TiPb Apps 6.1: Panda Hero for iPhone (GDC 2010)

Live from GDC 2010 Rene talks to Jodi and Jacques Ropert of Barefoot Explorers about their upcoming iPhone game, Panda Hero.
Scheduled to hit the App Store this spring, in addition to maze-style adventure and pets-style casual gameplay, Panda Hero packs an environmentally conscious message into all those great graphics -- Barefoot Explorers will plant three (3) actual, real, live trees on behalf of players for each download of the game.
Check out the video below for details and a look at the beta version of the game.

Its good to see a company creating an app that is geared towards the younger crowd. And good for the environment too!
I think this is a great concept and very fun for kids! By rewarding kids for being kind to their environment, hopefully this game can help to foster pro-conservation sentiments among tech-savvy children. As for the whole tree planting thing, I can't help but be just a little skeptical with respect to following through on that, but if they do, that would also be fantastic.
Seems interesting. Might look into it more.
Is it Panda Hero or Panda Explorers?
I love this kind of adventure game. Takes you back to the simplicity of Super Mario with the collection of coins, etc... even though it is much more complex and dynamic than that. A wonderful fusion of technology and environmentalism. Definitely the direction more people need to go.
Is it an iPhone 3GS in the pic/video? I liked the case, is it silicon (soft case)? What's the brand/model, please? Thanks in advance
Hi - thanks so much for the comments! this is Jodi from Barefoot Explorers (the company behind Panda Hero). Regarding the tree planting, we are very committed to planting the trees and will be keeping track of how many trees we have planted on our website as well as in the game. Also FYI we have a facebook site now - http://www.facebook.com/pandahero - if you want to stay connected! Panda Hero should be available early April!! Thanks for your support:-)
I love what our daughter Jodi, and husband, Jacques have created! It is exciting, challenging,educational, and certainly a happy game. Panda Hero also, has delightful venues, where the pandas can be seen, rollicking and playing, or struggling to eradicate.the dangerous threats of the "bad guys". Planting a tree for every time the game is played, can teach the kids how very important it is to plant, nurture, and protect their trees. It could definitely help educate them about the need for everyone on our planet to not only nurture the trees in safe havens, but also protect those that are almost extinct., or compromised. I do believe the kids can realize that trees and plants give us so much....fruit, maple syrup, shade, herbs, carbon dioxide and old tires and swings and a cooler, more beautiful world.....just to mention a few gifts!!
@lfom:
Hey just a quick line, to answer Ifom about the (soft case) got it at office depot 3 for $10 or so.
enjoy...
Oi! The long-awaited game has finally come out! I can't wait to get this and starve one of pandas and overfeed the other X D!
Oh, nice case. oh wait...
Pia doesn't have staying power? Aren't you being a bit premature with that? Her album is going to be released this summer. She has been working with some of the biggest producers in the business.
Um, is this video really on autoplay? Apologies to readers.
