Hands on with olloclip, a wide angle, fisheye, and macro lens for iPhone
At CES 2012, we had the opportunity to check out an olloclip, an accessory for the iPhone that converts the lens to either wide angle, fisheye, or macro. It simply slides onto the corner of your iPhone and is small enough to carry around in your pocket.
After the demonstration, I picked one up for myself, and Rene and I used it for filming during the remainder of our time at CES - it made a huge difference.
The olloclip is available now for $69.99.

This thing is awesome. Had it since November.
This thing is really cool but it won't work with any screen protectors that you have on your iPhone. When you try to slip it on the iPhone it will push the screen protectors off. Not cool.
I always have a screen protector on one side of my iphone and I have no probs with sliding on the olloclip (:
One side may work but I have screen protectors on both from and back and the lens will not fit.
I watched the video portion where they put it on as a wide angle lens, and to me it looked like it had no effect at all. I did see that the fish eye and macro worked though. Can anyone verify that the wide angle lens actually does make a difference?
It definitely makes a difference. I left mine with Rene until I see him again at Macworld so he could continue filming with it at CES, but when I get it back, I'll be sure to do some comparison shots and post them up!

Reference cases, their site states it was design to work without a case. I am sure some will be able to get it on with a thin case, but it will not work with all cases, because it was design that way. May be a future version will have that ability.
I received one recently and used it like crazy on my last trip.
Wide-Angle: works well, and provides a wider angle without TOO much distortion.
Fish-Eye: Looks GREAT! Center focus is very clear; edges get a little softer. It takes some practice to avoid getting your FINGER in the picture...seems it is almost MORE than 180 degree view.
Macro: I haven't used this as much, but it can do some EXTREME close-up shots (the fiber texture in our office copy paper for example). Lighting can be tricky since distances are very close.
A few notes: - not compatible with the flash - lens caps could be tighter...keep a finger on them while walking - not case compatible, like ALL similar accessories. Just keep a good grip!
It's a VERY fun gadget.
I posted a review in the Accessories Forum last week. The only screen protectors I seem to be able to use it with are the Power Support HD antiglare ones from the Apple store. It mangles Zaggs.
I would like to see an indepth review of this product by one of our trusty iMore crew memebers. Leanna, you say you already own this? And Rene is using it for a while? I'm looking forward to a review feature on Olloclip soon.
Hey guys...have had this lens since it came out in August. I have a review on YouTube called Olloclio Unwrapped. Hey Leanne, as far as video recording with wide angle lens...it's true, it doesnt make as much of a difference. As you guys know, video recording on the iPhones kind of zooms in a bit, as opposed to capturing pictures. But it does increase the view a bit as if you where taking a picture. Pretty good lens...LOVE IT!!!
Dang...I had this idea years ago. I used a peep hole for a door to create a fisheye effect. Should have sold that!!!! It would have been cheaper...lol.
