Quick Review and give-away: Polyhedra XL for iPad
Polyhedra XL [$2.99 - iTunes link] is a fun little game that involves creating shapes and avoiding obstacles as you fill the screen. The graphics are beautiful and while the beginning levels are simple enough for a child, they progress to be challenging for an adult.
The goal of Polyhedra XL is simple: create enough shapes to fill up 66% of the screen.
To create a shape, just hold your finger down on the screen. The longer you hold, the larger your shape becomes. The challenge is that there are enemies bouncing around the screen that will pop your inflating shape when they make contact. Once your shape becomes solid, however, the enemies will bounce right off. Rotating the screen will cause your shapes to be affected by "gravity" and you can use this to your advantage to trap enemies.
Polyhedra XL also features a "Toy Box" mode where you can just create shapes, admire the graphics, and relax. I imagine this mode would be great for kids.
I have really enjoyed playing Polyhedra XL and applaud Binary Hammer for creating such a simple, challenging, and beautiful game.
Now for the giveaway! Binary Hammer has kindly provided us with 3 promo codes to give to you. Let us know why you'd like to have Polyhedra XL on your iPad, and we'll randomly choose 3 winners. Contest begins now and ends Sunday, May 9th at 12pm PST. ( Unfortunately, a US iTunes account is required to enter. Apple's rule, not ours!)
Screen shots and video after the break!

I would like this game because it is simply awesome. Sorta like a 2010 Tempest, but different.
I love playing the new games on the iPad. There is so much more real estate to see and use. It really takes it another level. I'd love to try this game out.
I literally just bought an iPad and found this awesome site to check out information on...why not make it three awesome things and win something too!
Looks awesome!
I want it becuase it looks like a great ipad game.
I'd like this because it looks like something my daughter could play with. She's been infatuated with my iPad since I got it, but there aren't many games she can play on it which frustrates her. It'd be fun to give her a shot with the toy box mode on this game. Plus, I'd enjoy playing it too.
I'd love to win this because it'll be a great way to quiet down my kids in the backseat of our minivan
Just got and iPad and discovered this site. Polyhedra is exactly the kind of game I end up wasting hours on so I'd love to play!
Thanks for the review. Leanna, could I make a couple suggestions for future reviews? 1. set the iPad down on a stand so it's not moving around and so you have both hands free 2. show the game first, then show menus and options later (cut to the chase quicker)
I'd like to win this so you can attempt to convince me why I want games on my iPad. I'm not sold so far, but I'm giving you an opportunity to convince me...
I'd love to have this game because it uses the characteristics and abilities of the platform to their fullest advantage. My fiancé is crazy about this very type of game.
No lie though, I'll probably just buy it anyway to support BH. I bet XL is even more fun than the iPhone version.
Ever since the podcast the other night when you very quickly noted you were reviewing the app I was excited to see the review and your thoughts!
I want the app just to play with it. I can tell you that my 18 month old would probably get a blast out of it for sure!
I'd love to win this game because Polyhedra XL looks it's fun and the type of game that my wife and kids would like too.
It looks to be a nice addictive game for the iPad. I would love to try it.
@SeattleBrad
Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately, I don't have a stand for my iPad yet, but I do plan to set it down and use tripod from now on. I used a tripod this time but felt the need to hold it in my hands to show how "gravity" affects the shapes when rotating. Sorry about the times when some of the screen was out of view
Oh, and I like the idea of showing the game first, then menus. I'll do that from now on.
Still getting the hang of this whole video review thing!
Would love to try this game out... Looks awesome and I am done with tanagrams... Looks like it would be even more fun than that!!! Ipad games rock!!!!
I would like this because it looks challenging and like a game where it takes more than just shooting something or someone. It actually looks like a fun brain excercise and a fun unique game!
This is a great game on the iPhone, so I would love to be able to play it on an iPad.
I have so many iPhone games that look terrible on iPad. This would help me change that!
I'd like to have this game for parties!
This app is beautiful! I would like this app to show off how well the iPad displays video content. Plus, my little brother would love this. He is at the age where he is learning shapes and this could be a great way to teach him shapes in an interactive way. Plus with a name like polyhedra, who wouldn't want this?
This seems like a really fun pick-up-and-play game that would look great on my iPad.
Looks like an interesting concept. I'd love to check it out.
Honest answer: After your review and watching the video, I want this game. It looks like a great time waster and a lot of fun. I don't want to pay $3 for it, even though it is worth it. I like to win things
And if it helps... GO CANADA!
I love this game on the iPhone and will love it on the iPad.
I would like to win this game so that I can gloat about it to friends. I would shout "In Your Face, In Your Face!" Then I would play the game, and it would keep me company when all of my friends abandoned me because I was acting like such an insufferable jerk.
Also, it looks fun.
I loved the old Atari game Qix. This is far more interesting than the weak attempts at Qix clones for the iPad & iPhone. Probably because Qix really needs a joystick, not touch, while this exploits touch so well.
I'd like this game because when I'm on the pot, this looks like the perfect game that would take the exact amount of time I need before my legs fall asleep.
ITS CALLED UNIVERSAL APPLICATIONS! YOU KNOW THE ONES THAT LET THE PEOPLE THAT ALREADY BOUGHT IT NOT HAVE TO BUY IT AGAIN FOR A DIFFERENT DEVICE!
