Trillian

After a long time in limbo, fan favorite desktop Instant Messenger (IM) client Trillian [$4.99 - iTunes link] has finally (finally!) arrived for iPhone and iPod touch.

Features include AIM, ICQ, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk, tabbed chat windows, clean contact lists, killer connection management, instant cross-device sync (via Astra server), simultaneous sign-in, and "intelligent" push notification.

Confession: I've been podcasting, now I'm editing, so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but if you're giving it a go, please let us know your favorite features, pros and cons, and just in general -- what you think!

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

  1. RON JEREMY says:

    BOOM RON JEREMY 1st.

  2. RON JEREMY says:

RON SAYS now you can I. M. All your lamo freinds.

  3. ANT says:

    hmmmm interesting very interesting

  4. eTron says:

Does anybody even care anymore? They've fallen behind. Beejive and IM+ are much better for the iPhone. At one time Trillian was the sh*t, just not so much on the iPhone

  5. Freiteez says:

So where is meebo they showed off months ago?

  6. Unhappy says:

I've been waiting with baited breath for iTrillian, However I'm extremely disappointed with what they have released.

It seriously feels like a half finished application, ebuddy is capable of the same and more functions and it looks better and its totally free.

    • There is no Facebook chat
    • No options to turn on/off for sound/vibration notifications.
    • No sorting of friends (by name/etc) unless you group people.

Well there are no options to change at all except the logins for your accounts.

It doesnt show offline friends, online friends are just shown under a "ungrouped" tree unless you specify groups for each friend.

Really disappointed for a paid application, especially when I can get more out of a free application.

  7. frog says:

Seems well behind the other IM options already available.

  8. George DW says:

I'm excited by the ability to sync with desktop Trillian (provided this means syncing of chat logs, something I've been looking for a way to do), but from what I've heard it doesn't seem worth it to switch from Pidgin on desktop and Palringo on iPhone.

  9. Megarain says:

Its a shame. Trillian is really the only multi protocol app worth it in windows 7 right now, so I was looking forward to iPhone version. IM+, the app I use right now, has made some rather......annoying....moves lately. However, reading these comments, I fear that it is a waste of money.

Also. +1 for WHERE THE HELL IS MEEBO.

  10. Josh H says:

I wouldn't waste your time with this... spend the extra money and get the better application, BeejiveIM.

  11. Nes says:

This application is draining my battery. They really need to also take a look into this.

  12. MrJNorden says:

Trillian got a bad deal since they were delayed in the App store by 3 months. I'm sure they will update/add features once people actually use the app.

  13. Chesire says:

Trillian has always been a decent product. I've used it through many incarnations, although I'm not in love with this app... hope they debug it. Here's some other options from web apps http://m.seego.com/category/communication/instant-messaging

  14. PK says:

    @Unhappy (Comment #6):

To change all those settings you mentioned, go to your iPhone Home -> Settings -> Trillian. That's where you change settings, like all other apps.

  15. Unhappy says:

@PK Thanks, eBuddy has these settings in the application, so I was not aware of having to go into iphone settings since none of my other apps have options there.

Either way, the only thing that I can change there (which I had gripes with is sounds/vibration options).

I still cant see my offline contacts, nor does it have facebook chat, and my online contacts are under a "ungrouped" tree instead of just "Online" which looks untidy to me.

  16. Maniacfive says:

Looking at the screen shoota.... trillian is so very very colourful and mismatched looking. ick, it offends me!

  17. I, for one, love it and am glad that it's finally available. Hopefully it won't take 90 days for their bug fix (which they made shortly after submitting to the store) to be released and approved.
