During the Photoshop World 2011 keynote, Adobe showed off a version of its popular PC and Mac application, Photoshop -- running on an iPad. This is a totally different version to the Photoshop Express app which is already available. The new Photoshop app was given a short demo, which showed off the use of layers and a few other new features

There was no mention of when this app will be released or if it will be iPad only (or iPad 2 only due to the power needed to run it) but we will keep you in the loop as soon as we hear. If you want to catch a short video of the app in action, head over to Photography Bay.

  1. Aliff says:

$100+ for a ipad app anybody?

  2. n0thinghead says:

i knew it. in about a yr or 2, maybe less, flash will be on iOS devices.

  3. chuck732 says:

Adobe's Photoshop for PC go's for around $600.00. So figure what there going to try to get for a iPad version.

  4. Jason D says:

I'm not sure how we inferred 'full featured' from that demo video, but kinda cool.

I don't feel a gesture input on a small display would be the ideal input method for most work though. Assuming it integrates with Dropbox, you'll probably see me at least mess with it. :)

  5. DvS says:

It will be overpriced and buggy, just like the desktop version.

  6. Jonblaze says:

The only thing buggy about Photoshop is the pc ur using it on.. As a designer Photoshop is my bread & butter. If it ain't 100 then I'm not working!! Photoshop runs smooth on macs!

    • Frank72 says:

It runs quite smooth on PCs too. The problem with Photoshop is the brand Adobe, which now causes repulsion on fanboys.

  7. (Copy of) Dev says:

The big question is not if the iPad has the power to run it, but how a Photoshop (and its users) will respond to the lower resolution input. Mice have pixel-perfect accuracy, whereas fingers, obviously, do not. A stylus is a little better, but a mouse still has it beat hands down. There is a lot of work in Photoshop that requires that level of precision, and it will be interesting to see how (if?) a tablet UI can provide one.

    • fastlane says:

Absolutely. At least for now, a stylus or mouse will be necessary for Pen tool use, anyway. Maybe they'll come up with some way around that, the way Apple did with the magnifying glass. But, I can't imagine anything that would possess me to do major Photoshop work on the iPad (for now, at least), even if all the features were there.

I haven't used a mouse in at least ten years... but the on-screen cursor is still necessary for preciseness.

I hope Adobe remembers the photographer in iPad Photoshop. The Camera Raw plugin and it's analog Lightroom are essential tools. That would get me to buy something in the $100 range for the iPad, and I'd be leave my laptop behind. Of course, I'd want a 128GB iPad 3 next year to support it.

  9. Mac Adobe says:

I beloved up to you'll receive carried out right here. The comic strip is tasteful, your authored subject matter stylish. however, you command get bought an impatience over that you would like be turning in the following. unwell certainly come further until now once more since precisely the same just about a lot often inside of case you shield this increase.
