Apple allows custom iPhone ringtone makers into the App Store

Custom ringtone makers for the iPhone are the latest group of of apps to suddenly gain approval for the App Store. This correlates directly with Apple's recent changes to their App Store policies, allowing 3rd party Google Voice apps and other apps that Apple had previously banned or rejected from their mobile app marketplace, or simply left in limbo. Techcrunch reports:
Since the early days of the App Store, applications that allow users to make ringtones from songs on their handsets have either inexplicably sat on hold or were outright denied. And yet, here we are; as of right now, there are no less than 5 different ringtone making apps sitting in the App Store.
Another segment of apps that Apple has confirmed does not directly compete with their own app and service offerings has been revealed. I wonder what types of apps we may see pop up next that weren't previously allowed?
What's your opinion on Apple's recent lax in App Store restrictions? Let us know in the comments!

What is this I don't even...
Ringtone Creator Pro has been top of the hot list all day...
Hey that's great. Now, could we get some app for SMS alerts? Those same 8 are getting old after 3 years.
This is a complete idiotic app, you have to download The ringtone from computer to iTunes, and then sync your phone... Then ist more easy to use iringer.net
How long until someone makes an app that just yanks the song preview off an iTunes search to use as the ringtone? Or does that already exist?
If you have to go to iTunes and add them and re-sync and sh|t, why not just use an osX app? That's silly!
I feel like this app is a total ripoff it wont allow me to download the ringtone just a big text file. Oh TiPB how could you mislead me
.
Anyring through Cydia has done this for awhile, great app, also does them for texting and assigning text messages, love that app, if only there was a jailbreak for my IP4 so I could get it back!!! Hopefully texing apps are next bitesms..
I thank the JB community for making Apple realize if they don't allow something, people will be more apt to JB their device.
The JB folks are more motivating than all the different phone manufacturers put together.
Lol who need this, i ve been creating ringtone using itunes, just rename the extension, put in library, and sync to iphone. No jailbreak required
Sorry, the point isn't that specific app or whether any of these apps are great or goofy or grotesque, it's that Apple is now allowing them where previously they did not.
There recent lax on apps is annoying, Jobs says there is no nudity in app store but yet i can find a app called "365 sex positions" thats been downloaded by 10,000 little kids good job Jobs your really cool
Apple should just make a nice ringtone app that allows us to do this right from our phones. I'd pay for it no questions asked if it allowed me to do it with music I've purchased or music I already had on my phone. Anyring in cydia doesn't cut it IMO.
People. You are all missing the point here. Apple allowed this in BECAUSE it is complex and a pain, and they are far easier ways to do the same thing. But, it allows them to sit back and let the world know that they are not as "closed" off as everyone makes them out to be. They charge you for the song, then charge you to make a ringtone from the song you already bought. You think they will allow someting to stop that money train?? Something as easy as everyone here is asking for?? OH NO!! No body would use the iTunes ringtone maker again. Ain't gonna happen.
Ringtone Designer (Lite - Free) - I think this is wonderful. I'm no tekki and so the instructions given to me by someone in the iphoneincanada.ca forum were quite convoluted - it worked but I sure did not make all the tones I wanted. I say Thanks to Jobs (rarely do that!!) for allowing. This lite version only allows for a 20 second tone, but I have found that it's enough. Yes you have to make it and then sync - it's a few steps - but don't most people sync regularly anyways? what's the big deal. I'm just so happy to actually have an easy app to make all my different tones for all my important contacts!! now if only we could get some new sms tones. (there is also a paid Ringtone Designer (0.99) that had quite a few bugs but seems like they are listening to the folks who have it and have rated it and they are making major improvements.
@ scott But u have to wonder how much money they are actually making when charging u for a ringtone from the music u just bought. It's a joke actually because how many people do buy ringtones from iTunes? Songs yes, if they charged me an extra dime or two to make the ringtone from the song I just purchased then that might be a little more reasonable. A lot of times when I see new songs advertised with that $1.29 price tag I always go to other sites and more than likely they have it for .99.
