Apple reminds developers to get their apps ready for iOS 4.2

Apple sent out an email to developers today reminding them to get their apps ready for the impending arrival of iOS 4.2:

iOS 4.2 will soon be in the hands of millions of customers around the world. Make sure that your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch apps incorporate all the exciting features in iOS 4.2, including:

Multitasking - Multitasking services allow your apps to perform tasks in the background including playing audio, push notifications, receiving location change events, and more.

Game Center - With the Game Kit API, you can implement Game Center functionality such as submitting and displaying achievements, scores, and leaderboards, and establishing multiplayer games.

AirPrint - iOS 4.2 allows you to easily enable instant wireless printing from your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch apps.

Submit Your Apps Today

Build, test, compile, and submit your apps for review using iOS 4.2 SDK GM seed so they can be ready when iOS 4.2 is available to users around the world.

So any day now, we hope!

Doesn't sound like a "this Friday" message to me. Since iOS 4.2 is GM my guess is they are fixing some other stuff before the release. Say osx, and -fingers crossed- the video airplay update for apple tv.

  6. David says:

It is an important update for all the ipad users out there. Basically IMHO makes the ipad worth something. Also all the ios devices will be matched up to v4.2. I can't wait for the update for the ipad the other devices is not a great big deal but still got some things to look forward too.

  7. David Baird says:

I think performance will jump a little especially on the devices older than the 4G iPhone. Already have 4.2 on my iPad 16GB and it runs great even with multiple apps running!!

  8. Merv says:

I've been running the GM on my iPad. Really great and much needed. Looking forward to trying airprint

  9. Liam says:

I'm not going to update because of the rotation lock I love it the way it is and I think apple is stupid for changing it!

  10. Jesus says:

Airplay I can wait , also multitask on iPad and folders this is the best update so far from apple

  11. Ronn says:

I just want a true release date. Looking forward to updating all of my iOS devices.
