Fox News: iTablet, iPhone 4.0, iLife 2010 Focus of Apple Jan 27 "Come see our latest creation" Event
Fox News, which originally predicted a media-focused Jan. 26 event, is back to say Apple's now-Jan. 27 "Come see our latest creation" will focus on the iTablet, iPhone 4.0 operating system (no hardware), and iLife 2010.
iTablet/iSlate/iWhatever makes the kind of sense that does. The hype is so loud you can hear it in space. What it is remains a mystery, but if Apple wasn't going to show it off, we'd expect a leak or PR blurb hinting they weren't to shape expectations.
iPhone 4.0 we would have expected to see in March like iPhone 2.0 and iPhone 3.0, but showing it off in January like iPhone 1.0 could give developers more time to make their apps iTablet -- and/or iPhone HD -- compatible. Likewise, if there are any other major changes/enhancements under the covers.
iLife 2010 is a bit of a mystery. We've heard iWork 2010 might be going multitouch for the iTablet (and hoped for the iPhone as well), but all we've heard about iLife is that iDVD might become an iTunes LP/iTunes Extras development interface (DVDs being passe in the Apple-verse, of course). Could they also go multitouch?
So, nothing we didn't expect, but a lot more to get us excited. What do you want most?
[Thanks everyone who sent this in!]

First!
it look like iLife 2010 to me - from that poster
I'm really hoping for iWork on the iPhone. And a documents folder to go with it. That would be super useful if I could edit papers, presentations and such on my phone while I'm on the go or at rehearsal and such without toting my mbp.
I would love them to announce the iPhone 4.0 software early. It makes sense so developers have time to make their apps iPhone and itablet compliant. The itablet better wow us because I can't see the need for a large flat computer unless they make something ingenious that wows us.
Agreeing with Tworth23. It better be "WOW!" because if it's $899 for a PoC. You're better off saving another $400 and getting a Macbook Pro.
iPhone 4.0, that's what I really want to see
i think im most excited to see the tablet, and 4.0. I would really LOOOOOVE to see the 4gen iphone, but if i can atleast get a sneak peak at 4.0, ill be happy enough
(and we might be able to determine some of the hardware specs of the 4gen iphone by some of the features of 4.0... like ichat maybe for a front facing camera)
I want to see refreshed Iphone hardware, with higher resolution screen and faster processors. Verizon would be a plus as well, but not holding my breath for that.
I don't think this will have anything to do with laptops or laptop functionality.
It will be hilarious if after all this hype no iTablet appears at the event.
New hardware for iPhone would be nice! Hope 4.0 has a proper upgrade not just minor stuff
They won't present new iPhone hardware in January, not a chance
@Rene Ritchie
So this is confirmed or what? Just some rumors again or true? I know the event is confirmed but are the 3 things confirmed to-be-said?
iPhone 4.0 software will make me very happy, especially if it's available right away! I don't have the budget for any other goodies, so anything else is really just gravy for me, but I'm expecting enough gravy to swim in! I hope Apple doesn't disappoint!
Uh....MacBook Pro refresh please. My G4 PB needs replaced and I need an i5 or i7 processor. I don't care about a tablet at this point unless it is outstanding of course
Yes.... What good would a tablet be if it did not support the mac osx. If the tablet ran iPhone and mac osx simultaneously, that would be something I would be into. But a flat tablet?? How would we type on a large screen that we can't hold properly like an iPhone and can't lay down like a laptop??
iPhone 4.0. It might hint at what the hardware will have
Hopefully 4.0 will have Bluetooth 3.0...
The lag on the current bluetooth spec coupled with the noticeable reduction in sound quality make pretty much anything besides listening to podcasts a painful experience.
Or you are using crap headphones
I have a funny feeling that Apple will disappoint with this one for some reason. Hopefully they prove me wrong, cant wait to see what iPhone 4.0 has in store though.
A new notification system. I feel like that's the biggeset gripe people have with the current os. This should be what apple "reinvints" in 4.0
I would love if 4.0 had some more business features. Ability to store and possibly edit documents, ability to attach documents to email, multiple signatures for multiple email accounts. Multitasking is a must, and the messaging app needs a rework. Stupid that I have to close whatever I am doing just to respond to a text message.
So if we get 4.0 in march , and a new hardware in June, they'll update again ?
@antonio
I'm using the Motorola MOTOROKR S305 headphones. Not exactly crap.
I wonder if Apple plans to make this tablet the new business tool and keep the iPhone game-oriented. That would be disappointing. I just don't see document handling in the short term for the iPhone. It may be the elegant social/gaming/travel/internet tool to the powers that be...and not intended for business application.
Giant server farms in NC, iPhone OS update delayed, fingerworks.com disappears, new gesture based iWorks?
Check this out: http://www.ted.com/talks/richardbaraniukonopensource_learning.html
Or from iPhone, search iTunes for 'TEDtalks (audio)' episode 41, entitled "Goodbye textbooks..."
@spicerak2 would be very dissapointing. I think they could implement those features and gain some business customers without losing the young and hip image that apple seems to be so focused on.
Ok, iTablet/iSlate will definately be announced, along with iPhone OS 4.0. The device will probably be running OS 4.0, so will have access to the entire App Store. It will be tightly integrated with the iPhone/iTouch and will further entrench this ecosystem - iPhones will help sell iSlates, and iSlates will help sell iPhones. And more and better apps get designed for both devices. This is brilliant leveraging of the App Store to generate even more sales.
Publishing and education will be the two major themes used to present the iSlate.
As John Gruber said, there will be no camera on the device, because the camera is already on the iPhone, and it will be very tightly integrated to the device such that pictures and video will be streamed to and recorded by the device. No physical cords to connect the two devices.
I'm guessing that the iTouch's 3MP camera was pulled from the last iTouch at the last minute to keep prices down and more importantly because they had decided it would be closely tied to the iSlate, and a 3MP camera simply would not be adequate for the iSlate's much higher resolution. So, the next iTouch may be announced with the same 5MP camera slated for the next iPhone.
No OLED screen for iSlate to keep costs down. Maybe on new iTouch/iPhone, but only if costs are held low and it really improves display quality and extends battery life.
...and yes, it will have a gyroscope.
