Playboy for iPad goes live, every issue as nature (and Hugh) intended!

Bang on time as per Hugh Hefner’s recent tweet, Playboy for iPad is now live. As we thought, it is a web app rather than an App Store app. The site designed specifically for the iPad, contains every single back issue of Playboy. These are not cut down versions of each magazine either; they contain every word and page that appeared in the printed version and every woman ever photographed.

To get access to the content, you have to subscribe and there are various options for this. If you are prepared to sign up for 2 years, it will cost you $100. 1 year is $60. If you only want to commit for a month at a time, the price is $8.

There is a video demo on the home page which shows how the site works on the iPad. It looks to have been implemented really well with easy navigation and page scrolling. This is not just a website!

Are any of our readers planning on subscribing to iPlayboy? Can you see this opening the flood gates to other magazines of this type? Let us know in the comments!

    Cool.

  2. Jason says:

    Google provides free boobs.

  3. Joe says:

    Way too expensive

  4. HungWell says:

How are they going to put the staples in the middle of the centerfold?

  5. deviladv says:

Damn finally! A way to get all those fantastic Playboy articles online! Why are you looking at me like that?

  6. Dionte says:

    Maybe if it was Playgirl.

  7. 123arnie says:

It would be nice if you spelled Hugh Hefner's name correctly.

  8. Maniacfive says:

Seeing as Hef seems to be a crusade of late to put only horribly butterfaced women on the cover of playboy... I don't care. As said above, google provides all that playboy would provide.

  9. Corlynn says:

I'm not sure where you get your pricing information from, but from the site, I see $8/month, 60/yr ($5/mo) or $100/2yr (4.17/mo) and no 3 day trial option to be seen.

  10. Peter321 says:

    $0.95 for 3 days - try $5!!!!

That's the price here in Denmark!

    • Case says:

Yeah so it looks like Canadians are getting the shaft on pricing. It's only 8$ a month here in the US, although we get no 3 day option???

  11. SteveW928 says:

While I probably won't be subscribing... I do have to give them many kudos for the implementation. If all magazines went this route, there are SEVERAL I would subscribe to that I currently do not. I used to subscribe to several magazines, but have stopped all but one or two... and just pick up an issue now and then. Listen up magazine publishers! This model could change that. I wonder if all the back-issues are searchable?

That price seems too high for most magazines though. I'd pay a bit more than a typical subscription price for the ability to have back issues. Maybe one price for that, and then a lower price where you just get the year of issues you subscribe to.

  12. emtp563 says:

I'll give it a whack (no pun intended).

  13. Dirk Digler says:

I can only imagine being at the airport, viewing the latest issue of PB and getting a chubby.

  14. TheWizz says:

Time to buy that screen protector!

  15. Arin says:

Oh my God, these comments, so far, are HILARIOUS!

  16. PJ73 says:

I think they should give there magazine subscribers a discount price for the iPad version.

  17. JimBean says:

    Porn always lead the way.

  18. RickG13 says:

What is this!? Nudity!? on the Internet no less! I am shocked and appalled. I must go find some windex because suddenly my iPad feels dirty. :)

  19. Crunch says:

How will the centerfold part work? Will we need to purchase another iPad for this? Pretty good sales gimmick.

  20. Jaime Lefebvre says:

This seems really odd pricing to me. I get my paper subscription for less than $20 a year. Now I have to pay more for the digital version? What?

  21. Haha says:

I want this just to see OJ Simpson selling those black leather gloves before he figured out how to make the black leather glove famous

  22. David says:

I think The Economist offers the best iPad magazine experience so far. The articles are accompanied by audio readings by real voice actors.

  23. Eric8199 says:

Has anyone tried it? Can you download them for offline viewing somehow, or is an internet connection required? I assume you must be connected...

  24. jonesy27 says:

I've been trying it... Paid the subscription for the month and it just does not work! Just sends you to the website... So far I think it's a load of crap!!

  25. Vuuduu8 says:

So does this mean that Apple is changing its policy about nudity?
