Apple is helping to sponsor the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee

Apple is joining in as an official sponsor of Super Bowl 50, sort of. The company is one of the many businesses that have signed up to be a sponsor of the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee. The game itself is being held in the San Francisco area at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

Apple is not actually sponsoring Super Bowl 50 itself, so we should not expect the company's logo to be all over the place when the game itself is held on Feb. 7. So what does the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee do, exactly? Yahoo Finance explains:

The host committee manages everything from public transportation to logistics for the game to financing it. And this year's host committee received no money from the state government or local tourism authority, as is typically the case for host committees. Instead, Super Bowl 50 was privately financed with money from blue-chip corporate sponsors. It has raised $50 million to date from sponsors including Apple and Uber, though the committee won't disclose how much each individual sponsor gave.

Apple also won't comment on why it has decided to be a sponsor, but the article speculates the company has made this move in part to get some respect from local Silicon Valley sports fans.
