Verizon iPhone Jailbroken to work on Cricket pay-as-you-go

So it looks like if you're willing to Jailbreak your Verizon iPhone 4 and trust a Cricket dealer on the shadier shade of shady to flash it onto the Cricket Wireless network, you can leave Big Red and go to tiny chirp.

Anyone making the switch?

Poll: What feature do you most wish Apple had added to iPad 2?
  1. ghostface147 says:

Like I'd risk some cricKet fool flashing my phone and possibly bricking it.

  2. cjford78 says:

Cricket? yikes! I would rather flash it to US Cellular... or rather wait for it so come to the carrier. Since the CDMA iPhone is not exclusive it's just a matter of time before it finds it way to US Cell and Sprint.

    • ghostface147 says:

Unlike T-Mobile, which actually offers limited iPhone support, Sprint has mentioned they will not activate it on their network if they are unlocked. Will they stick to it? Who knows. Based upon my experiences, Sprint doesn't allow non-sprint phones to be activated on their network.

      • cjford78 says:

thats very true, I just think it's a matter of time before spint (and other CDMA carriers) come to the table and talk deals with Apple. Personally I will jump for joy when T-Mo get the device and we can buy a GSM factory unlocked iPhone at our local (US Based) apple store. I know I could jailbreak, but I'm too lazy to do it.

      • xf says:

When I worked for Sprint, it was explicitly stated policy that they would not activate a phone you didn't buy from them.

        • cjford78 says:

LOL... maybe some one should send Dan Hesse an email asking when will they get off their duff and offer the iPhone. Since I'm too lazy to jailbreak I'm also too lazy to email Dan to ask...

  3. SprintiPhone says:

in a way, a jail broken phone on Cricket is a Sprint iPhone, as Cricket uses Sprints network

  4. SprintiPhone says:

I would only do it if I knew a Cricket dealer really well, as I know nothing about Cricket

  5. SprintiPhone says:

turns out question is moot in my case as cricket doesn't open new accounts in my area even though there is coverage here :P

  6. xf says:

This is just silly. Take a look at Cricket's coverage maps; they have significant data coverage only in a few major metro areas. Everywhere else you're roaming, and according to Cricket's website that means a) handset data only, and b) they can terminate you for roaming too much. For most people in most places, flashing your phone to Cricket is essentially bricking it.

    • Tony says:

However, if you live, eat, sleep, work, etc, etc etc.. all in said metro area, like quite a few people I know. If you happen to be in that type of situation, outright buying a VZW iPhone, or getting a contract and paying ETF, whatever floats your boat, that $45/55 a month unlimited EVERYTHING plan might sound like a good idea.

  7. carolinamic says:

If I was in a cricket area with a cerizon IPhone I would do it in a heart beat.

  8. Armando says:

Not interested til its been fully tested, and been running for at least six months. I have an HTC Evo on cricket, and it works great, but an iPhone 4, is a completely different story.

  9. Chris says:

Shady Cricket rep?? Ummmm, no. You do your own flashing and programming on the phone. It's no different then all the other methods to flash phones onto Cricket. You just need the files and scripts to run on your particular phone. Like Armando up there with the HTC EVO on Cricket. Armando didn't roll into a Cricket store, feel out a 'shady' rep, and get him to program it. He did it himself or paid for a service.

Fully tested?? lol... It's not a time bomb Armando. Either the features work or they don't. The video didn't show if web or sms work, so I'm still curious about that.

  10. chris says:

has anyone found out if you can use the web or send picture messages? using a iphone4 on cricket

  11. Lebron says:

nice ring on your index finger guy

  12. ootahslc says:

I made the switch but i am unable to receive sms text. people will get mine. any suggestions?

  13. Eggaroso says:

I flash to page pluse text me 4 more info 2035565234

  14. Luciia Archiila says:

does this work on the iphone 4s?

    • dan says:

yes actually in im using one verizon iphone 4s on cricket on montly plan (no pay go)just with talk and text from u iphone dial *22807 and u can see that....

  15. Chad says:

HMM this seems fishy to me, i mean every flashed phone i have seen cannot be programmed over the air.... Im wondering if they just had another phone on speaker phone plying the cricket stuff off camera to make it look like the iphone was doing it........
