There's the poll and here's the question: are you getting an iPhone 4? Is it enough to make you upgrade from your current iPhone? Enough to make you switch (back) from another platform? Vote above and give us the details in the comments!

First! In line to get one that is...
I'm in that every other device upgrade cycle. Didn't upgrade to an iPhone until 3G became available and bypassed 3GS. ATT won't have a mature 4G network available until my next upgrade cycle so this works out for me.
If they'd let me combine upgrade eligibility with a gift card, yes. If not, can't afford to.
I'm so done with my 3G! I love the thing but not for too much longer. Apple didn't introduce too much we didn't already know about iPhone 4, but I'm glad that all the rumors were true!
I am actually going from my favorite, white, to the black. With the silver outer edge on the new phone, the white is not as clean in my eyes.
Looking forward to it.
Really, really wanted a 64G iphone and had my money ready. Not interested in video calling, happy enough with the present display. Expect I'll stay with the 3GS now
My fault for getting my hopes up, but I refuse to switch to AT&T. I was just putting off an upgrade on Verizon until I they announced, or in fact didn't announce, that the iPhone was going to be released from the clutches of AT&T. Android it is.
Now if there was a 64GB version, I'd be ecstatic.
That said, I was going to give my wife the GS and buy an iPhone 4 for me, but with this FaceTime goodie, I might just update my GS (with the $18 upgrade fee offered me) and buy her a new iPhone 4 so we can use this new feature. Very nice.
Can't commit to another 2 years with at&t. I'll wait and see if Verizon or Sprint gets it down the line.
I totally agree with sfwrtr. I am bummed there is no 64GB version.
That was the linchpin to pass on my 32 3GS--I only have 2GB of space on it and can't fit all of the eps from my Firefly DVDs on it!
Guess it is time to clean up, anyway. I'd like to squeeze the Serenity movie on there too...
:-\
no 64 GB so they could give you a bigger battery. As far as Verizon is concerned I am out of there. I have been with Verizon since they were air touch .Horrible customer service. To each his own hello new iphone
I don't knw what to do....the EVO can video chat fr anywhere even on 3g
Man I will be pre-ordering the 15th at 12am. Then I will be gettin' my new iPhone4 on the 24th. Then, I'll be loving the hell out of it, as I'm impatiently waiting for it to be jailbroken. Yes, June/July will be great months indeed. for me at least
Lack of multitasking is increasingly disappointing. I plan to get one, but if they bring out a 64GB version with multitasking in November, I'll be very upset.
@Ron Um, I'm not sure what you were smoking, but iPhone 4.0 does run multiple apps at the same time. Have a couple of cups of coffee and watch the intro video again.
iPhone 4 does sound appealing, but I may wait until my Rogers contract expires next year before upgrading.
Hell yeah I'll be getting one as soon as they drop in Canada. I guess I have an extra month to save but damn the features make my head spin. I'm itching to get one, it has way more WOW factor than 3G or 3Gs ever did I think.
@mrcre8tiv I haven't watched the video yet. I need to do that. I assumed the total media silence on the topic meant it wasn't there. I'm glad to hear that it is.
You need another option in your poll: Can't upgrade right now, but would if I could!
Found the multitasking about 40% of the way down the GDGT live blog. 2 lines. i'm happy with this version.
Just woke up to the news here in Australia. I am very happy with the iPhone 4. It ticks almost all of the boxes for me. My 24 month contract for my iPhone 3G ends next month so i'll definitely be upgrading. There are only 2 things that i'm pissed off about. 1: No 64GB storage. 2: Aussies have to wait until July to buy one when other major countries get it in June (I wanted to have it before my early July holiday but no dice). But it's the little things about the iPhone 4 that win me over. 802.11N (OH YEAH!), Support for 900mhz 3G networks (OH YEAH! The Optus Network in Australia has 2 3G networks. 900 and 2100. Until now the iPhone could only access the 2100 network, which now means better coverage for me
) The 720P HD recording and the 960x640 screen also blew me away. I have not been this happy in quite a while about anything so thanks Apple for making my day!
The two reasons I am not getting a new iPhone:
I just picked up an Evo this weekend (didn't have anything to lose with the 30 day guarantee). I don't like it nearly as much as an iPhone...but I like Sprint a lot more than AT&T. And...I will be able to to video chat on the 3g and 4g network.
I will be cancelling my AT&T account this week. Thanks again Apple...it was fun while it lasted.
No 64gb=No Sale. I was hoping to finally get an iphone with enough storage for my full cd collection so I can put the bulky cd cases in storage. 1200 cds take up too much room. I have iphone inputs on all my stereos so the last missing link to storing my physical collection is a big enough chip (64gb or bigger) on my iphone. Hurry up with it Apple!!
I was really surprised at the 32GB. People who are currently maxed out with videos and music, etc. will need to substantially cut back if they want to do any adhoc HD video recording.
I'm still wondering why so many people thought this was more than they were expecting. What surprised you about the new features and why? We knew they weren't just going to throw the FF camera on there so people could use third-party apps to do videochat. We already knew the display, we already knew about how thin it was, we already knew the battery was a little bit bigger.. HD video is nice, but hardly groundbreaking. I did like the glass.
What did I miss during the presentation?
I'm guessing the price of higher density flash doesn't make it cost-efficient to offer a 64gb with the form factor they wanted. Once the phone was leaked, the likelihood of 64/80gb dropped quite a bit (microSIM, antenna body, etc).
Yes, I'm still buying one, but they're pretty much keeping pace with a platform that's only been around for half as long right now.
Where's the "Still AT&T only? FONK DAT!" option?
James - you are right no capacity upgrade is slightly disappointing.
But if it turns out they had to limit it due to the increased battery size I'd say itd be worth it!
I'll be one of the first ones to get an iPhone 4 once, and only if, it comes to Verizon! Until then, its all about the Droid Incredible!
I have the Droid Incredible, HTC EVO and the Bold 9700. I have never owned an iPhone and never had the desire to own one until today. Are the specs crazy for this device, no. Was i impressed as I was when I watched Google I/O, no. But I have to say this is the iPhone to get. This is the iPhone that will make this Apple hating fool get one lol. You don't know how many people will be shocked when they see me with this sexy little device.
I'm waiting to compare it with Windows Phone 7 and whatever Google is offering at the time. My middle-aged eyes would prefer a bigger screen like the EVO rather than an iPhone 4 with higher pixel density.
I think this just baisically blows the competition a bit. I mean, second front-facing camera phone to be known, Highest Resolution screen out of all the current mobile devices, they have really nailed it on multi-tasking, and the world's thinnest smartphone!
Verizon? psh, i could really care. A lot of people really want an iPhone, but most stay with Verizon and Androids just because they have hatred between the carrier and even the iPhone itself. But C'mon, seriously people? Just suck it up and get an iPhone already, it'll make you stop wishing
@Edie...................Dido my friend!
ONly thing that´s missing is the 64GB version..
At&t only = not getting one Had iphones since 1st gen... Done with at&t... So until available on another carrier in the US, forget it...
I'm going to have to pay the early upgrade unsubsidized price, $499. Sucks. But I must have the latest hardware. Further, my 3GS case is cracked, screen has dust/dead pixels, and I need more memory. You think 32gb is bad try 16gb. Upgrade all the way around for me.
The iPhone 4 is nice and hits on a lot of points for me, but it isn't about the phone that does it for me. I have had a 3G since it came out and passed on the 3GS knowing 2010 would perfect a better iPhone and it has, but I NEED my phone for my business and I use Google Voice (still no app) and Skype. Yes I know I can use Skype over 3G now, but with Verizon having the ability to use Skype w/o using minutes is a big win-win for me. I am still going to hold out and see what is around the bend, but if Apple, Google & AT&T can play nice and offer a true Google Voice App, then I might upgrade, but I don't plan on holding my breath.
I will stick with 3GS right now (of course my 3GS is only 6 months old) - wanting to see what will be announced in next year's WWDC already. Not interested in video chat, I hardly shoot videos, the new design didn't wow me. The higher res. screen and longer battery life are nice but they just don't justify the upgrade at the higher price. After the OS upgrade, my 3GS will do everything I need at the moment.
I'd get one in a minute if it wasn't tied to AT&T.
How about the wait until Verizon option? It's obviously happening soon, that's why AT&T raised the early termination fees so much this year!!!! Sucks, because I have upgraded every year. Now, I'm hesitant, because I do believe we'll see Verizon with an iPhone in November.
I have been a loyal BB fan for 5 years and have owned 3 different BB devices. I was eligible for upgrade last month and was waiting to see what Apple puts out. I'm sold. I will be going on Tues next week to preorder. I'm thinking.......white.
No i will stick with the 3gs. With iphone 4 you CANNOT get unlimited internet. You CANNOT use video calling without wifi... if i can't use video calling everywhere, then I don't need it... VERYYYY NICE phone but the IOS4 will give the 3gs the same exact things except for video calling, which can ONLY be used on wifi, memory card, brighter screen, flash, and new design which is not too much of a difference.... I guess i'll wait until iphone 5 comes out... but i must be honest the phone is nice...
none of my friends have iPhones. Maybe 2 or 3 acqauintances. So this video chat thing is sorta pointless for me. *sigh it's cool as hell though. If you guys need 64gb or more then fine. But I think it's a bit overkill on a PHONE. I understand the concept of taking every iTunes video, album, podcast, game etc with you, but 32 gigs if ok with me. I can manage my syncing just fine and put on/ takeoff what I figure I might want for the next day/ week. BUT the ipad wouldve been muchhhh better suited with larger storage space to play your media on that pretty large screen. As opposed to An entire season of firefly on a 3 somehing inch screen.
I'd love to get an iPhone 4 even though I want 4g cough cough AT&T but not eligible for an upgrade. iPhone 5 can't come soon enough!
Hellz yes I am getting one. Currently I am rolling with a Blackberry Bold 9650 but this latest iPhone looks sick and I must have it. I have a Blackberry for work purpose so I will move it to AT&T and get that black iPhone. This will be my first iPhone I am sure it will take abit to get use to all the features.
Dee-Dee: Your 3GS iPhone is NOT the same as the iPhone 4! Did you not read about RETINA display, with 4 times the number of pixels? How about improved battery life? HD video recording? Antenna improvements? There's more, but posts like yours are bad because if someone else reads your post and believes it, they too have the same mistaken belief.
I have the iPhone 3GS and will be upgrading.
And when Verizon gets the iPhone in the next 6-12 months, I'll switch because of AT&T's horrible service and signal here in Hampton Roads.
Thanks for sharing.. Best Regards. http://www.shopping.ind.in/iphone-apple-iphone-4-black-smartphone-32gb-att/
