Square-Enix has been quite busy developing for the iPhone/iPod touch with the recent release of both Final Fantasy 1 and 2, and now Chaos Rings.

Make no mistake, this is no Final Fantasy but if you love turn-based battles it does look very promising. No official release date or price has been mentioned but we will be sure to fill you in on the details as they are released.

Check out the full trailer after the break and let us know what you think!

    Oh, HELL YES!

  2. zeagus says:

I am so buying this the second it's out. Anyone play through FF1/2 yet? I held off, but my resolve is weakening :)

  3. Johnny says:

Still waiting on a Dragon Quest app from SquareEnix.

  4. Keith says:

The graphics and animation seem a little weak. Combat seems a little redundant too. It mostly made the same sound every "strike" and I didn't see much variation in the style of moves.

If it's not too expensive I'd buy it but I wouldn't pay $10 for it.

  5. Dyvim says:

Sweet! I'm still working my way through FF1 and loving the retro action. Hope they port more of their back catalog (such as Secret of Mana) too. And an iPad version!

  6. Adam says:

This looks amazing. I'm just a little worried about the performance based on the trailer. It definitely won't do well on iPhone 2G models.

  7. Adam says:

    holy crap...

Looks like FF8 .. which was my fav. I prefer the turn based battles rather than the newer live battles they have for ff11 etc.

    Looks great

  8. Ajr says:

I'm really looking forward to a Final Fantast Tatics port. I know Song Summoner is a tatical turned based game but the lack of job switching is a turn off.

I also would love a port of FF 6, released in the U.S. as FF 3 on SNES. By far my favorite old school FF game.

If both of these games have a version for the iPhone I'll never get any work done.

  9. John Oates says:

I can't wait. I didn't get the ff1 or ff2 ports since I've beaten them multiple times and beat them recently on DS. This one looks new and I'm ready for it. It may be a while before the English translation is ready...

I could never really wrap my head around RPG's. Could someone enlighten me about what makes them so compeling, compared to say and action game?

Rpg=chess action=checkers one you just pick up and play. The other takes thought. I'm not bashing action games as for they are my preference mostly. But that is how I liken the the two diff genera.

  12. ajr says:

For me it has always been the character progression and strategy to create the most effective 'party' that has gotten my attraction.

Action and action rpg have some progression/skill development but they only scratch the surface in my opinion.

  13. Ddx says:

Looks interesting, if the story is worth a damn and there is a good battle/character progression system then I'll buy it...

Speaking of Final Fantasy, I just picked up XIII today and I must say while it's different I definitely am enjoying it, just hit the 2nd disc

  14. Spiel says:

    Awesome story, soundtrack, gameplay...

    Best iphone game ever.
