues. One of the main ones is the occasional small lag present on the SpringBoard. The Safari keyboard is there, but it's not at a point of being bothersome. I've noticed the blank screen when rebooting the device. Again, this is something that's not bothersome for me.

I have a theory on this. I think the OS is acting like this because it may have been optimized for the iPhone 3GS, with it faster processor and stuff. I could be wrong.

This minor issues are not bothersome. I can live with it.

  22. Auntiewiv says:

Had same 6 gig of other issue. Did restore and it fixed itself but that was before i upgraded to 3.0

  23. TomZimm says:

    My WiFi won't stay engaged.

  24. Kevin says:

So I use Gmail via IMAP in Mail.app, and went I search to e-mails from Spotlight, I land in some kind of weird "Local Mailboxes" area, where I'm not able to navigate back to my Inbox. When I go back out to the home screen, then hit the envelope icon again, I land right back in to "Local Mailboxes." None of my mail appears there. The only way I could figure out how to get out of Local Mailbox Limbo is to restart the phone.

  25. Jesse says:

@ upgrading to 3.0 software, my phone now cannot (AT ALL) connect to my WIFI. Won't even see the network. Was on the phone last night with Apple Care for 2+ hrs and we troubleshooted everything from phone to router. They were baffled of this issue and are sending me a new unit manana in the hopes that new hardware might be the fix. I recommend anyone having WIFE issues after the 3.0 install contact Apple support so they can log user errors into their system for a "bug patch" that their already working on according to the Apple Care technicians i talked to last night. Hope this helps =)

  26. Jesse says:

LOL! "WIFE ISSUES"!!! I meant WIFI issues!!! LOL! Sorry guys!

  27. Donnie says:

This might just be me, but has anyone else noticed their battery is draining FAST after installing 3.0 software? My phone is half dead and I haven't even used my phone that much this a.m.

  28. icebike says:

Donnie: I saw fast battery drain after upgrade. I rebooted phone and all is well.

The only notifications app I have is AP news, and I FETCH, (not push) three mail accounts on a 30 minute basis.

@Jesse: WE are not the ones you need to apologize to for you Freudian slip. ;-)

  29. Omari James says:

Yeah, I've experienced the wi-fi problem... but not this case though.

  30. icebike says:

@Auntiewiv and others with large amounts of "OTHER" storage use.

You very seldom ever have to full restore to fix this. It is a long standing problem that is easily fixed by adding a single song or a single Free App (which you can subsequently delete if you wish).

Its a corrupted sqlite database on the phone, but adding one item fixes it.

  31. I can't find the cord to my camcorder so I used the webcam on my laptop to record this issue to put it on YouTube - the quality is low but it's clear enough to see what's going on. I hope to have it on YouTube in about an hour.

  32. David Starr says:

I have 3 pop mail accounts and mobile me (with push) and don't use fetch. Under the old OS, when you open "Mail" it checks all the accounts and populates with the number of messages. Now it only checks the mobile me account unless you open the individual account windows. Apple Tech says no one else has complained yet.

  33. jp says:

I dont have push working on anything except AP news. AIM wont work nor will ESPN Not only do they not work for push but there isnt even the option to turn them on in the settings on my iphone or the app itself. When i play a song off spotlight search it goes to just any random song (happened like 5 times) and my pioneer head unit in my car no longer recognizes my phone to play songs on the head units interface. F*CK 3.0. I guess im restoring and starting all over again

  34. Alex says:

Upgraded (2) 2G phones. All was well on my wife's. The only snag on mine is that the default language came back as Danish. That was weird! But, thankfully as is well. But, doesn't matter, our new 3GS phones are coming to our door tomorrow anyway! Goodbye 2G phones!

  35. Robert says:

Upgrade went smoothly until I tried to open Maps application - since the upgrade, my location "pin" is approximately 2 blocks away from my current location!!!! Help!

  36. Here is a short video on YouTube that illustrates the drop down menu issue in iPhone OS 3.0 & Safari:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBQl8vKELVY

  37. Andrew says:

3G - 16GB I'm encountering definite delays when I use the magnifier API. I've had unresponsive touches 5+ times since yesterday. TweetDeck is getting destroyed each time it runs.

  38. SlimFromDC says:

i been having that "orange" problem way before 3.0 i think it happen when you unplug you iphone from itunes to fast or the wrong way

i usually get the "orange" thing but all my data has been delete and it still show orange

    crazy

  39. Tom says:

my Maps application works smoothly...except that the little blue dot is always about a street behind where I actually am which makes navigating a bit tricky

  40. Al says:

I had only one problem and that was with stereo Bluetooth. It works great while the iPhone screen is on, when I turn off the screen the audio gets extremely choppy. Turn the screen back on and it works fine again. It's a very strange issue. I think we will be seeing a software release with some bug fixes in a few weeks.

  41. icebike says:

    @SlimFromDC:

The Orange problem (as shown at top of this article) is easily cleared by going to itunes on the phone and downloading one free app or one tune.

You notice in the image above there is no music listed. Thats because the music database is hozed, but it will get rebuilt by adding one song.

And yes, this problem has been there for the last several releases.

  42. Paul says:

Having major trouble with 3.0 - Updated First Gen iPhone and it had problems such as the orange screen of death pictured above. Tried to RESTORE but kept getting an error. ERROR (9) -or- ERROR (2005)

I am now trying to RESTORE from a (gulp) PC. Arghhhhhhh, wish me well.

  43. trilock 3.0 says:

I have found what may be a glitch, in the app store you can now redeem (YAY!) but when you tap edit in the more section all my changes there are lost everytime i restart the app. I also noticed that you can only redeem on wifi?

  44. Louis says:

I updated mine and now I can't surf the net or anything network related unless on WiFi

  45. Corrina says:

My 3G iPhone has been sluggish since the update and it's "glitchy". Some apps freeze and close (like TwitterFon) and it disconnected from my Wi-Fi on it's own. I rebooted it and so far everything's working ok. Crossing my fingers. Can't say I'm surprised... God forbid they get the kinks out before they release anything. lol

  46. GinaB says:

OMG I had this problem way back 1st Gen iPhone! I called Apple and they absolutely no idea what I was talking about...I had to live with it. Then one day I synced and it disappeared thankfully....great it's back now ugh. Good luck people :-/

  47. mark says:

I can't sync music. iTunes reports that the sync has completed, but the iPhone remains stuck on the "syncing" screen. Even after 3 hours -- it's still on that screen. (I've now done this 3 or 4 times, with 3 hours being the longest one.) Upon swiping to "cancel" the sync, I discovered there's no music at all on my iPhone.

I tried instructing iTunes to remove all music from the iPhone (thinking I would then re-sync the music), but the iPhone simply will not sync any music at all. All other data syncs fine.

  48. Megan says:

I use a mophie battery pack--not sure if there's any correlation, but my battery reads full no matter what-even right up to the moment that my battery died. Normally, I leave my Mophie in the 'off' position until I get a low battery message on the iPhone.

Apparently the auxiliary battery is now 'fooling' the software into believing that the internal battery is full. I did not even get a 'warning, 20% of battery remaining' message. Just dead, till I recharged it.

On the upside, my internal battery lasted a little longer today than before the upgrade.

  49. Frank says:

Is anybody having a problem backing up your iPhone? It seems to like it's taking forever. I tried to reboot the iPhone.... Thanks :)

  50. Jamz says:

WiFi keeps disconnecting on my iPod Touch 2nd Gen

  51. Rayman2170 says:

I had the orange "other" data problem, I just re-synced and it was gone.

I did a clean restore to my phone in an attempt to fix alot of problems.

One problem was fixed with the restore:

*Getting weird glitches in some apps. ie blank white screens where a safari window was supposed to open. Invalid entry message while trying to type in text boxes

the following problems are still present after the clean restore:

*I get the blank screen for ~4 after the apple logo when booting. *In maps after setting a route sometimes the purple circle will be in the wrong place or completely absent. *My more button in app store is gone. *The little data spinnwheel in the status bar somtimes just flashes very rapidly. *The phishing site switch in safari settings is missing.

thats all I can remember off the top of my head I'm sure theres more. It feels like it's a open beta now. Hopefully these problems will be fixed soon.

    Lookin forward to 3.0.1

  52. josh r. says:

I have problems with the battery indicators. Though my iPhone's battery is below 20%, when i plug my phone, the battery indicator in the upper right says it's already full after plugging it for just a few seconds.. help please..

  53. Jack V says:

My only problem is when I push the send button on my text box to bring up the keyboard, it does not work. My wife has the same problem with her phone.

  54. William says:

After restarting I don't get the carrier name in the top left hand side only "searching....3G". Ejecting the sim card seems to work, but when I restart my phone I get the same issue. I did a complete restore and set my iPhone up as a new iPhone on iTunes, that seemed to sort the problem out. Vodafone and Vodacom South Africa are not yet setup for MMS and Internet Tethering, not to sure when that will happen as they didn't seem to know that the update 3.0 was released on the 17th. When i called I was told that the update would only be released near the end of the month.

  55. Dev says:

I was facing the same issue. Restored my iPhone and now everything looks good.

  56. icebike says:

    @josh r.:

Run your phone down till it shuts off by itself, then recharge it till you see the Plug symbol.

You need to calibrate the charge measuring circuit once in a while by this procedure.

  57. Dennis says:

I have same problem as many others that upgraded to 3.0, short battery life and phone hot. I have seen many threads solving the problem in various ways, but nothing that have worked for me.

  58. josh r. says:

    @icebike

Thanks! I'll do that. I hope it'll work for my phone.

  59. Mike M says:

Had the wifi issue, did a clean install and it seems to be working fine now. It's less "glitchy" now too, but not glitch-free yet that's for sure.

@Josh R - I don't know your charging situation, but when I had mine plugged into my car stereo, running maps and streaming music to the car, the battery would say it was fully charged when it was really being drained. Shutting maps down got it to charge again. I don't think I would have had a problem if I were plugged into a regular charger but I don't think the stereo could handle it.

  60. Barbara says:

Hi there! Since updating my iPhone, I cannot get to new photos. The ones I had on my phone before update are available but when I go to the photos menu it says I have 235 photos...when I open the folder only 202 are there (photos from pre-update) How can I fix this??

  61. Nate says:

after updating the first issue I had was syncing apps. the phone said the computer wasnt authorized, after logging in a second time while the phone was connected, I was able to sync the apps properly. Also having issue with exchange email sync, some folders just wont sync on the phone any more. They were there before the update and working fine, and now, they dont even show up as available. Unfortunately they are folders I need all the time. Suggestions welcome.

  62. Russ says:

    Lost all my SMS messages.

  63. Mike M says:

I restored from backup and my apps were put where I had set them instead of in alphabetical order. Is this a new thing or did I accidentally hit one of those weird ctrl + shift things that apple loves to throw in there?

  64. Allan says:

Like Josh R I too have had battery problems after upgrading a 2.0 model iPhone. My battery drains quickly and the phone becomes very hot. I turned off Push and Location, and perhaps it drained a bit slower, but nevertheless it drained and started dissipating heat as if it was my MacBook Pro. Also, my mail is not being retrieved when asked. The phone seems to cut away from Mail after just a few seconds of searching for new messages. Oh yes, my WiFi signal goes in and out, yet my MacBook signal remains strong and constant. I had none of these problems the day before upgrade, so if it walks like a duck then it must be the Leopard scenario all over again, especially after reading this forum. But my faith in Apple says 3.01 is on its way already. Please....??!!

  65. charles says:

turn off push notifications. it saved a lot of battery life and fix the lag on my springboard.

  66. Dave says:

Before I upgraded to 3.0 I could plug in an aftermarket AV lead and watch videos via my Plasma. Now after the upgrade when I plug the AV lead in the phone says "Enhancement not supported" although the audio comes through ok, there's no video. Any ideas?

  67. Johnny says:

my youtube is not clear. its displaying the low resolution rather than the high quality videos. i tried restarting my phone but nothing. it happened before back when i updated to 2.2, i think, but was eventually fixed by going to settings>general>reset>reset network. help me out someone.

  68. Ghost says:

I have a problem synching Notes. I cannot get Notes to sync.

  69. Chris Burgess says:

Initially after upgrading to 3.0 I didn't have the "orange bar" issue with the phone database becoming corrupted. I have yet to rectify it despite the suggestions made here. I've tried syncing music from the computer to the phone, downloading an app on the computer and syncing, downloading an app on the phone directly, etc. all to no avail. Short of a restore (which is undesirable) are there other things one can try in order to remedy the database?

  70. Pinoy22201 says:

    UNBELIEVABLE!

STUPIDLY, I upgraded to 3.0 the day before a business trip.

I'm across the country and my phone is literally USELESS. I've put too much dependence on my phone and the apps. Now I'm dead in the water...

I noticed a little lag before I left, but thought it was would clear up.

The lag is unbearable. There's a 2-3 second delay when I try to do anything. I've uninstalled all my non-essential apps thinking there was a conflict. I've done a hard reset several times. Turned off wi-fi and bluetooth. Nothing works

Something is burning my processor hot. The back of my phone is hot and after about 2 hours, the battery is dead.

Totally my fault... I shouldn't have upgraded... Now I'm doing my business on payphones (remember those?)

    Does anyone have a solution?

  71. felipe says:

i have the problem with the battery problems too and when you open the text or any app is kind of slow. i dont understand this upgrade was meant to fix a lot a problems but i think the las software was better i dont know. well i do like the landscape keyboard but the iphone si slower than before and i dont wanna upgrade to the iphone 3gs cuz i dont think si that much better ill preffer to wait till next year maybe they would have that you processor that intel is making that is the size of a penni. the the iphone is going to be the best smat phone ever

  72. Jay says:

Every time I use my iPhone I have to re-enter my password. The Settings option used to allow 1 hour of inactivity before requiring a password. I understand increasing security, and possibly even forcing "instant" as the default, but the option to select something more convenient has been removed.

  73. Bill says:

Downloaded the new software and now my iPhone won't receive any emails. It connects, says it is downloading a new message and then boots me back to the app screen. The setup for my email is the same as before the software update. Any ideas?

  74. Joe says:

Since downloading the new software, my iPhone is no longer synching correctly with my exchange server -- I'm missing most of my contacts and calendar entries. Not sure what to do with this...

  75. Koray says:

My battery is running dead at the end of every day now..It used to last 3-4 days.. My exchange server stopped working.. I deleted it and tried to reconfigure it and realized that the IMAP configuration option was gone.. I am out of email. I am calling support tomorrow to try to go back to previous version.. What a joke.. If this were a ploy for us to get the new phone, you can go f... yourself Apple..

  76. Justin says:

Another one with the 2 hour battery life and the burning hot backplate - its as if the CPU is stuck on 100%... this sukks

  77. Tom says:

Just got a new iPhone three days ago and downloaded apps were working fine. Then updated to OS 3.0 and none of my third party downloaded apps are working. When opened, it just goes right back to the home screen. Tried deleting and then re-installing but that doesnt work. NEED HELP PLEASEEE

  78. Lindsay says:

I've had several issues. I have granted iTunes access to my PC and Laptop. I tried to do the 3.0 upgrade on my Laptop (usually done on PC) and it completely crashed my phone. iTunes has renamed my phone and I can't find the option to select a phone profile under the name usually used. It is now "Unknown".

-I lost some 100 pictures in the fiasco.

-iTunes is not finding many of the songs I have already purchased but it will tell me that I purchased them but they are nowhere to be found.

    • My battery is not taking a full carge then drains with in a couple of hours.

I started this last night and have not figured out yet, what else has gone wrong.

    This is very frustrating.

I decided to upgrade to 3.0 because my iPhone had been doing this neat trick of creating a click sound and then giving me a 5-7 second delay. It chose to do this only when I was trying to speak to a client which was very unnerving for both of us. I will find out tomorrow if the delay is still happening. It would do it in 2G and 3G. My Hubby has the 2G and is on the same cell towers as me all day every day and has never experienced this.

I love my iPhone but some of the issues are not just minor annoyances.

  79. als_planner says:

So I'm asking myself: Is 'copy & paste' really worth all this? If you would of asked me that last Tuesday I would of said of course... today my answer is no way!

With my 3g phone I've had endless issues with this 'upgrade'... programs lagging, less battery life, syncing problems, email accounts pushing emails when my push is customized to not push those accounts and THE MOST ANNOYING my WIFI connection is completely hosed. I've done everything imaginable, from wiping the phone clean and starting from the beginning, reseting all network connections, to constant rebooting, alas I can't get constant contact with my WIFI. At best the connection bounces in and out, as if the internal WIFI chip is turning off and on. Some forums have suggested turning off all push sources, which I have done to no avail. Before the upgrade I had none of these problems.

I'm hoping 3.0.1 isn't far behind. This is clearly something that wasn't ready for primetime.

Ever since upgrading my wife’s iPhone to 3.0, it is constantly transmitting; I can tell because it's interfering with our baby monitor, battery life as a result of this, is horrible. The only way I was able to get it to stop was to turn on 3G. Whereas before, I turned 3G off to sustain battery life, now it needs to be on so I get more than 2 hours of use. Agreed… not sure if Copy and Paste was this critical.

Hello, i have a TERRIBLE problem with my iphone. I upgraded it to the new software and there's an image on the screen with the end of the wire and the itunes icon. I have turned it on and off, removed and put back again the sim card, uninstalled and install itunes again but nothing works...

  82. Chris says:

the only problem i have had so far is that "notes" updated a bunch of old stuff and my new notes didnt transfer. and now, if i try and delete the old notes, it crashes and brings me back to the home screen. I have tried restoring and that didnt work

I'm having the same problem as Allan and Bill. First gen iPhone will not connect to mail at all. I almost had some success with gmail, but I'm getting NO communication with the exchange server at all! Also iPhone running very hot and battery keeps draining. I finally managed to get enough battery power to reboot, but it does not seem to have helped anything. I haven't even been able to use cut and paste!

3.0 upgrade went smooth. BUT, now my phone is running HOT, literally. I pulled it out of my bag and it was hot and the battery was almost dead. I am averaging 4 hour battery life and hot battery. This started, literally, right after I upgraded. Any ideas?

  85. AngryApple says:

I cant believe this... Thought the upgrade worked perfectly... Until I tried to listen to some of my music on my iPhone... It's not there anymore. When I plugged my iPhone in and went to the summary tab I noticed the "Other" files seemed to have taken over my music... Cant sync, cant change or remove music... Trying a restore now... Better work or Jobs is getting a phone in his face :-)

  86. AngryApple says:

    It worked.

Once you restore from factory and then restore from a previous backup you should hopfully get an error when it tries to sync the music... So in othereword everthing is fixed except for you music... Simply drag and drop from your music library to your iphone and hey presto you have music again.

I have an Iphone. Ever since the new updates on the 19th my yahoo email doesnt have direct push capablities. I need my emails immediately. Anyone have any suggestions for a fix. My IPhone is now useless for business.

  89. Amber says:

Help! I have three mail accounts on my iPhone (mac.com, Yahoo, and Exchange). All worked fine until 3.0 update...now everytime I hit the mail icon, it goes to my Yahoo account for about 3 seconds, then defaults to the phone homescreen again.

If I try toggle back out of Yahoo to access my other accounts, the phone resets to the homescreen again. I've tried rebooting my phone and re-entering username and passwords in the mail settings, all to no avail. Anyone have a fix for this?

  90. Jay says:

Upgraded to 3.0 last night. Now all of my applications crash immediately after opening.

  91. Frank says:

I also noticed that after installing 3.0 my battery life dropped dramatically. Im also having trouble receiving calls and text message. Anyone having the same problem?

  92. Tom says:

Also cannot connect to exchange mail to send or receive since updating to 3.0. Checks for mail and says it is downloading but then goes to the mail screen without downloading. Battery life sucks now. Don't want to wait for Apple support (?). Any suggestions?

  93. EDE says:

My wife and I have an iphone each, and one computer, a MacBook Pro. I plugged in my iphone into the computer when I bought my iphone about 5 months ago and everything ran smoothly. My wife plugged her's into a friends computer at around the same time as we wernt aware that you could have 2 iphones into one computer (She also took a few of their songs and apps - under their account).

Anyway, the iphone 3.0 software has come out, and me now understanding that she can plug in her iphone into my computer (only found that out today) I installed the new software onto her phone, plugged her phone into my computer and downloaded the software. Thats all working fine. My problem now is that when it goes to backup it takes either so long or rushes through and doesnt sync anything. i have prompted the phone to now take off all the old music from her phone and to replace it with new music from my itunes library. I've also prompted the apps to do the same. However when the sync apparently finishes, theres no new music (just a the titles from the old set that she had from her friends computer that don't play) and no new applications. How do I resolve this problem?

  94. Ivan says:

Ever since I upgraded to 3.0 (unlocked) from 2.1 (unlocked), my battery has not even lasted me 4 hours on and less than 1 hour of talk time. This is bullcrap, because I've never had any battery issues before; the battery would usually last me 1 1/2 - 2 days.

  95. Sheri says:

Since upgrading to 3.0 my iphone receives duplicate emails. Any ideas? Also after syncing with my MAC laptop, my photos also duplicated. ANY Suggestions? Thanks!

  96. Matt says:

After I downloaded the 3.0 software, my life changed forever. My iphone has cured my AIDS! Thanks Apple you are truley lifesavers.

  97. Lane says:

Hi All, I do NOT see a cellular data setting on my iPhone. I'm on ATT legit and everything works like maps, youtube in 3G and in WIFI so all works well, but no "Cellular Data" setting in Network. I want to access my Visual Voicemail settings as it isn't working. It just goes to normal voicemail. don't care about MMS stuff. Any Thoughts?

    Thank You, Lane

I have a big problem since upgrading to 3.0!!! I am now unable to Sync music with my iphone.... Everytime I try it will get to different points and say it is unable to read / write to hard disc. I have restored it 15 times and each time it will not download any music to it.

It also shows my iPhone as having Audio on. Simalar to the Orange Other, I get 3 gig of Blue Audio in iTunes but the iPhone is blank....

    Any ideas as to why....?

  99. Netanya says:

Upgrade seemed ok but mail Acct now won't sync. Won't even register that there is a mail acct. Has anyone worked out how to fix this? Should I restore???

  100. Mark says:

Tom (at 6:19 June 22) I'm having the identical problem with mail, which crashes back to the main screen within 8 secs. I'm going to a Genius this afternoon to make them fix it.
