What apps are still missing from the iPhone and iPad App Store?

What apps are still missing from the iPhone and iPad App Store?

When you look at Windows Phone or BlackBerry 10 it's easy to see the well-known iOS and Android apps that are missing from their respective app stores. Even with Android, you can look at popular iOS apps like Tweetbot, Fantastical, or Letterpress, not to mention every single one of Apple's apps...
Can't find the App Store app you're looking for? Try searching differently!

Ask iMore: How the #@$& do you find anything with App Store search?

App Store search is horribly broken. We all know that. So it came as no surprise when a reader asked me how we — the people who write about them all day — find anything on the App Store. The short answer is a little creativity and a lot of tenacity. The long answer is best given in the form of a...

Go to the App Store and rate your 5 favorite apps right now!

I too hate it when Instagram and other apps continuously popup pleas for ratings. It's an interception of user experience, which makes it jarring, and it happens over and over again, whether I rate the app or not, which makes it intolerable. I understand completely John Gruber's feelings on...

App Store ratings are broken, let's get rid of them

App Store reviews have been a thorn in the side of developers for about as long as they've been around. And yet another story is making its rounds on the Internet to remind us of App Store reviews' ugly side. At their best, App Store reviews give customers an opportunity to share thoughtful...

Why developers beg for App Store ratings

Why developers beg for App Store ratings

"Rate this app!" popup requesters — you might know them from such popular apps as Instagram or Google+ — have been the subject of a lot of controversy lately. Some think they serve no customer-centric purpose and have no place in any app ever, others that they're the only way for developers to...

Researchers claim iOS multitasking exploit could allow taps, clicks to be monitored on iPhone, iPad

An exploit in the way iOS handles multitasking may allow the touch-equivalent of keylogger-type attacks — where your input is recorded in order to discover your passwords and other data — to work not only on jailbroken iPhones and iPads, but on any device. It would require a malicious app to be...
How to disable Touch ID for iTunes and App Store purchases

How to disable Touch ID for iTunes and App Store purchases

Touch ID is a super convenient way to unlock your iPhone 5s while keeping it secure at the same time. You can also use it to make App Store and iTunes purchases by default. However, if you've registered other family member's prints and you don't want them to be able to buy things on your account...

iPad starting to infiltrate classrooms throughout the UK

We have heard quite a few stories recently about the iPad being used in schools in the United States. It now appears that a similar roll out is starting to happen overseas too, with the UK leading the way.

According to The Telegraph, Longfield Academy in Kent will start to use iPads from the start of the new school year; which starts next month. The scheme was announced to parents earlier in the year with the school informing them that young people enjoy learning through technology.

Apple updating iPad App Store with better category pages

It looks like Apple is finally updating the iPad version of the on-device App Store with better category pages... at least for some of the categories like Games and Education. (Desktop iTunes seems to be getting them as well but no love for iPhone so far.) The new category pages look a lot like the main App Store features page now, with big billboards and splashier graphics.

iOS 5 getting better iTunes and App Store download management? [Updated]

Oh my, could iOS 5 finally fix one of my longest standing pet peeves? If the latest betas are any indication, it might! Tap buy (download or install) in the App Store and instead of being torn out and thrust back to your home screen, the app simply starts to download in the background and the button greys out when it's done.

iTunes has also been improving over the last couple of betas. Now, if you buy an album, you can see the download progress of each track right in the list.

I'm so happy, I might even update when it's finally released!

Google+ app updated, can now be installed on iPad, iPod touch support (?!)

Google has just updated its Google+ iOS app, claiming it now supports the iPad and iPod touch. Sure it works fine on the iPod touch but incredibly Google's "iPad support" comes not in the form of a universal binary with proper, native iPad UI, but simply the ability to now install the Google+ iPhone app on the iPad and run it either windowed or in fuzzy 2x mode. Such a disappointment! On a brighter note, if you're a developer, it does now work with the iOS 5 beta!

Other new features in the update are improved Huddle settings and aggregated circle notifications.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation releases FBI Child ID app

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released an iPhone app called FBI Child ID. If your child goes missing, it must be one of the most stressful things to deal with in life. Most times they just lose track of time and return safe and well, maybe just a few hours late. If they don’t however, you need to know what to do and be able to react as fast as possible. The free FBI Child ID app provides a convenient place to electronically store photos and vital information about your child so that it’s literally right at hand if your child goes missing. You can show the pictures and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers on the spot. Using a special tab on the app, you can also quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities with a few clicks. The app also includes tips on keeping children safe as well as specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing

FBI Child ID is free to download and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad; running iOS 4.2 or later. Screenshots after the break.
