Would love to see the 4th gen iPhone with more internal ram to allow multiple apps to run at the same time (such as listen to music while surfing the web). Would love to see higher quality camera for better pictures and HD video recording/playback capabilities. Would love to see this opened up to verizon, as At&t wireless seems to be getting worse with their cell signal.

@frog Yes! at&t can do it, but it'll be too much data being wasted just for video chats going on 24/7. And i'm very sure that the U.S. isn't the only unable to handle it easily. We aren't just ready for it yet. I'm not saing it will never happen! i'm just saying it's not that right move to move in the iPhone iChat in the market at the moment, especially in the U.S.! Maybe in the next year or two.

AT&T can certainly do it.

Verizon however, cannot - it's not a CDMA compatible technology.

So if the iChat video rumours persist, it may also put an end to the Verizon rumours --- we can't have both!

I hope they don't go to OLED displays. Might be real pretty in your parents' basement, but cell phones need a screen that works in sunlight. I'd rather see that next-gen LCD, from the patent that was mentioned previously.

thanks. Looks like that goes from HDTV to iPhone but going from iPhone to TV would be cool as well. You could basically view pics, videos, webpages, email, anything on your iPhone on a large HDTV. Just an idea.

Question for tech guys...

Could Apple make 4.0 so that iPhone wirelessly was able to display image on TV/monitor so you could use external monitor to view things on iPhone.

Just a thought on a cool new feature. I'm sure iPhone will eventually have A/V outs, but figured a wireless way to do that via a USB into TV might be cool.

Please someone point us to this European removable battery law; I don't want removable batteries (for the reasons mentioned above) but I agree Apple's almost certainly only going to manufacture one iPhone -- what is compelling them to allow removable batteries?

All fake fake fake! Since when did we ever hear koreans revealing iPhone specs! iChat camera? PLEASE. No cell phone company is even close to being ready for an iChat camera. Unless it'll be wiFi capable, which will be a big fail if you wanna iChat when and whereever you go. Removeable battery? You really think Apple would do these? Let alone, only for the europeans? They can make another version just for them as they did for China. OLED screen? Their screens are already good enough. They don't even save that much battery life. And it looks real bad in sunlight. Look at what happened to nexus one. Although, I can see a camera upgrade to 5 megapixels, and better camera/recorder options, and a better screen resolution. oh & HD? Hahahahaha.. No need. Apple is already HD! Oh, and verizon wireless?.. Not expecting any carrier movements until next year or 2012.

This Will Make My Decision MUCH CLEARER! I was Sold on The Nexus One until All the 3G problems with T-Mo. The next iPhone needs, A. either a snapdragon 1ghz or ARM Cortex A9 Multicore processor, B. 5mp or better auto focus camera with dual led flash and auto focus with hd video capture, C. Higher resolution screen. D. A bad a** graphics chip for gaming. This would crush the competition because the competition doesnt have APPLE OS.

God, please, NO REMOVABLE BATTERIES. It's not necessary for 99% of the population, AND it makes the structure of the phone unstable. Built-in batteries make the phone rigid and solid-feeling. Thank goodness Apple is going the route of non-replaceable batteries in all their products. In all of the phones I owned before the iPhone, not once did I ever remove a battery.

Can't see a removeable battery, and it's not something I'd want. A dual-core processor would be a hoot, snapdragon who? Especially if used well - only games/video use the second core, everything else uses one to save battery?

If they have iChat, it needs to be device/user specific - just like BBM.

If it's just a glorified AIM client, I see no use in it personally.

The main things I am hoping for are better screen resolution, amoled screen, maybe better camera. Processor is already not half bad, and even ram is decent. Do upgrade them, but the thing that needs the most work is the screen.

An ARM Cortex A9 CPU looks to be on the cards, and a PowerVR SGX54 GPU would make an excelled pairing for an iPhone HD.

The Cortex A9 has been shown on various videos online only slightly trailing an Atom CPU running Windows. That's more than ample power for iPhone OS.

iPhone will likely not be required to have a removable battery in Europe. The directive reads as follows:

"There are exemptions from this requirement where “for safety, performance, medical or data integrity reasons, continuity of power supply is necessary and requires a permanent connection”. Under these circumstances, the battery can be built in to the product so that its removal is difficult.

Folks, this is hardware speculation. Apple has proven time and time again that a fully integrated device (read hardware AND software) and ecosystem (iTunes, MobileMe, Push Notifications) are where they can differentiate from the competition. While having this on the next generation device would be wonderful, I'm more looking forward to seeing where they take the UI and other software elements of their platform.

if apple wants to continue to dominate the market, they need to do a few things. 1) not only match the specs of competing phones, but surpass them, they've always been able to do this. 2) i dont know much about the European battery thing, but that's huge, and global uniform manufacturing is crucial to keeping costs low, so i think we might see removable batteries, as much as i dont want to see it.

as for the early release, i don't really think it's an issue, the droid never REALLY took off, and the nexus one has a ridiculous marketing campaign (non-existent). On top of the fact apple rarely changes product cycles.

well i think there will be removable batteries because from now on nobody can sell unremovable phone batteries in europe , because of the new law so i expext removable batteries unless they dont want to sell it on the european market

....and....... given the competition of late, I'm betting Apple's June/July schedule doesn't hold this year. More than likely you'll see an earlier release to take the steam out of the Droid/Nexus nonsense. My prediction- look for a late Feb/ early March 4.0 software/hardware release announced at this month's event.
