Preview the New MobileMe Calendar Beta

Apple has updated their MobileMe News with information on the the new Calendar beta that should make any Microsoft Outlook user happy:

Members using the new MobileMe Calendar beta can now view and edit their MobileMe calendars in Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 usingĀ MobileMe Control Panel v1.6.1. The functionality is available even if you're connected to a Microsoft Exchange server (Exchange calendar data is kept separate from MobileMe and can be viewed side-by-side on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC). To use Microsoft Outlook with the beta, follow theseinstructions.

Also note that when using Outlook with the beta, support is not currently available for push calendar updates or for accessing your calendar via a proxy server (ask your organization's IT administrator if you're not sure about this). For more information on the MobileMe Calendar beta, please read thisĀ FAQ.

Like cats and dogs living together, or is anyone looking forward to trying this out?

Been messing with the beta calendar for 24 hours and it's impressive. Feels like an iPad. Still doing the awful random refresh and no reminders on the web! Ugh! But worthy of my $65/year.

  2. Jerry G says:

I can't get Outlook to display in the Calendar and Contacts even with the new control panel. I have sync set up with Exchange. I only see Windows Contacts (calendar), Google, and Yahoo.

  3. Franck says:

In the same boat as Jerry here. I'm not using Exchange but the new MobileMe folder has not been created. I lost my calendar entries in Outlook (t/g I had a backup) and I have no way to sync now...

  4. Franck says:

Actually I managed to make it work by rebooting, stopping the sync and starting it again.

  5. JNGold says:

    @Franck,

Do you see outlook in the drop down menu for cal and contacts? I don't see it.

  6. Rock says:

Still waiting to get the beta calendar..

  7. Murphy5156 says:

I'm more excited about the fact that you can now have shared calendars between MobileMe members and even send out invites! I've been waiting for this functionality for a while now. Just waiting for my gf to get her beta invite so I can test it out.

  8. Christian says:

I'm waiting for my Beta invite too.

  9. Kent says:

STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO ACCEPT MY INVITE!

    Want this badly! :)

  10. Jocio Morais says:

Hi Jerry G, Did you fix this problem ? I'm in same boat also Regards, J. Morais

  11. Chad says:

The beta says it needs Outlook 07/10 32-bit. I've tried 1.6.1 control panel on three different Win7 machines (one 64-bit, two 32-bit, all with 32-bit Outlook 07 or 10), no syncing with Outlook. Tried rebooting, stopping/starting, different sync options (auto, manual). Anyone have any luck?

  12. Michael says:

Well... if my assumption is correct, this will not work if your Outlook is already connected to an existing MS Exchange server. Which kills the point for most of us. Who uses Outlook that doesn't already have it connected to an Exchange Server???

  13. Bernardo says:

Couldn't manage to get it to work. no sync, no clear documentation.

  14. Gaila says:

Since I'm not a total mac person, use PC, IPad and Iphone. I signed up for the Trial MobileMe. When I did what I was told to sync my contact and calendar (outlook 2007), I lost my calendar in Outlook. I kept my contacts, but lost my calendar. Is there a way to get my calendar back from MobileMe? Or is there a way to get my calendar from a backup file? From what I think I understand we should be able to access the calendar in Outlook, but haven't been able to yet. I'm not on an Exchange Server. I just have Outlook on my PC and my Yahoo account emails transfer to it. Thanks for any help. Now I'm scared to cancel the MobileMe trial membership for fear of losing other things.

I am now in the same situation, my calender is wiped and now only available on mobileme! someone please help.

      • Karl says:

I also spent 2 hours on chat support but in the end they told me that I should remove my Itunes and then remove the mobileme control panel then reinstall everything. this i did but still back to square one!
