iPhone on Telus Canada Come November 5
Telus looks to be launching the iPhone along with their new GSM/HSPA network on November 5, 2009, with BGR reporting pricing that's pretty much spot on standard:
same as it is for Rogers (and Bell, for that matter) with the 3G going for $99.99/$599.99 and the 16 and 32GB 3GS going for $199.99/$699.99 and $299.99/$799.99.
And Telus has dropped their presser to make it all nice and official like.
So, any Canadians been waiting for their iPhone on Telus?

On Rogers when the 3G tower gets saturated I get bumped to Edge. What will happen on Telus?
Can I use iPhone from Rogers on Bell, if I change the SIM card. Is it that simple? or is the device locked to Rogers only?
^^ Pretty sure if you change the SIM card to a Bell SIM card it will work normally. The iPhone itself is only hardware.

One would think you would need to be capable of having EDGE and 3G in order to run a GSM Network to withstand the onslaught of GSM devices to come. I don't think they are just going to come out with 3G only devices, I am sure they will long EDGE based phones...

Changing sim card is NOT usually sufficient.
Most iPhones sold in North America are carrier locked, and not merely via a sim.

Wrong. The Bellus networks simply have a HSPA overlay, it is not a conversion to GSM. Therefore, there will be no EDGE backdrop in the event of a weak 3G signal.

So on Bell and Telus, it's either 3G or bust? If that's the case then why would anyone want to go with Bell or Telus for the iPhone instead of Rogers?

Bellus are claiming a better 3G network in terms of coverage, so dropping 3G signal shouldn't happen. But we will only know for sure when the networks roll out. People also might choose Bellus aside from the network, for customer service, pricing. Etc.
^ To my mind it's a network saturation issue, not necessarily a coverage issue. I would not feel comfortable relying solely on a 3G network (if Rogers is any indication of their stability, anyway).
I think the TIPB guys actually brought this up in one of the live podcasts as well.

Its a cell phone. If the unit is in a downtown area and drops more callls thank other places its probably due to interference rather than some dummy towers excuse. The rep on the phone was probably getting yelled at and made something up about why the phone was losing reception. If your phone has ever been dropped or gotten damp .. you cant tell whats gone wrong. Try turning your phone off once in a while. Powering it off and on is madatory for network communication.
