Which iPhone are You? Apple Charts the Differences
Apple’s Knowledge Base once again steps up in the handy-dandy reference chart department with a feature check-list showing highlighting some major features supported by all iPhone models, by the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S, and by the new iPhone 3G S alone.
There are some caveats, however:
- Peer-to-peer connectivity requires compatible applications, which can be downloaded from the App Store when available.
- The original iPhone does not support using Bluetooth for peer-to-peer connectivity. It can use Wi-Fi and cellular data networks for peer-to-peer connectivity.
- MMS is not available in all areas; fees may apply. See your carrier for availability.
- Internet tethering is not currently offered in the United States and some other countries. See your carrier for availability.

Shake to Shuffel, which virtually nobody cares about gets included? Really Apple?
Oddly, Notifications which everyone was eager to have, are not included on this list.
Question? Are Notifications an experimental feature that could go away if there is not a revenue stream for Apple in the future? Its a huge infrastructure expense.
Apple didn’t even trust notifications enough to include support for it into their own “App Store”. This says to me its not time to stick a fork in it, because its currently only half baked.
The feature I care most about isn’t there: significantly faster CPU, GPU, and more memory.
Ok, I just ordered a 3GS iPhone to try out. I’m currently a Verizon customer and I wanted to try out the phone. So what’s with all the stuff I’m reading that AT&T actually doesn’t have MMS for the iPhone yet? It is on the list above.

Its on the list with a footnote. ATT will support it “later this summer”.

It’s funny to know that with jailbreaking you can place a check next to every feature except compass for every iphone
Just like icebike wrote, it’s pretty hilarious that push notifications isn’t even on this list. Wasn’t that the big reason to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0?

Right on. It’s really only the new hardware (bigger, faster, stonger) I wouldn’t mind having. Right now, I’m sitting on stock 3.0 firmware on my 3G as I had a bit of a jailbreaking fiasco this Saturday. I will, however, be re-jailbreaking in the (hopefully) near future (as tools stabilize) as I just can’t stand having this bland boring phone.
LOL, where is the “hella-fast” checkbox under 3GS, fasters processors, more RAM, and new GPU are not even mentioned. Also, I think they added the shake to shuffle box because they wanted to put more checkboxes by the original iPhone.
There should be an AT&T column there too with MMS and tethering unchecked
What about push notifications… the three have em… this is clearly a manipulation.
i already upgrade new version but now i cannot access gsm network no network,than i re-install previus version but same pls let me know how to activate my iphone 3gs 16gb
