Poll: Planning to leave webOS for iPhone or iPad?

webOS users: Now that HP has decided to bloody well abandon Palm Pre, Veer and TouchPad users and put the whole future of your fav platform in doubt, are you planning on giving iPhone and iPad a look? Are you shopping around? Or are you holding to hope that some knight in shining hardware swoops out of this darkest night to rescue your beloved webOS and give it the chance it so truly deserves?

While we could never replace your admittedly sweet cards and synergy, and we may not be as tweakable as Android, as fresh as Windows Phone, or have a slider like BlackBerry, iOS is elegant, well designed, has more apps than anyone could use in a lifetime, the best web browser in the business, is relentless updated by Apple (witness iOS 5 -- with unobtrusive notifications! -- coming the fall!), and has an awesome Jailbreak community for everything else.

Also, the TiPb Nation rocks! (I'm just saying...)

Let me know which way you're leaning in the poll up top and lets talk about it in the comments below. If you need extra help, make sure you jump over to our iPhone and iPad Forums, you might just find some old friends from PreCentral.net waiting to reconnect!

TiPb Picks of the Week
  1. BEST WEB BROWSER IN THE BUSINESS??? You don't even have text reflow! FAIL!!! Android reflow text upon zooming, which is amazing.

    • Anonymous says:

Google's Chrome team doesn't get along with their Android team, so Android doesn't get Chrome and that hurts their HTML5, CSS3, etc. support. Anyone at Apple's Safari team tried to pull that, and Steve Jobs' Omega Beams would obliterate them down to embers. So, Safari still offers the best support for web and web apps in mobile

If that upsets you, write to Google and tell them to get their $#1t together and get Chrome onto Android. (I know I'd love it.)

      • Anonymous says:

Any actual proof of the teams not getting along? By the way, the Android 3.1 Honycomb browser beats the current iOS browser in HTML5 test.

    • Jones Davide says:

Have to agree. I've owned/own webOS, iOS, Android and Win Phone 7. the stock android browser is quick, has the best text reflow, and has Flash on demand when you need it.

    • Anonymous says:

Text reflow is actually a terrible thing. Ask anyone who makes a web site, they'll tell you it sucks. Or even just ask someone who doesn't want the websites they visit to look like a s**t.

Also, stop with the ALLCAPS. Please. No one likes that. It doesn't make you look credible, it makes you look like a jackass.

    • Anonymous says:

dude, I hated text reflow, nothing looked right. Just visit engadget and you'll see the top bar look like crap and when you zoom in to read the articles the pictures are too big and off center. The only good thing in my experience with androids browser is flash support.

    • Anonymous says:

Some people actually prefer the text to not be re-flowed upon zooming in. Not to mention iOS's far superior panning and zooming consistency and physics engine makes it superior than the Android browser in my opinion. Find one android phone with iphone 4 specs that runs the browser as smooth.

I just p a i d $21.87 for an i P a d 2-64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasonîc Lumîx GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://bit.ly/SHoPBid

  2. Marc says:

Palm fan back to the Treo 600, 650, 755, Sprint Pre (day one). Switched to Verizon iPhone4 in July. Sad for HP stockholders.

  3. Anonymous says:

I grabed an iPad after seeing crappy TouchPad reviews.

That said, webOS is much more fun to use than iOS. I don't really like iOS as a OS, but i do love the ecosystem/having a polished OS

  4. Randy A says:

The best browser in the mobile business is the webOS browser. Sorry.

Even with webOS gone (seemingly) I do not want an iPhone.

    • George DW says:

Isn't the webOS browser basically identical to iPhone's? Maybe more recent versions have made it significantly different/better, but it was very very similar when I tried it on the original Pre.

      • Anonymous says:

No, it is slower and as Seb said, doesn't correctly render every pages.

The only thing that webOS does better is Flash.

    • Anonymous says:

Actually, the webOS browser is not all it's cracked up to be. I can think of tons of sites- mainly tumblr blogs- that it renders incorrectly, and it only gets a 92 on the acid test. And that's when you swipe away these two SVG downloads that are NOT supposed to appear. Anything below 100 is a failure. Well, Mobile Safari get's 100. Can't beat that. Bad standards compliance and improper rendering is not a good browser, and this is coming from someone who uses a Palm Pre2 as their phone every day. And I had a Pre Plus before that.

  5. Anonymous says:

Ha! That picture is the same as my avatar - because I've already made the move. Last October I was fed up with the questionable moves being made by HP. I'm not saying my suspicions are now confirmed but...well, you know. Anyway, I never - ever - wanted to go Android; yuck! iOS was always more polished and had better hardware in the iPhone (specifically iPhone 4). For me, it was a no brainer. I'm completely satisfied with my transition and have since purchased an iPad 2.

I would have to say that if you are webOS user looking to transition to another mobile OS - you won't be disappointed with iOS. There are a lot of great Android devices out there too. But I prefer Apple's ecosystem compared to Android's fragmentation. I mean c'mon, every week it seems like there is a new device.

  6. Orion Antares says:

Android is the next best thing.

  7. ex Webos user says:

i use a palm pre i was holding out for a webos slab phone looks like its not going to happen any time soon. I am going to wait for the Iphone5 to come out now. HP go f urself.

  8. Anonymous says:

I'm not switching from WebOS to ios but I'm switching from Android to the iphone 5 when it comes out.

  9. Jmckay445 says:

Already have an iPhone and iPad

  10. Matthew Koss says:

Palm Pre Plus owner on Verizon. I get to upgrade in October. I'm 90% leaning towards iPhone at this point (especially if the new one is out in October), but may consider Android if I find one I really like. Not considering either Blackberry or Windows phone.

  11. Randy Ojeda says:

Already halfway there. Typing this from my iPad 2, dumping my Pre when iPhone 5 comes out.

  12. Joe444 says:

I had a windows phone.. I liked it.. But its garbage compared to the iphone 4! Hellz yea!

  13. Antiponjin says:

    HAHAHAHA LOL! Windowz phone!!!!!!

  14. George DW says:

Anybody switching from webOS to iOS should check out multifl0w (for jailbroken devices), which gives you something similar to the webOS task switcher UI.

  15. Anonymous says:

I've been planning on doing this for months now, way before webOS was axed by HP. I've been waiting and waiting for the iPhone 5. And there's no way in hell I'm not gonna buy one as soon as I can. I'm sick of this glitchy Pre 2 anyway. I'm sick of the tiny screen. I'm sick of the TERRIBLE battery life. And I'm sick of not having the apps I want. I'm getting an iPhone 5, no doubt about.

However, I'm not abandoning my TouchPad for an iPad. I just love my TouchPad too much. When it breaks, if there's no webOS tablet made by anyone (I can dream! Samsung...), then yes, I will get an iPad. But that will be a sad day for me.

  16. DiamondDNice says:

pre minus user here but like i've been waiting to switch to the iphone since at least at least xmas last year.

another point: i think there is a slant towards iphone in this poll because on the precentral poll the majority of people say they are going to android.

but precentral has a lot of apple haters there so that may be the reason.

  17. Paxmos says:

These surveys are just useless, can be definitely biased.

    • Adam Fuentes says:

I got an iPad 2-32GB for $ 23.87 and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. 18. nameRequired says:

Call me crazy, but after that fire sale Im dying my @ss off trying to find a dang touchPad for a hundred bucks. That new os experience would totally compensate for not having an ipad 3 NOW.

  19. Nick Powers says:

I'm actually doing the exact opposite of ditching WebOS for iOS - I picked up one of the fire-sale Touchpads to broaden my horizon. I'd had a hard time justifying a second iPad in the house, but at $150 for a 32GB Touchpad, there wasn't much my wife could say :)

If i were a webos user, I'd switch to Windows Phone just because a lot of the experience with Webos could be replicated on WP7 more so than android/ios

  22. Anonymous says:

I wanted a 49 day old hp Failpad to TTS with my 49 day old MS Kin so that I may share the same Guinness page between them.

  23. Anonymous says:

I am not sure. The reason for using webos instead of an iPhone was not that the iPhone is bad. It is a totally different style. I still have my HP Veer. It is a good phone. A fraction as expensive as the iPhone. With most decent apps which I need, although I sometimes would like to have some which are only available on the iPhone. But the main difference is: webOS was never a locked in jail experience. Apple is smooth and great hardware. But therefore I guess, most would switch to android easier...

  24. Anonymous says:

webOS isn't dead just yet, so I'll just wait and see how things unfold. It's a nice enough platform to not make me want anything else other than different hardware. There's a few things I've grown accustomed to that neither Android or iOS can offer, and no, it's not JUST the notifications and the intuitive multitasking.

  25. Erik G says:

I've used BlackBerry OS, Android and now currently using iOS (iPhone 4 running iOS 5 Beta 6). That being said iOS is by far the most polished OS of the three I've used with BlackBerry second followed by Android. What I hated about android was that there was not any kind of support in terms of OS updates what's so ever. One OS update in over a year that I owned the Droid Incredible = FAIL were as Apple is constantly making improvements and pushing out updates to keep the OS up to date.

  27. Brett Grayson says:

Treo 600 => 650 => 755 => Pre....1.8 years into owning the Pre and the phone woke me up in the middle of the night with its LED because it was TAKING PICTURES ALL BY ITSELF as it was sitting on the touchstone. A faulty touchscreen was just one of the many problems I had with the hardware and the software. I tried to give them a chance...I tried.

I decided I 'want my $&@# to work' and replaced our Pres with iPhone 4s in November. I miss some of the features, but none of the headaches.

  28. Dustin Osburn says:

I went from iOS (ATT iPhone 3G) to webOS (Verizon Pre Plus) when I couldn't stand ATT's terrible coverage in my area any longer. I've just been waiting for the chance to get back to iOS. I went with webOS over Android initially because it seemed to be a more polished interface, but unfortunately I didn't realize how stagnant the platform was already.
