Poll: Which device are you switching from to get the Verizon iPhone?

Are you switching to the Verizon iPhone and if so what smartphone or feature phone are you switching from? We know some AT&T iPhone users are making the big switch as are some Verizon BlackBerry and Android/Droid users but also a lot of feature phone users might be making the smartphone plunge for the first time. (Bye bye flip phone!)

Let us know where you're coming from in the poll above and tell us your story in the comment below!

Going to the iPhone from a Verizon BB Tour... because I'm just tired of the Tour, and - since getting a MacBook Pro, I want something that will easily sync to my phone.

  2. Brian Tufo says:

    Personally I'm not switching.

  3. chris gonzales says:

Not switching. I like my large screen.

  4. B.Boston says:

I'll be switching.. from my AT&T iPhone 3g.

...to an AT&T iPhone 5 this summer :)

  5. valkraider says:

    Not switching. Happy with AT&T.

  6. yo mama says:

    i will stay with AT&T

  7. Moises says:

Am staying on AT&T they have being good too me. And I have been with then before the iPhone came out. iPhone 4 and blackberry bold 9700 are the phone that I have with them.

  8. Moises says:

Am staying on AT&T they have being good too me. And I have been with then before the iPhone came out. iPhone 4 and blackberry bold 9700 are the phone that I have with them. Could not be any happier.

  9. Josh says:

Staying put with my iPhone 4 :)

  10. Ted Kao says:

I like AT&T's speed when it actually has connection. I've been able to use Youtube via 3G without much difference than via my home. That would be WHEN I have a good connection. Still, its not enough of an issue to switch from AT&T to Verizon

  11. jeff says:

make the bigger screen and put it on Sprint where plans are affordable and we will talk.

  12. Joe McG says:

The iPhone on Verizon is great for everyone. I just wish the Verizon iPhone had GSM as well so I could use it in Europe. Deal breaker for me...

  13. Glenn_VA says:

Not switching. Wonder if any read about Verizon's intent to terminate it's program for upgrading phones every two years. That means that if you get a VZW iphone, you might have a harder time getting an upgrade--especially if you're interesting in LTE.

    • Rmam says:

@ Glenn_VA They're not preventing you from upgrading in 2 years or making it hard even. They are just getting rid of the "New Every Two" Program that gave like a $50 or $100 credit towards the purhase of a new phone when it came time to upgrade. AT&T never offered anything like that in past, nor did any other US carrier.

      • Lollipopjones says:

I think you are misunderstanding. For an AT&T customer they can upgrade practically whenever an iphone comes out. All of you going to the iPhone 4 when VzW comes out will not be able to get iPhone 5 if it comes out in june vs iPhone 4 AT&T customers will be able to get the latests variant.

Also it used to be that VzW customers on "qualified" plans could upgrade every 12-13 months during a 2 year contract vs waiting till their New Every two. Whatever though. Enjoy your 14 day return policy... that also affects your your lemon policy... aka your phone breaks down on the 17th they will replace it with a refurb instead of a brand new device. No, your local state laws about 30 day return policy doesn't matter because in the contract you will agree to the 14 day return policy.

      • Gregg says:

I've had all 4 iPhones and have had the last 2 at new contract price. And that's upgrading every year with AT&T.

  14. Harold Whipps says:

    Not leaving SPRINT!

  15. macboy15 says:

I'll be switching from my AT&T iphone 3gs. To AT&T iphone 5. Wow look at all the people switching from a android os phone to a iphone. Not surprised by this. Why have something like a iphone when you can have a iphone.

    • webvex says:

Indeed. The media and bloggers have been focusing on AT&T defections, instead of Android defections. That could be interesting.

      • dave says:

iv said all along android will lose the most out of any platform. android was we dont have an iphone but we do have this

        • webvex says:

Well, cheap always sells. There will still be plenty of fools who think an Android that's $100 less upfront (even though they're paying thousands over the life of the contract) is a good deal.

  16. Nate says:

Switching from my Sprint BB tour. I'm waiting for the Verizon iPhone for the longest.

  17. Suzanne says:

Switching from my Verizon feature phone. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not concerned if the Verizon iPhone 5 has LTE - we probably won't have LTE here for quite a while. Verizon is the only carrier that provides service where I live and work & I've been waiting for this for a while.

  18. Steven says:

I'll be switching from my iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5 on att this summer . . I'm excited . . I think iPhone 5 is going to be a 4' inch screen, because of them removing home button, iOS 4.3, FaceTime over 3G or HSPA+, mobile hotspot, all wrapped in the same body style as the iPhone 4

  19. Warlord says:

I think the real story the media is missing is how many current iPhone users are staying with ATT. But thats not a negative headline so they don't talk about it.

  20. Norm says:

    I am gone AT&T later!!!

  21. MattD says:

I'm sticking with AT&T. Glad to see Verizon will be providing relief for those who have AT&T coverage issues.

  22. Mr.R says:

Not switching from AT&T for now. I still have 1 1/2 years left on contract anyway so maybe I'll switch whenever we get the first LTE iPhone.

  23. Randy says:

I will be switching from an unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 3G running on T-Mobile. I can't wait. My contract with T-mo is up on Feb. 15th.

  24. EagleyeSmith says:

TiPb, stop asking me. I'm not switching my iPhone. AT&T for life! YaDig!? Coo'. ;-)

  25. TK says:

Switching from Moto Droid 1 to iPhone 4

  26. 9thWonder says:

very intering. so far i deduce

they are gaining current verizon blackberry and android users. some at&T current iphone users.

what they aren't doing is pulling that strongly from the budget carriers like tmobile and sprint. likely cause verizon is just too damn overpriced. So lesson is they'll get current users, and get some verizon customers but they need to release on sprint and tmobile if they intend to get that market cause Verizon is still to pricy and cost is a major issue among customers on those carriers.

  27. Frank says:

Keeping AT&T. I've never had any problems with the three phones my family has with them. Nice of Verizon to take a bit of the traffic off the AT&T network.

  28. Tom-Tom says:

    Other: pre-pay Virgin Mobile phone

  29. Con-Nor says:

I chose Verizon droid(but i have a tmobile android) just to emphasize that i am using an android device...I think there should be a seperate Android option as well

I am a bit sad to leave android because i love my big screen but I will be going to a much more stable OS and manufacturer

  30. Jason says:

I have a VZW BB Curve 8330 that is three years old and I am SO READY to get rid of it. My End key, plus a few assorted others, do not work at all, and the phone cannot even open the browser without getting the lovely spinning hourglass.

I wanted to, and almost did, switch to an AT&T iPhone multiple times over the past year since my contract went month to month, but just could not give up the coverage that I had and have been carrying around my BB and a iPod Touch for over a year now. The actual prospect of being able to carry one, great device in my pocket is almost too much to handle.

  31. jeff says:

Sticking with ATT. Been with them for 16 years (Cingular). The dropped calls were always an iphone problem. I've had tons of cell phones over the years and NEVER had problems dropping calls until the iphone. I've had the iphone 4 since release day and I have maybe dropped 5 calls. The wife got one in October and hasn't dropped once. I'm just waiting to see how Verizon's network hold up. They can talk about testing all they want. They did not test their network on the scale they are about to handle. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad they picked up the iphone. It's better to spread the demand the iphone puts on a network rather than one network try to handle it all. In the end it's a better experience for everyone.

  32. Tyler says:

Not Switching from my Att iPhone4. Waiting on the new iPhone 5 from Att.

  33. Steohanie says:

Sticking with att and my 3GS for now and will stay with ATT and upgrade to the 5 when it comes out!! No carrier is perfect. It depends on what your needs are. ATT has met mine:)

  34. @iJimbov says:

Am switching my HTC Droid for the iPhone I been waiting for it to come to Verizon can't wait to get it

  35. Ricardo says:

Seems like ATT has nothing to worry about. I guess this is not the answer this blog wants so I expect another similarly worded poll tomorrow with the same answers as today. ;p no I will not be switching to verizon. I'll be getting the new iPhone. My 3G seems ancient now! Lol.

  36. Edie says:

seems like a few droid lovers are finally switchig! :D oh this conversion is going great!!!!

  37. Glenn says:

Since iOS 4.3, and future updates will not support the iPod Touch 2 gen, and I am already a verizon customer, I will upgrade to the iPhone, but may wait to see what version is out in June, or not depending on the state of my current non smart phone.

  38. Eric Stephenson says:

Thla poll doesn't look good for Android on Verizon. I cant relly say this is all that surprising given alot of people on Verizon bought a Droid since it was the closest thing to an iPHONE they could get on Verion. I got the Droid X but I wont be getting an iPhone unless i win the one that tipb is giving away since I have 18 months left on contract. Oh well iPhone 6 for me.

  39. Banker says:

AT&T iPhone 4 now... AT&T iPhone 5 in the summer. Verizon would have go do sonething big for me to switch. AT&T service has improved greatly since Nov 2009.

  40. Gregg says:

AT&T iPhone 5 in the summer.

  41. whsingleton says:

To those saying "this does not look good for Verizon Droid" I just have one thing to say.... a valid poll requires a RANDOM SAMPLE. The group of people with Droid that would go to an iOS fan blog and comment on this specific article is anything but random. I know you want to believe that Android is going to die now with iPhone on Verizon, however the reality is more likely that there will be TWO top mobile os'es (iOS & Android) for the forseeable future.

    • scottae316 says:

I agree that there will be two top mobile OS's; iOS and WebOS if HP pushes it right and make some different hardware.

  42. T-Mobile iPhone User says:

    Not switching.

    Staying with T-Mobile US.

  43. iDroid says:

I have 2 Verizon Android devices that I toggle between. I read tipb because I remain interested in technology and most particularly smartphones. I feel like the iOS ecosystem is well thought out but Android provides a much better Phone experience due to customization, options, flexibility, and notifications. Maybe the opportunity to toggle between a Verizon iPhone and my Android devices will prevail and I'll get the iPhone, but my senses tell me that I'm due for LTE in 2011 making the decision impossible. Idk anymore ...

  44. scottae316 says:

I found it interesting how many of the responders said they were staying with AT&T. I think that the anti-AT&T talk is most blog related and then picked up by the drive-by and blink media. Sure in some areas there is dissatisfaction with AT&T, same for Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. I think it will be interesting to see how many switch to iPhones as their contracts on Verizon come up, and new Android sales on Verizon are.

To answer the OP, staying with AT&T for the foreseeable future.

  45. MrWenis says:

Upgrading from my samsung intensity. Won't be able to till the summer though so looks like I'll be getting the next variant! That is if I don't get amazed by some other new brand...

  46. I'm not. I got ATT and until we start to see some real good 4G providers come out with the iPhone 5 or 6 then I'm staying with ATT. http://iphone.blogupdates.net/verizon-iphone-facts/

  47. lara says:

I will not be switching from my android to a iphone, I love love my android and with 4g just around the corner everywhere for Verizon? Why would I want a cdma phone without it? I have a duel led flash on my 8mp camera. I have widgets!!! You can't put widgets on an iphone...

  48. dizzo says:

Har to believe so many people staying with AT&T. In my area near Portland OR, every person I know on AT&T has bad coverage, dropped calls, slow data. I have stayed with Verizon and lived with the Driod because I had to. I'll be one of the first online/in line to get the Verizon iPhone!

This will put AT&T out of business in my area, so those of you staying with AT&T prepare to be bought by Verizon in a few years anyway!!!!

  49. Ethan says:

    Switched from a T-Mobile G2 :-)

  50. seo says:

Music started playing anytime I opened this web site, so annoying!
