Amazon Instant Video brings ad-supported streaming, new playback controls and more

Amazon Instant Video

Amazon Instant Video for iPhone and iPad has been updated, allowing non-Prime members to stream the first episodes of certain TV shows for free. The update also includes new playback controls and other improvements.

The Instant Video app now lets users who are not members of Amazon Prime, and thus lack access to Prime Instant Video, stream the first episodes of select TV shows for free. However, these episodes do come with advertising. Ads will play both before and during playback. Shows with free first episodes on Amazon include Hannibal, Orphan Black, and Veronica Mars, along with recent HBO addtions like The Sopranos, True Blood, and Boardwalk Empire. The first free episodes can be found in their own in Instant Video's Home tab.

Amazon Instant Video 2.7 also has other improvements, including new playback controls. One-touch play and pause, ten second skip, and a Next Episode button allow for faster navigation and playback of videos. This update also speeds up playback start after pressing the play button on iOS 6 or later. There are also a number of bug fixes and stability improvements.

You can download Amazon Instant Video from the App Store right now.
