  1. Lady Kaede says:

Well, I would like to hear how you think this book-pricing thing is going to shake out. I posted my take (exactly why Amazon's screwed) as a comment to the $9.99 story below. Am I right? By laeving the price up to the publisher, but requiring that the book not be sold elsewhere for less, did Apple just kill Amazon's business model (where Amazon got to set the prices)? Can Amazon even stage a price war? (will publishers let them)? And can anyone even win a price war avaunt a company with $40 billion in the bank?

  2. Orangensaft says:

@Lady Kaede: You ask many questions. In general, I believe Apple will do whatever they can to get the prices down as most reasonably possible so that consumers will actually want to buy iBooks. It's almost as if they are balancing the triad of low price, assuaging the publishers' concerns, and maintaining a top-notch earnings margin for themselves as the gatekeeper and iBookstore operator.
