TiPB Standing in Line for the iPhone 3G S
I'm at the Apple Flagship Store, waiting in line for the latest, greatest iPhone 3G S. 10 or so people right now, but apparently some tour buses are on the way. We'll update this thread with more from TiPb and our readers, so if you're in line, head over to the TiPb iPhone Forums and post your pics, stories, and videos. Dieter will move some of the funnest over here.
Good luck to all!

[The updates continue after the break!]

Our good pal Matthew Miller of Nokia Experts fame lined up in Seattle at 2:30am local.
Meanwhile, many folks in Europe already have the 3G S in hand, per pguich in our iPhone Forums:
Switzerland started selling iphones about an hour ago. I was there 5 minutes before opening, and there were about 3 people waiting (I think 2 weren't even there for the iphone). Doesn't look like the mad rush from last year is going to happen.

Chad Garrett boldly waited until 6:00 am to line up at Kenwood Towne Center in Cincinnati, OH and it doesn't look like he'll miss out on his iPhone 3G S because of his tardiness.
Forum member nyknicks4412 is genuinely excited about his iPhone 3G S video taken in the parking lot above.

Leanne Lofte isn't so sure that she needed to show up at 5:30am in Monterey, CA, what with only nine people in line.

Matthew Miller sends word that rain has finally come to Seattle... just in time to fall on iPhone Line sitters. Fortunately, there are umbrellas to be had.
Rene's all set! No activation yet, though -- has to go home and do it through iTunes, he says.

Hi Rene, hows the weather? We only had 3 people waiting when I opened the doors this morning! How bigs the queue there?
Marc
I'm in Georgia waiting in a line of about 20 people at AT&T store
Rene did you write this using Tethering on your laptop?
hahha america is soo rubbish use had to camp out and everything i got to my local o2 store a 8:20am and no one was there. when i left at 9;15 there was only two other people getting served
We had seven people in line @ 6:30, then at seven they started letting us in. They weren't supposed to open 'till 9. No complaints from me
I live in CT, Rolled up to mall where att store is at 2:am just like last year...I am only one there, 6 am same thing... the mall doors open and I am the only person walking in at 6:55am, get to the store... they are all saying where is everyone...I did not preorder a phone but they hooked me up with the 32 becuase no one was there even getting their preorder.. I have some pics of the store with no line... where can I post
I did early upgrade 499$ so worth it
No, free Apple WiFi FTW!
Wow judging by what's been said about the lines by you guys I'm guessing here in London, Ontario Canada there sure as hell won't be a line.
I might go and get it when my sister is on her lunch break at around 11.. if I can get someone to come to my house before then to buy my current iPhone from me LOL
Sounds like they aren't gonna sell as many as they were hoping, maybe they'll let us 3g users upgrade earlier, drop the ridiculous price of the iphone (why is it $300 more than an ipod, does a camera and phone radio cost that much more?) and let us 3g users upgrade earlier
In Niles, OH there was only one person when I showed up, but I got to go in front of him because I had a pre-order. No server crash or anything like that this year. Only took me ten minutes, and I was out the door. This device is amazing. I'm very happy I upgraded. 32gb is very nice as well.
Thanks for sharing... noticed you didn't want to take the plastic off. Hehe.
Im about to go with my dad to the apple store to pick his up im kinda jealous
idk what the guy that runs this site is talkin bout all i hear on the news is how many ppl around the world and other various cities are lining up for the iphone like the last one??? conflicting reports i think not lol cuz even the palm pre phone owners are heated on the blog cuz the iphone looking like a champ
So, ya, yesterday in Fort Worth at the University Center Location, there were 7 people in line at 3pm Thursday
got my new toy 3GS @ Fido store downtown Montreal. Grrrr have to charge at least 8hours.
im happy!
why are people lining up when you could of just ordered it online
I got mines 7 this morning I was the first one. It's awesome!! Where is the iPhone version of this site?
@BRE BRE, don't believe everything you hear on the news... my guess is that stores in major cities had long lines, but where I live, I was the seventh person in line at 6:30. The was one other couple by seven when they started letting us in (two hours earlier, BTW. I noticed once I was inside they had a security guard standing outside to police the thing, but everyone was in the store (even though they were controlling it and only letting in so many at a time - there just weren't any people to make stand outside!).
can someone please tell me where to look for this information?
i just synched my iphone 3gs and got all my settings and apps and everything back to normal... the only app i ever paid for was Super Monkey Ball, and it's the only app that absolutely will not sync (it keeps saying theres an error)
does this have anything to do with it being a "paid for" app or is this just a Super Monkey Ball problem?
its annoying that my app wont sync and i dont know where else to even start looking for this answer - sorry that it's off topic
Not bad this morning. Total of (3) people in line. I was surprised to see a security guard b/c I live in such a small town. I would have never thought we would need one... I think the employees @ AT&T were more confused than customers. They actually turned away a guy that was waiting there since 4am b/c he did pre-order with only 3 people in line (including me). They eventually called him back b/c there was no crazy rush. Messed up??
Waco, Texas doesn't seem to have many early birds. I arrived at my local AT&T store at 8:00 to scope out the line situation and see if I had the patience to wait. Much to my surprise I saw an empty parking lot and AT&T employees standing around outside the store with nothing to do. I didn't pre-order and didn't want to stand around outside by myself, so I left to run an errand or two and grab a latte from Starbucks. I returned around 8:45 and not much had changed, though there were several people in the store at that point. I decided to go on in. Chuck, the AT&T guy handed me my shiny new 32GB white about ten minutes later. A few other people were leaving the store the same time I did and we all just smiled at each other proudly as we displayed our bright orange bags. ...one good thing about living in Waco, Texas is not having to worry about waiting in line on new iPhone day!
@Matt, you can try the forums. I loaded my last backup into my 3G S and had no problems with my two paid apps (The Sims and Pocket Hunter). Good luck
@ Matt, does it say in the error it is not compatible with 3.0. I got the same error for (2) apps. I had to not sync them & I guess we have to wait for some of these developers to release a 3.0 compatible update.
Looks like the Pre ordering plans helped to clear up some of the ATT store lines =)
I was actually there at 4:45a
The lines got kinda long by opening.
Preorders took the fun out of it! No madness in Orlando, FL. I arrived @ 740am and was second in line for pre-orders. No pre-order? No problem! That line was about 10 to 15 deep and they were already taking those people in as well. Manager provided bottled water to those in line.
Every single store in London ON is sold out. More stock on Monday.
ugh I am mad about that.
In the Los Angeles area, the media have been reporting, the lines are dismal, nothing like last year. Its clear the hype has worn off.
I think the fact that since people can't get the discount if they already have last years model, that has slowed things down tremendously. Next year, if they give us the golden pig of I Phones, those with 2nd gens will have lines around the corner.
I got mine from the At&t store here in Cincinnati. They opened up a 7. It was about 10 of us that walked right in at 7:00am and we were all done and out the door wishing each other luck around 7:45am. I was surprised. I thought it was gonna be crowded like that past 2 years.
I think that the fact that the iPhone is now sold at four different stores and that people could buy it online is the real reason for the short waits. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the phone is not popular. IMO.
I got in line at my local Best Buy at 7:00am (figured circumventing the AT&T store was the best way to go) I was the only one in line. Store opens at 10:00am. Still the only on there. Get inside and find out that the phones haven't come in yet and I need to check beack after noon. FML.
Went to store to pick up pre purchased IPhone 3GS, got there 15 minutes after opening of doors, no line for pre purchases only two people for waiting to purchase. I was freakin out while I was watching news, seeing all the people on line in the city waiting, figured I was s******.....took my coffee, two kids and headed out to the store. Surprise, Surprise. No wait, NO line.....alot of salespeople tho..Ft. Meyers store. Shout out to Julio at the ATT Store... Thank You
Oh it was the early news, was up at 6am, kids got me up was at store by 7:15am
I had preordered my 32gb via ATT.com and was set to recieve it monday. However, I decided to pop into my local ATT store around 11am and they had 10 32gbs just delivered. Of course I scooped one up, the one being delivered is going to my wife.
QUICK QUESTION..??? SHIT IS SO OFF TOPIC BUT THOUGHT ID ASK SINCE IM ACTIVATING MY FONE BY MYSELF AT HOME...WELL WEN I GET HOME TO DO SO DO I NEED ITUNES TO GET MY FONE TO WORK?? SORRY IM NEW =) AND CONFUSED LOL
@BRE BRE yes you need itunes to activate it and all will go well . Enjoy ur new toy
THANXKZ LOL
I preordered mine from the Apple store at the Northpark Mall in Dallas and when I arrived at about 2:30 p.m. there were seven people in the preordered line and about twice that in the other line. I spoke to the woman managing the line and she said they had 960 preorders and that they'd probably had 500 people come through already today. Most of the employees had been there since at least 6:00 am and they said that the air conditioning broke in the morning (the heat index is 96 today). The a/c repairman was walking out as I was finishing up my purchase -- I told the Apple employees they ought to give the guy a free phone...
I should've taken videos of the lightning storm we had while waiting. my brother might have. i'll check and post a link if he did. we were first in line at schaumburg, IL woodfield apple store
Got mine from FedEx at around 10AM, no standing in line, no getting up early, no driving anywhere. I just answered the door and told the FedEx guy thanks
I decided I was too lazy to drive the hour to get to the Apple store so I tried my luck at a local At&t store in Lansing at 7:45. After a 15 minute wait (about 6 people in store already being helped) I got a white 3G s 32 GB. Knowing this I would have felt REAL bad making that trek to Novi Apple.
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% certain. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
