Apple Pay pays off for Apple

Apple Pay pays off for Apple

A report suggests that Apple may make as much as 0.0015% of every transaction handled through Apple Pay, a new payments platform that was introduced alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This means that through Apple Pay, like the App Store, Apple has found another venue to earn additional revenue on top of iPhone hardware sales.

iPhone 6 preorders set new overnight record for Apple

iPhone 6 preorders set new overnight record for Apple

Apple, typically tight-lipped about such things, says that pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new overnight record for the company. The newest iPhones went live for pre-order at midnight Pacific time last night, and while there was plenty of glitching along the way, that didn't stop many from getting in their order. Apple isn't alone in the new bigger iPhones being an overnight pre-order hit — AT&T's said that pre-order demand for the phones was greater than the last two phone launches.

iOS 8 SMS sharing between iPhone and iPad will now arrive in October

Apple has made a slight change to its website detailing continuity in iOS 8, with a note that the handoff of SMS/MMS between iOS devices will now be coming in October. No mention is made on the site about a new date for iOS 8's voice call handoff feature, so it seems like that might come with the initial release of iOS 8 on Wednesday, September 17.

How to enable automatic downloads for music, books, and apps with iTunes in the Cloud

If you own both an iPhone and iPad, iTunes in the Cloud, which is part of iCloud, lets you easily sync your content from one to the other with no work on your part. For example, if you downloaded an app on your iPad, it can automatically appear on your iPhone as well if you have automatic downloads for apps enabled. The same holds true for music and iBooks purchases. All you have to do is enable automatic downloads on all your iOS devices.

AT&T not in a rush, will offer Wi-Fi calling in 2015

AT&T has plans to start offering Wi-Fi calling support by 2015. The system would allow subscribers to place calls using their phone's Wi-Fi connection instead of the cellular network. If that sounds familiar, it should, as T-Mobile has offered Wi-Fi calling for years now, and even dedicated their Uncarrier 7.0 press event to expanding on the concept.

Blue Mo-Fi Headphones Review

Ever since I started working in the tech field and traveling more often than I ever did, I've always been in pursuit of the best set of headphones. Not just for podcasting or zoning out at home, but for when I'm sitting in airports, on a plane, or just trying to put myself to sleep in a hotel room. I'm not a huge fan of earbuds, so I've opted for over-the-ear headphones in my search. Some of my favorites in the past have been the Urbanears Zinken and the Bose Around Ear Headphones — though I've been through quite a few sets trying to find one that suits me best. I recently received a pair of Blue's new Mo-Fi headphones however, changing everything I thought a solid pair of headphones should be.

Happy pre-order day, everyone! After some fits and starts, pre-ordering for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus got underway at Apple's online store and on cell carrier web sites in the wee hours this morning. I awoke this morning to find a Twitter feed full of announcements from friends and colleagues sharing details on what model they've reserved. I'm sitting this one out. Let me explain why.
