I have the same problem and I dont have the Splash ID desktop version What do I have to do to get rid of this message?

For those with SplashID problem, SplashID plugin has been updated on June 9, 2010. Mac OS Desktop – Plugin updated to support Safari 5. Just uninstalled the old plugin and installed the new one and it works fine now.

After installing Safari 5 on my Windows XP laptop, it crashes every time I try to manually type in a URL on the address bar, AS SOON AS I TYPE A SINGLE CHARACTER!. I want to go back to Safari 4!

Definitely seemed quicker. I had tried Chrome for a while because it seemed quicker than the previous Safari version. However, I did find it remarkably buggy in term of page rendering and indeed was very unreliable when came to (excuse the dirty word) Flash heavy pages.

Only the Safari 5 did crash first up, but has been fine since.

Not a bad update, but in my (admittedly small) sample size, Chrome is still fair a bit faster, and Chrome having mature extensions, not to mention the ability to set my own search engines, I doubt Safari 5 will woo me back. (Question for those who have been Safari loyalists; is it possible to set up custom or keyword search engines in safari? That is one of my favorite features in both firefox and chrome, and a pet peeve that I could not do in Safari.)

@chatnoir80: There's a workaround for the Netflix issue by enabling the developer menu and setting the user agent to Safari 4.1. It's a Netflix issue and obviously someone put something along the lines of "browserversion = 4" instead of "browserversion >= 4" for the Safari specific code support on their website.

I think the browser is about as fast at loading pages as it was before, but the progress bar can make it appear slower because it makes it more obvious it is still loading part of the page off the screen when most of it has already loaded.

definitely running faster for me on Snow Leopard on a 2007 Aluminum Core 2 Duo iMac than Safari 4 was. AND Flash isn’t crashing me as hard, if at all, than it was in Safari 4

Wanted to be impressed, but was not. Long-awaited extensions may help (though with Apple certification required, probably not), but overall this feels more like a 4.5 than a 5.0 release.

Oh and they brought back the progress bar in the URL field. I never understood why they removed it because iphone / ipad still had it.

Doesn’t seem to be any faster than Chrome or FF for me. In fact it’s slower loading several sites for me. And the UI starting with 4 is hella boring and lame. Meh.

Awesome like bar
New pages open in tabs

It is FAST. No more need to use chrome.
