My Daughter-in-law gave me her iphone 3 after upgrading to the iphone 4. she was with O2 and I am with vodaphone, so I took it into get it unlocked, since getting it back it will only vibrate not ring out. Also it spamodicly vibrates for no reason and sometimes will not go into other apps. There are some small lines that have appeared on the screen.

Here is the problem. for some reason my G3 network is not working I have contacted At&t and they replaced my sim card. Still I have the same problem. When I change my net work to g2 I can make calls. G3 50/50 does anyone else have this problem? If so how have you fixed it?

Upgraded 3g phone to version 3 (then to 3.0.1) and find that the screen blanks out while in a call and doesn't come back quick enough. If I need to get the the keyboard to "press 1 for..." or even to hang up.

Heads up on 3.01… Just happened to plug my iPhone 32gb in iTunes this weekend and there was an update to be installed so I let it fly. Somewhere after installing/verifying error!. The process left my phone cratered with the flashing plug into iTunes graphic on screen. So I spent the hours waiting for iTunes to reinstall the bios & OS, restore the phone from backup and reinstall all apps. Then of course another hour plus for it to resync and copy back the ~24GB’s of music it erased.

This was my first Apple product ever (been a programmer 25 years) and I won’t soon trust them again…

I can send and recieve messages all right, but then I hit the home button and I come back to messages and all my history is gone. This problem started when I deleted all my messages, I already had some minor problems, but all this started happening since then. Any suggestions?

My iphone stopped receiving calls after upgrading to 3.0. Battery life is much shorter too. A friend at work also had the same problem. He reinstalled 3.0 without the carrier upgrade and seemed to fix the call issue. I called Optus and they got me to reset the network settings in general settings. They did the same at their end, now i am receiving calles again.

Updated to 3.0 yesterday on a first generation Iphone. Now I can no longer access work e-mail (grrrrr). It tries to download messages (unsuccessfully) but then reverts back to homescreen after a few seconds. Can anyone provide a fix? Thanks.

FIX FOUND!!! I have a 3.0 redsnow .7 & .8 hacked iPhone (2G) that was draining battery life before noon (fully charged @ 7am) I noticed that if I chose T-Mobile instead of Automatic for carrier, it would give me a warning every 5 min. I was also missing alot of calls that weren't appearing on my call log. Had a similar problem with an old phone, went to T-Mobile, got a new SIM card for free and now the battery lasts longer than ever.

When listening to iPod if I send an SMS the songs jump and get stuck. The end call display doesn't show up at times. Safari freezes. Applications don't download.now my phone can't handle any plugs other than iPhone official ear buds. If I use plugs for stereo or other headphones the songs stop and start and stop and start.

My iphone 3g now updated to 3.0 - it now loses my home wifi connection and asks me to reenter the password for my network. Safari crashes when closing one window to goto another. I keep losing my signal although in a strong signal area and my phone has started saying NO SIM INSTALLED at times, so I have to reboot. all in all now not reliable so thinking of purchasing a second phone so I don't lose customers when out and about.

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me!!! I had an iphon 3g for literally a year, and it got stolen off of me in broad daylight on the 2nd of July. However through insurance (thank god), I recieved a new phone and sim the following day... now the problems start... I synced the phone to itunes 8.2 and it said the iphone could not restore back up, as the software is too old (my old phone was 3.0 and the new one obviously 2.2.1). It then said I needed to set the phone up as a new iphone, which I did. However, after doing this and choosing to restore back up, it only gives me the option of restoring iphone to "Jahangeer's iphone" and one restoring date, 10th april 09! How can that be when I only last synched and backed up my old iphone 3g a week before it was stolen?! I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to solve the problem. Any ideas/help would extremely be appreciated!!!

After re-synching twice 3G almost perfect. JVC car radio and iHome recognizes it again. Only video lost was JOOST. Upgrade took 9 hours but synchs normal now. Strongly suggest returning it to original status before upgrade. Overall I rate 3.0 as a worthwhile improvement

Joost no longer works.

Best Buys drop down menu definitely no longer works but I never used that feature.

Messed up music when iPhone is plugged into car radio.

iHOME alarm clock is no longer iPhone compatible.

Google Earth actually seems to work better.

Lost all old pictures.

Picasa 3 no longer synchs pictures but I can browse Picasa online.

Love search function on home page.

DAVID STARR "I have 3 pop mail accounts and mobile me (with push) and don’t use fetch. Under the old OS, when you open “Mail” it checks all the accounts and populates with the number of messages. Now it only checks the mobile me account unless you open the individual account windows. Apple Tech says no one else has complained yet."

Same issue. It drives me nuts. Hope they fix it. Have multi accounts and didn't used to have to open all of them to see if you had email.

I figured out the send button not working to bring up the keyboard to reply to text messages with the 3.0 update guys. You now have to click on the white bubble next to the send button like you are putting your cursor there, and then the keyboard comes up when replying to text messages..... Wish Apple would have mentioned this.

The reason for not being able to force quit on the 3G is because the firmware is all tied together for all 3 generations of devices. I have the 3GS and it has voice control which is activated by holding home. That gets ported over to the 3G and all it does is make the force quit sequence useless and theoretically it isn't there anymore, only support for voice control which isn't supported on the 3G, only 3GS. Hope that helps.

Ok ....... My cousin used to work for the devolpment dept at apple , he recently quit . I addressed alot of these issues to him because i am experiencing alot of the same ones you are . I was told there is a big difference in the 3.0 os in the 3g s and other iphones , the firmware for the 3g s has alot of stuff in it the the available upgrade does not ! This was done on purpose by apple to try and boost sales of the 3g s phones ! It makes the 3g phones look " out of date "

I updated my iPhone to 3.0 the day it came out. Everything seemed fine, but suddenly around half the songs on my iPod stopped playing. Well- it says they're playing- but no sound is coming out. Yet my phone has sound for applications, email, texting, etc. I've no idea what to do.

I have a problem with Safari on my phone after I updated it. It wont work at all, and has on several occasions caused my phone to crash completely. I cannot figure out what the problem is.

Should I restore the phone and then update it from my back up? I've already had to start all over again without any of my apps or anything once. I don't want to do that again.

Ive got one big problem with backing up. A while after i got the update, i tried to back it up (on Itunes 8.2 btw), i left it for two hours and it only got about 1/3 of the way. Tried the same thing after cancelling the backing up, left it up for 3 hours and still only 1/3 way there. Two days later before I went to bed i connected it, when i came back to it 10 hours later (Beforre leaving home) it only went 1/3 of the way!! Now i dont really want to restore it because before i tried to back it up, i purchased quite a few items through wifi, and it wont let me transfer my purchases, although it does let me sync items onto the ipod. I have also never jail broke my ipod, so if there is any fix let me know please!!

Hey you guys maybe this helps I have a 16 gb iPhone 3G and I did a restore and update and my phone works PERFECT!!!!!!!! %100 and I've had no problems seems to me like all the people that have had problems just updated but it's always better to restore and update a clean device I don't have any lag in spotlight I don't have any email problems and I have 5 accounts on push I have no battery issues my battery lasts me 1-2 days wifi Bluetooth and push on my maps is perfect I get no typing lag nothing so maybe u guys who have problems try restoring it and see maybe that helps

Ever since doing the OS 3.0 update, my iPhone (3G) is not able to close down an application when you hold the home button for 8-10 seconds. You were able to do this with the 2.x versions. As a result, my battery is draining quicker than before. I've restored and reset the phone to factory specs and re-updated the phone which, by the way I just bought in April, and the same problem persists. Has anyone else had this problem? Can others with 3.0 open something on the phone and try to hold the home button for 8-10 seconds and see if the app closes? What is happening is that the application closes if you hit the home button but, it's technically still running in the background, thus draining the battery.

The 3.0 software, unless altered, is speeding up the processor in the 2G and 3G iPhones. This can be done on any computer. The problem is, if the CPU can't handle it, it will get very hot. A unit using a battery will drain it much more quickly. Also, things can go crazy. Program (and apps) can fail or not work at all (email, music, syncing, etc.). The 3Gs CPU is made to run at a higher speed (I hope). I've done this as a programmer on computers. Sometimes it works but usually there are problems.

I installed the 3.0 update and after that was saying something about the sim card not accepted in another language...finally got it to let me use my phone but has a few glitches but the one that bugs me the most is with my Maps app. The blue location point is like on the other side of my current location...any idea if that can be fixed? and also...internet works on and off...not as good as what is was before.

Please...if any info on how to rectify the maps location problem, please help me ...bugging me so much, the app is ussless without my current location.

I had the exact same problem as Rene Ritchie today using 3.0 on a 3G. I had almost 4GB of Other showing up, and my Music didn't appear. I created a new playlist and synched it, then SSH'd to /private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control and deleted the folder Music . No more Other, and the new playlist is still there. Not sure why though.

This is for everyone who is having problems with Mail crashing and going back to the mail screen or app screen.

I was thinkering around, I have about 7 different mail accounts, I was going to delete one of them (since I don't use at all) to see if this did anything.

When I went to "Settings" and then "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" I found at the end of my list of email accounts a random or dummy email account. I deleted it and that solved my problem.

My battery is back to working fine, since it's not spending all the time trying to search for this random email.

I had the same problem as some of you guys. When I selected the Mail app it would go there for a few seconds and then suddenly revert back to the home screen. I couldn't believe I was unable to access my emails! Also had a problem with it running hot and short battery life.

It turned out that the 3.0 upgrade had created extra dummy accounts in Mail, which was causing the problem. Go to Settings > Mail and delete any dummy or duplicate mail accounts.

Now all is working fine and battery life back to normal.

HELP!!!! A apple rep told me today that my problem is not a problem it's just how it works BS!!! My husband and I both got the new iPhone 3g s. We brought them home and backed up all the data on our 3g. I called AT&T told them of the change, gave them the new IMEI numbers for each phone number, they told me all I had to do was put our sim cards in the new 3gs and activate the phone which will sync all apps, data in the apps and so on. I asked 3 times if I was going to lose ANY app data or anything for that matter and was told no! So I plugged my new phone in followed the instructions and all went well, so I thought. All my apps were there but all app data GONE! Games that my husband spent 2 months getting to level 100 were all lost apps were launching like they were brand new. I had a year of fertility & cancer data that I would share with my Dr ALL GONE! someone help! Two days prior I upgraded to 3.0 on old phones with no lost data & no problems what so ever. I've called AT&T & Apple and they tell me "they just don't know" told me restore from backup should work? I DIDNT and I know it should bcs I have friends that had no problem. Someone tell me what to do..

I was searching for the solution to the same problem as David Starr (Item 32) and came across your blog. When there are multiple email accounts, it appears OS 3.0 does not fetch pop accounts unless one enters into each individual inbox. Progress (?) to report. For some reason email no longer crashes, but searches interminably for new emails. Result is somewhat less frustrating, but result is the same (no new email).

On iPhone 2G, and having networks disconnect randomly. Can happen dozens of times in as many minutes (Which is maddeningly frustrating!), but at other times goes hours fine. It's weird.

Lag is annoying the hell out of me. The keyboard in Spotlight takes 2-3 seconds to appear.In general everything seems to be running much more slowly, especially app store and iTunes... takes maybe 20-30 seconds to load up even when I'm on my home's wifi connection.

Had a play with the 3GS in a shop and it was so much smoother. I know the processor is faster but makes me wonder whether iPhone 3G can handle 3.0.

Upgrade seemed ok but mail Acct now won't sync. Won't even register that there is a mail acct. Has anyone worked out how to fix this? Should I restore???

I have a big problem since upgrading to 3.0!!! I am now unable to Sync music with my iphone.... Everytime I try it will get to different points and say it is unable to read / write to hard disc. I have restored it 15 times and each time it will not download any music to it.

It also shows my iPhone as having Audio on. Simalar to the Orange Other, I get 3 gig of Blue Audio in iTunes but the iPhone is blank....

Any ideas as to why....?

Hi All, I do NOT see a cellular data setting on my iPhone. I'm on ATT legit and everything works like maps, youtube in 3G and in WIFI so all works well, but no "Cellular Data" setting in Network. I want to access my Visual Voicemail settings as it isn't working. It just goes to normal voicemail. don't care about MMS stuff. Any Thoughts?

Ever since I upgraded to 3.0 (unlocked) from 2.1 (unlocked), my battery has not even lasted me 4 hours on and less than 1 hour of talk time. This is bullcrap, because I've never had any battery issues before; the battery would usually last me 1 1/2 - 2 days.

My wife and I have an iphone each, and one computer, a MacBook Pro. I plugged in my iphone into the computer when I bought my iphone about 5 months ago and everything ran smoothly. My wife plugged her's into a friends computer at around the same time as we wernt aware that you could have 2 iphones into one computer (She also took a few of their songs and apps - under their account).

Anyway, the iphone 3.0 software has come out, and me now understanding that she can plug in her iphone into my computer (only found that out today) I installed the new software onto her phone, plugged her phone into my computer and downloaded the software. Thats all working fine. My problem now is that when it goes to backup it takes either so long or rushes through and doesnt sync anything. i have prompted the phone to now take off all the old music from her phone and to replace it with new music from my itunes library. I've also prompted the apps to do the same. However when the sync apparently finishes, theres no new music (just a the titles from the old set that she had from her friends computer that don't play) and no new applications. How do I resolve this problem?

Also cannot connect to exchange mail to send or receive since updating to 3.0. Checks for mail and says it is downloading but then goes to the mail screen without downloading. Battery life sucks now. Don't want to wait for Apple support (?). Any suggestions?

I also noticed that after installing 3.0 my battery life dropped dramatically. Im also having trouble receiving calls and text message. Anyone having the same problem?
