Steve Jobs with iPad on Chair

UPDATE: Add this gem to the list, in response to an (admittedly overboard) customer complaint from Switzerland that accused Steve Jobs of "deliberately pulling the wool over the rest of the worlds [sic] eyes."

Are you nuts? We are doing the best we can. We need enough units to have a responsible and great launch.

ORIGINAL: We're running out of clever things to say about Steve Jobs' recent passion for taking over customer support at Apple, so we'll just pass along his latest missives about the iPad 3G and its shipping status, US and international. The first one is fairly clear:

will there also be 3G models of the iPad released worldwide on the end of may or only the wifi models. Would be nice to know. Can't wait.

Job's answer:

Both models will be released at the end of May. Sorry for the delay

A question from iCuckoo Push [$0.99 - iTunes link] developer Manuel is where it gets trickier:

will the iPad 3G models still ship on time as planned (end of April) in the US, if I order one today? Or will the 3G US orders be postponed as well?

The response:

Yes.

Sent from my iPhone

Um, yes to the on time or yes to the postponed? Need. More. Words!

How desperate people print from their iPad
  1. HZC says:

"Will the iPad 3G models still ship on time as planned (end of April) in the US, if I order one today? Or will the 3G US orders be postponed as well?"

AFAIK, there IS NO delay in the U.S., only internationally, so I think the U.S. is still on schedule. My feeling is that they have already "changed gears" and are now manufacturing the 3G models. The wi-fi models which have already been manufactured and were intended for the international debut are now going to be sold in the U.S.. Then they'll start manufacturing the next batch of wifi-only models for the international debut. This is just my guess.

  2. ShevonJames says:

    3g US Models late April

Wifi and 3G Models internationally in May

  3. iPaladin says:

The US iPad will ship in late April like planned.

  4. Michael says:

It is officially mid-April. What day marks the start of "late-April?"

  5. Guinness0514 says:

When I saw this post and read 3G was pushed til may...I threw up in my mouth a little...I hope you guys are right... sigh

  6. HungWell says:

Steve Jobs' email responses remind me of a line from the movie "Arthur" where the butler says to the prostitute: "I look forward to your next syllable with great eagerness".

On a related note, what the {bleep} is Steve Jobs' email address that's getting these responses?

  7. SheiknetChris says:

I don't know about you, but I pre-ordered the 3G iPad on Tuesday for my dad. They charged my account yesterday!

Then I get this fun email: "To ensure that all customers are given equal opportunity to acquire this product we have limited the amount available per customer. Therefore, this order has been cancelled."

'Lucky' for me, they haven't credited my account yet. Time for a delightful round of "Phone Tag". Anybody else with pre-order stories out there?

  8. Sheikisadouche says:

That charge is an authorization. It drops off after few days and then your charged again as an actual debit once it ships. I preordered the 3G weeks ago and still nothing.

  9. Brian says:

I got my wifi only ipad on April 3rd. Pre-ordered a 32gb 3G version earlier this week, two days later called in to switch the order for the 64gb 3G version. They cancelled out the 32gb issued a new order for the 64gb one. Today I got an email that they had cancelled my order to ensure other people can get an opportunity to get an ipad. Apple's system is thinking I ordered 3. I had to call today to explain for a half an hour my situation and they allowed me to order the 64gb again and they said they have to monitor my order to try to prevent this from being canceled again. This is Apple I am dealing with isn't it. One would think with all there amazing magical devices they would have a better system in place to prevent this situation happening to customers dropping $900 on a ipad.

  10. Pat says:

I ordered the 3g model and just spoke with customer service. Apple customer service is awsome!!! First thing she did was give me her phone number just in case I lost the connection, gosh I wish everyone would do that. I wanted to add mobile me to my order. she put me on hold for all of 30 seconds and presto added it to my order. I couldn't be happier with the sevice I walays receive from apple.

  11. icebike says:

And don't try to buy one here and take it overseas.

Israel customs is seizing them at the boarder because they all use US standards for Wifi which is not legal tjere.

  12. rocky says:

is ipad with wifi 120GB possible? i saw in blingblingtronics.com

  13. SLPAGE says:

The IPad 3G status changed tonight from "Standard Shipping" to "Priority". Still now charge to the credit card though.

  14. SLPAGE says:

I should have said "my" IPad 3G status...

  15. On what date does late April start and how come no year is specified? I have one on order and it simply says "late April" for the shipment date.

  16. Mike says:

I emailed Steve Jobs and he actually answered!! I asked if I would still receive my ipad in April. His response "yep"

  17. Thanks for writing this article.Good to know some good insight about ipad.
