Spotify for iPhone has finally hit the US App Store.

Stream millions of tracks from thousands of albums and artists to your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Take your existing Spotify playlists with you on the go - listen to them during your commute, in the gym or on a flight. With ‘Offline mode’ you can listen even when no connection is available. Wirelessly sync your local files to your phone to merge your catalogue with ours, no cables required! Download and get started directly from your mobile.

  • Wirelessly sync your local files to your phone
  • Create and sync playlists
  • Receive music from friends via the inbox
  • Star your favourite tracks
  • Scrobble tracks to Last.fm
  • Access to over 13 million tracks from our catalogue
  • Offline playlists – listen to music with no mobile connection and avoid using your data allowance

Personally, I'll be sticking with iTunes and iCloud for my music streaming needs, but I'm old school and actually enjoy listening to my local radio. However, Spotify is a great alternative to iTunes and offers features that Apple does not. Will you be jumping ship?

Spotify is available for Free for iPhone and requires a free Spotify account. There are also premium and unlimited accounts available starting at $4.99 per month.

I jumped ship. Love Spotify. I paid the $9.99 to use the offline listening since I spend 1.5 hrs in the subway each day in NYC. I like it so far.

  2. Kingdavidfive says:

So how do you get an invite or do you have to pay for the services

Friends in the UK use Spotify, I might try it out and see how it goes but iTunes and my existing Pandora account are fine for me, especially since Pandora give a discount for paying for the whole year in advance and Spotify seem to be selectively adding users from the USA with that stupid, enter email address for invitation to sign up for their service. It makes it look more like they are farming email addresses rather than actually looking for customers.

    • Anonymous says:

Agree there should be some incentive to prepay a year. It's nice that you can pay $119.88 for a year, but maybe they should drop that down to $99.99

      • Anonymous says:

Pandora only charges $32 for the whole year, it doesn't cache the stream but then I can use the music held on itunes for those times.

I went to their website and they are using this 'invite' as a way of pushing people to sign up for their paid service which 'magically bypasses' the queue of people waiting for an invite.

I'm not that willing to sign up for a service until I get a chance to test drive it myself and I am not paying a subscription just to test something out, who do they think they are? Netflix?

"I’ll be sticking with iTunes and iCloud for my music streaming needs" - Leanna, I didn't think "streaming" was part of iCloud's features. Am I wrong?

    • Anonymous says:

Not technically but of there is a song you want to listen to on your idevice and it's not on there you can easily and quickly download it from iCloud.

      • lgreenberg says:

Yeah that makes sense - I just don't know if it's fair to call that "streaming." Where as with Spotify you can put together an entire playlist before hand and play it without having to download anything.

    • Chris says:

Yep. iTunes does not offer streaming.

  5. Rajkumar Nagarajan says:

I think you need the premium plan @ USD 9.99 for mobile access

    • lgreenberg says:

Yeah, that's right. The only thing that's free is the desktop version with ads. Desktop without ads is $4.99 and Desktop without ads & mobile access is $9.99.

I wish they'd offer a choice of desktop or mobile for $4.99 instead. I'd rather just have it on my phone not the desktop.

Been using for over an hour and I think I will be canceling my Rdio for it. Better catalog and the iPhone app is better imo.

  7. How does this compare to Slacker radio?

  8. Anonymous says:

A little confused...Can you also upload your own music, too? That is, upload your own music in the cloud?

  9. stueysays says:

I've got 11 invites left if anyone needs one. Let me know on Twitter @stueysays

  10. thelinu5 says:

I got 15 invites to give away. Drop an email address here or contact me on twitter @thelinu5

  11. JustHadToReply says:

I use both. Is it really obligatory to stop using iTunes if I use Spotify? I don't understand this jumping the ship thing...
