iOS 5 Features: Unsecured call warning

Not that many of us are Bond, Borne, or Sarah Walker types, but just in case you might be a target for cellular call eavesdropping, iOS 5 will now warn you when you're talking over an unsecured network. If you're a high value target, you're probably avoiding even the secure ones, but if you're simply living next to a nosy neighbor with too much time and Radio Shack kit on his or her hands, it could be handy to know when you're vulnerable.

Anyone glad for this warning?

  1. Huntaah says:

    Yawn.

  2. CYNiK says:

Doesn't this mean this warning will come up for EVERY GSM phone call you make.. GSM uses very weak encryption...? Kind of confused with this warning.

  3. David says:

Am assuming that this notification would only appear if the default is to use secure connections? If so, then the majority of us would not see this notification at all, as CYNiK has already mentioned, most connections would fall under the 'unsecure' category...

  4. Matthew says:

I appreciate it but I think it's overkill!

  5. If anything, I think Apple are hoping that this feature will be used in some sort of action movie plot. :P

  6. Jazzfiend4 says:

    This is in iOs 4....

  7. Anon says:

Commenting just for the Sarah Walker mention.

  8. Matt Reyes says:

I've gotten that message several times after installing iOS 5. Also I noticed it happens when I call 2 specific numbers. Both numbers are iPhone users. Could that mean anything?

  9. Faizaan says:

Nice Sarah Walker mention. Guess I'm not the only one who watches chuck

  10. Fidodido says:

Hahaha! First I want it to make a call while holding properly!! Then i can think about a secure connection!!

  11. Michael M Alber says:

Tony Soprano would appreciate this feature.

  12. Anonymous says:

Also Kirk and Spock. 'Admiral, if we go "by the book," like Lieutenant Saavik, hours could seem like days.'

  13. Shatib says:

It happen to me today , but I don't know why ?

  14. Skatealex2 says:

    I like this feature.

  15. Bob Motown says:

Well when has Apple ever cared about encryption?

  16. Justcurious,dontflame says:

Wait a minute o.O Is that Georgia on Rene's iphone wallpaper?

    • Tom says:

Could be her, if that's who he's calling. You can put a picture to go with each of your contacts. That isn't an image of his wallpaper, though.

  17. Joe Amato says:

i wouldnt mind it if i could turn it the feature off if i wanted. and if there isnt an option, ill wait to update to ios5 until a tweak is available from cydia to auto ignore
