Comcast demos Xfinity Remote app for iPad
Today Comcast demoed Xfinity Remote, a prototype of a web-based remote control that aims to extend their interactive programming guide to many IP-enabled devices such as an iPad. Unlike their current sub par iPhone application [iTunes Link - Free] this application allows Comcast subscribers to have full control over cable boxes.
"The Xfinity Remote, which Brian Roberts demoed today on an iPad at the NCTA show, enables you to search for your favorite shows and movies on television and video on demand, change the channel on your cable box right from your iPad, and set your DVR remotely."
Comcast also mentions the app will allow for integration into social networks and allow for chatting live while watching a show or send invites to friends to watch programming at the same time.
The Xfinity Remote should be free when in lands into the App Store and while no release date has been given, Comcast promises we will see it before the end of the year.
Video after the break!

The DirecTV iPhone app is pretty cool. I hope they cone out with one for the ipad!
And where is the Playstation 3 remote control app?
Nothing beats my Dish VIP 922 plus the dish remote access app. Not only can you check your channels and guide and set up DVRs with your iPhone/iPad , but you can watch any of your channels on your iPhone/iPad.
Dish Network sucks. Uverse is where it's at. Even Direct TV is nice.
Gregg give me some good reasons why Dishnetwork sucks ,!?! Cause they're ahead of the competition. Largest HD lineup offer. Plus giving you the most advanced DVR with 1 TerraByte HDD , with ability to check , change and watch your channels on any computer or mobile phone , plus being able to use the same reciever to get online , browse YouTube or simply stream your media from your home network.
Guess they do suck
Finally the iPad can do something cool. I hope this makes it to my iPhone.
I want this. I guess I'll have to get an ipad first.
Would this work on the iphone too then?
He demoed it at MAD MONEY / JIM CRAMER
There're many cool and nice Ed Hardy iPad Case arrive at Ed Hardy Times Online Store, find a case to protect your ipad just visit http://www.donedhardyonlinestore.com now!
That is so lame! It hardly offers "full control of your DVR" as you state. It offers you the ability to change the channel of record the show. How about real control like managing series recordings or managing the list of shows on your DVR to do things like delete shows? In other words, everything you could do using their remote. How about being able to watch Comcast On Demand shows on your iPad, like you currently can from your computer!
Also, the Comcast dork mentions how great it is to have a keyboard, the "missing link"...what a joke"! The missing link isn't missing a keyboard, it's the search algorithm that they use. It's idiotic that you'll never find the show unless you know the exact title. Searching on "Apple" will show "Apple of my Eye" but not "All About Apple" or a show called "Tech Center" whose description says "Apple's Rise to Glory".
So they take a broken-as-designed system and offer partial functionality through the iPad.
