UPDATED: TiPb heard back from the developer, and sure enough, it's their app 4.0, nothing to do with iPhone OS 4.0. Move along. Notiong to see here...

CNET is reporting, and others are picking up, that a developer sent them a note saying:

"Just wanted to give you a heads up that we've submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software."

Well, TiPb got a note from a developer worded exactly the same way:

I've sent you some news about [redacted] before, but just wanted to give you a heads up that we've submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software.

However, we also got a personal note from the developer that read:

We just released [redacted] 4.0 for iPhone.

And if you follow the link to their blog:

[Redacted] 4.0 has been released!

TiPb feels there's a strong chance we will indeed see the first iPhone 4.0 beta soon, perhaps at Apple's rumored January 27th event, and while this could be a "leak", it looks to us like it could just as easily have been a wrongly worded press mailing. It's not their application for iPhone 4.0, it's version 4.0 of their application for the current iPhone OS.

What do you think?

  1. Chrisr says:

I hope so. I want to see what the new update entails

  2. Arti says:

Will iPhone 4.0 finally do something about the absolutely retarded way the iPhone handles turning on/off Bluetooth and WiFi? Having to go into all these menu screens every time I go into/leave my car or office or home for the different settings is really tedious, and keeping everything on all the time murders the battery and floods you with connectivity alterts. Fix this already.

  3. dryland says:

Jailbreak is the best solution for this Arti. Apple makes a great product, but until it begins to take notes from the jailbreak community, it will always be lacking.

Unless 4.0 implements some of he jailbreak tools, I can't see it being anything but lackluster. If it's released soon, it's going to take something big to update and lose my perfectly jailbroken iPhone. Heck, I didn't upgrade to 3.1 until last night because of the minimal updates. MobileMe gallery pushed me over the edge.

All in all, I can't wait to see what Apple has in store.

  4. Mcdoobie says:

I share your sentiments about that and responding to texts when in another app such as Safari. Why not implement a BiteSMS (jailbreak app) type response field? That'd be glorious.

  5. tobiCOM says:

Hope so, cant wait to get 4.0!!

  6. Lady Kaede says:

Well, 4.0 has obviously not 'been released'. Even if 4.0 will be announced by Apple on Jan. 26 or 27, wouldn't that signal the release of the SDK, so that apps specifically designed for 4.0 would not be available pre-announcement? This is sound and fury siginifying nothing.

  7. Christian says:

I can't wait to see what they have in store for us this time...it's like Christmas all over!!!!

3.0 was good, especialy cause of A2DP..... 4.0 should be that much better.

  8. websyndicate says:

I love that everybody wants 4.0 but doesnt know what it has to come. Its not like they gave us a roadmap. Freaking fanboys

  9. Tansen says:

4.0 is bound to have plenty of UI upgrades, otherwise they'd just make it 3.2 or 3.3, theoretically. 4.0 will probably have easier to access menus, probably multitasking to some extent, and HOPEFULLY support for higher resolutions. My main complaint about this iphone AND it's OS is the screen resolution. Everything is great but that.

  10. websyndicate says:

@Tansen Agree yes it might have some updates but lets look at it this way since 1.0 the iphone screens have look basically the same. Very little UI change right?

  11. Gregz0r says:

@websyndicate: That's because they were busy maturing the OS. Now that most of the main wishes have been sorted, hopefully Apple can move on to improving the UI. 4.0 is OBVIOUSLY goingto have major improvements, so looking forward to it us a given. You don't have to be a deluded fanboy to realize that.
