Apple Ships Magic Mouse Software Update -- But Still No Magic Mouse

Magic Mouse

Apple has made Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 available for both OS X 10.5 Leopard and OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard users eager to add the new multi-touch Magic Mouse to their existing system -- when they become available. That's right, outside of buying one of the brand new iMacs Apple released last week (which include the mouse and the update), you won't find hide nor hair of the new Magic Mouse either at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. They're still pending.

If you've already placed your order, however, or are staking out your local store in anticipation, at least you know Apple has you covered while you wait. (Though whether that means 10.6.2 isn't as close to shipping as we hoped is anyone's guess....)

For what it's worth, I had a chance to try a Magic Mouse out a few days ago and, yeah, I want it now as well.

    Thank god that is only the anti-theft cord and not actually a newly designed cord location. Think of the insanity... Standard wireless capabilities alas! {insert glorious choir music here!}

    Magic mouse??? Hahaha let me guess can you put that mouse in your a ss and still be able to controll ur comp??? That's ridiculous for the price they charge too.

  5. Al says:

    I played with one at the Apple Store the other day. It was alright, but it's so lightweight that it tends to slide around while you are trying to perform gestures. I prefer notching up the sensitivity on the trackball of my wireless mighty mouse and having that precise control rather than losing that tactile feedback. Unless you absolutely need a new mouse, this is probably not worth it. Also, when is Apple going to introduce a wireless mouse with an internal rechargeable battery? It could connect via 30-pin to charge so your iPhone cable could connect it to the computer while charging if you ever ran out of juice. That would be nice because it is a major pain when the mighty mouse runs out of power!
