There's an old saying among computer users who tend towards the conservative — wait for the update to the update. It means that, when a new version of software comes out, they avoid it. They also avoid the urgent update that typically follows it. They avoid until the one comes out that's had time to address most if not all of the early issues. Then they jump on it. Blinkbox today announced that iPad and Android tablet owners will be able to enjoy playback without an internet connection, thanks to a new offline mode. Dropbox's integration with Office is complete, you can now edit docs on the fly
The Dropbox team have announced a handy new feature inside their official apps for the iPhone and iPad. With Microsoft Office documents open for viewing, it's now possible to hit the edit button to launch the installed Office suite for a more feature-rich editing experience. Once all changes have been saved everything is automatically saved to the cloud, thanks to both parties working on support bridges between the two services.

Union calls for leadership from Apple on treatment of security guards
As unions in Silicon Valley are pushing for better conditions for contract employees, including security guards, Apple finds itself caught in a labor debate. The Service Employees International Union and civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse Jackson are pushing for better working conditions for contracted security guards, and the two are hoping that they can convince Apple to lend its leadership to the cause.

GT Advanced creditors to review Apple documents ahead of December settlement hearing
Late last week, we reported that GT Advanced's creditors had requested an extension in the hearing on Apple's settlement with the sapphire manufacturer. Competitors reportedly take aim as Apple/Google search deal nears expiration
It appears that both Yahoo and Microsoft are both lobbying Apple to try and replace Google as the default search engine in Safari. While other retailers are gearing up for Black Friday, Apple and its developers are going (RED) as part of a commitment to fight AIDS, and you can also help by downloading apps that come with special (RED) in-app purchases. Apple's GarageBand and a number of third-party apps are all part of the campaign where you can add special levels, expansion packs, or themes. The (RED) promotion runs through December 7th.
