Geodelic for iPhone

Geodelic [Free - iTunes link] is a location-based discovery app for the iPhone that knows where you are and uses that information to recommend points-of-interest such as restaurants, stores, and shows.

I had the pleasure of watching their show-stealing presentation at CES 2010's Mobile Apps Showdown last week, and based on the amount of energy and creativity they put into that alone, I'm really eager to try this out and see how it develops.

If you are as well, grab the free download and let us know how it works for you!

Is RAM the Thing That Will Dictate iPhone 4.0 Multitasking?

Nice user interface but it's database sucked. It would only bring up restaurants and businesses less than a mile away with no way to expand to a larger area. It only showed about half the restaurants compared to 'Around Me'. Some that it listed had been closed for over 10 years and been replaced with many others that failed. It has the name of the grill there now with the same address so there are duplicates. One pizza place closed 3 years ago and opened up last summer under a different name, both are listed for the same address. It shows businesses operating at my neighbor's home addresses in a residential subdivision like storage businesses or clinics which aren't there. Can't trust this at all. Back to the drawing board guys.

Very nice app. Tried it out and it was able to give me restaurants within walking distance. Isn't Google trying to implement something similar to the iPhones Google Maps app?

  3. fassy says:

    @MrAnonymous

Google has something similar (and, dare I say, better) on the Android maps app; when (whether?) it comes to us via the iPhone Maps app is anybody's guess. I would assume that is up to Apple, as Google clearly wants to pitch to iPhone eyeballs and has the back end ready to go.

doesn't seem to work in uk...

I really like this app! Introduces me to many places around my location and also allows me to get reviews and feedback for them.

  6. Mark says:

I downloaded Geodelic on my iPhone and use it for almost everything as far as search and discovering my surroundings in an area unknown to me and familiar. I came across an awesome Thai restaraunt that was literally blocks from my house that I had never been before. I dig Geodelic!

I love this app. It worked like a charm...no problems at all. It loaded super fast and was toatlly accurate here in NYC where there are hundreds of stores and cafes right on top of each other. ALSO, you can easily GO TO another location using the GO TO button. I not sure what Mike's talking about but, I like this app and have passed it along to my facebook and twitter following.

  8. Christopher cox says:

@Mike: I can't speak for the old locations problem, but as far as expanding passed a mile ... It says directly in the description it shows you everything nearby. It does exactly what it says it will do and does it well. If you need A search tool, use the maps app.

  9. Anonymous says:

I downloaded this app and think it's great. It's especially helpful in New York. I haven't had any problems with it, and I've told several friends they should get it, too.

  10. Chi-town says:

This app is AMAZING!!!! I used it when I was visiting relatives in Florida. In just seconds, I found out where the nearest car wash, book store, and bank was. No painstaking research was necessary and I got to all my destinations within minutes. Hands down the most useful app I've downloaded since I got my iPhone.

  11. icebike says:

Yawn. Around Me has a much deeper listing and even customer reviews. Urbanspoon too (in some areas).

Seriously, folks, this has been done to death.

  12. FUNFLYN says:

This App Rocks! Even in a small town it pulls up all of the best locations around. Love it!

  13. Mike says:

Tried another search, this time for bars & nightclubs. Three of the first five listings had the same exact tavern name at 3 different residential suburban addresses. Single family homes! Right. Results can't be trusted.

The Around Me app is much more reliable and been around for over a year.

  14. Claire says:

No points of interest in Europe ?! I agree with Mike, as long as the database is empty or inaccurate this application is useless. See AroundMe/Locly/TellMeWhere if you can't wait...

  15. mantzm says:

Does not work well in my area. Very few points of interest.

  16. memyselfnI says:

pretty cool. i went to the page for my bank (citi bank) and just for fun i tried pressing the thumbs up...the next time i searched for banks the citi banks were all in front. basic but i'm sure this will get better over time?

  17. Charlie says:

I find Geodelic to be aesthically pleasing, interactive, as well as useful in everyday discovery. When I am out of town on business it is a great help in getting me custom to my surroundings based on my likes and location very quickly.
