Apple releases iOS 7.0.4 with FaceTime call fix and more

Apple has just released iOS 7.0.4, a point update for this year's big iOS 7 software. In addition to the usual bug fixes and improvements, Apple lists a fix for hanging FaceTime calls.

As always, you can update over-the-air (OTA) and in-place - the fastest and most efficient way to do it - by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Otherwise, you can tether up to iTunes and do a full backup, install, and restore over USB.

Once you've gotten iOS 7.0.4 up and running, let me know how it's working for you!

Apple releases iOS 7.0.4 with FaceTime call fix and more

That is some excellent news. I've been trying to use FaceTime Audio more for my phone calls and they've been failing to connect a good portion of the time.

Out of curiosity, has anyone noticed that the tethered update (for iPhone 5 A1428) is 1.24GB? What am I missing here? Seems huge for a bug fix & FaceTime iterative update.

There is still a very noticeable big lag when going into spotlight search. Using iphone 5s. And a vert strange graphic glitch when opening a saved safari home screen wed site which only displays a green rectangle on top right of the screen with no time displayed .

Tried it a few times first time lag. Second and third no lag. iPhone 5. Not sure if it happens a lot but I love the new spotlight.

I guess I got lucky with not having all of those bugs. There will always be some bugs and i am sure with 7.1 or 7.0.5 whatever they call the next update they will patch even more bugs. Hopefully they can squash some more of the bugs people are having with the next update. It would be nice to have them eliminate the bugs all in one update but that is impossible.

Hopefully this improves battery life and fixes some of the stuttering with iOS 7 when you close out of apps.

Sent from the iMore App

I thought I was the only one that noticed the stuttering. However, I think the issue is isolated to the iphone 5s. The iphone 5's do not exhibit this behavior. If you return from the multitasking window back to a home screen, look at the top status bar when it does. You will notice the stutter.

Some users are experiencing issues while trying to update to this particular version. "Unable to install update. An error occurred installing iOS 7.0.4" Anyone else having problems?

I had the same problem with the phone tethered over USB. It did the update despite telling be it had failed. I had to go through the process of setting the phone up and selected restore from back up which was only a few hours old. I got a message stating the back up failed, yet most of my apps are on the phone just not organized into groups as I had them. It also now give me 100+ errors syncing music stating it cant find the files. What a disaster this has turned out to be!!!

Did update. Hope to get better battery performance. Other than that I haven't had any issues, running on a 5s

Sent from the iMore App

iPhone 5S, I still have off, and on iMessage sending problems. It is hard to pin down. Sometimes it flys, and other times It fails to send, but always sends the second time. Receive is no problems. May be this update will improve it also.

Sent from the iMore App

Was a quick and painless update on my 5s, don't use FaceTime very much so hopefully there are some other behind the scenes fixes as well.

One question, who's that girl?
If she's going out with Rene it'll be one more reason to be jealous of him...

Sent from the iMore App

Just now trying it out, but so far so good. I use FaceTime Audio a lot at home as AT&T has little to no reception there... I had thought there were issues with my network, ha.

Will try it tonight when the boyfriend gets off work!

Has anyone else had issues losing connection to their car through Bluetooth? When I upgraded my 5 to iOS 7 it would not connect from time to time. When I upgraded my phone to the 5s it does the samething. On both my 2009 Tahoe and my wife's 2014 Fusion. I posted on an Apple Forum, but have never heard back from them.

I just got the 5c. Last night, it was connected and working fine. Second trip, it suddenly was not discoverable and has remained a ghost. Tried deleting from the car, restarting phone, all of the fixes, and nothing has worked. Hoping 7.0.4 upgrade fixed this, but I have to wait until the icloud backup finishes... whenever that will be

Yup I have the same issues. I had this problem with the 4s with iOS6. Upgraded to the 5 with iOS7 and it was perfect. Now this iOS7.0.4 update it starts doing it again. Disconnects from my car every few minutes and it's beyond irritating! Uconnect 200 in my 2013 dodge dart. Apple needs to fix this NOW!

I've been on the fence with going over to iOS7 with an iPhone 4. For any of those users how has it been? And if you're a 4 user, how's the new update so far? The battery life is my worry.

Sent from the iMore App

It honestly is not meant to be updated on iPhone 4 it takes up too much space. My recommendation would be to wait till you can upgrade the phone itself

Sent from the iMore App

You will definitely regret it if you do. The phone is super laggy not quite but almost unusable. This shouldn't have been released for the iPhone 4.

I regretted upgrading the iPad 3 but love it on the iPad Air so go figure! I have friends that are happy with it on the 4S but be warned I think I recommend staying behind the iOS 6 and enjoying the classic iOS experience while you still can. I'm not letting my sister upgrade her iPhone 4. No way!

stay off the fence....back away....and just do not upgrade. buy a new phone because you will hate the experience. --iPhone 4 with ios 7.0.3 user (have yet to update). Oye trust me. You'll want to smash it to the ground. You're lucky!

I have iPhone 4 (6.1.2) and think about upgrading to 7.0.4 too. I read some posts and said that users who turn on "Reduce Motion" in Setting/General/Accessibility will improve the speed. Did anyone of you try it? Does it work? Thanks!

No it makes no difference whatever. Pity I upgraded from 7.0.3. It was faster on my iphone4. Still way better than Android though.

I'm really surprised I been expecting 7.1 for the longest time now. But I do have a podcast and sync bug that has driven me to my knees. So I'll be happy to see if they have been squashed.

Sent from the iMore App

iOS 6.1 came in January 2013 following launch the previous September... I wouldn't expect iOS 7.1 until after the first of the year - unless it is announced otherwise sooner.

I think there will probably be a 7.0.5 maybe 7.0.6 before they go that route unless they just have one huge bug fixer as 7.1

Sent from the iMore App

Still haven't seen the update. Wondering if it's being rolled out in phases???

Sent from the iMore App

I don't see any difference I really wish they would address the sluggish animations already seeing that the 4 and 4s have this issue more then the others and yes I know that you can turn the animations off but even with them off IOS 6 seemed a lot faster then IOS 7

Sent from the iMore App

That has more to do with the slower hardware. It's hard when apple updates so far back to make the OS that's aimed to fly on top of the line hardware run without lag on lower end, older hardware

Sent from the iMore App

I have been looking for this update for so long to see if apple would fix some lagging bugs but I guess the FaceTime bug fix is cool too even though it didn't happen to me

Sent from the iMore App

Gaaaar. You are suffering from Safari crashes too? Yes I hope so but don't hold your breath. It's low memory in the diagnostic logs. Crashed like mad on the iPad 3 too. Noticeably more on websites with crazy amounts of comments, while commenting or typing comments. The Verge and BGR make Safari commit memory suicide.

About to update now Apple as been doing a great job updating and fixing random bugs and glad to see its continuing

Sent from the iMore App

I love new updates! I'm glad for this one in particular; my iPad Air has been crashing occasionally. Apple support says it's either Tweetbot, Chrome, Flipboard or Facebook that is causing them and the hardware shows no anomalies. Hopefully this new update helps to alleviate the issues.

Sent from the iMore App

It's nice that the updates are nice and small now instead of forcing me to download 500 MB for nothing.

Sent from the iMore App

That's one plus of it being delta updates via OTA. Not the whole update just what got patched/changed

Sent from the iMore App

Anyone else end up with this update calling for a full system restore? I started the update and it instantly wen into recovery mode.

Happening to me too. Updated my iphone 5 OTA then it asked to be connected to itunes. Then itunes said phone is in recovery mode. As I write this itunes is downlaoding "iPhone Software Update". Meanwhile I can't use my phone.

No further issues as far as I can tell. Phone is working fine now but I lost all changes like text messages after the last time I synced with iTunes (before recovery mode). Good luck.

It's working well for me so far. I guess I got lucky and never had a ton of bugs to begin with. Always nice to see bug fixes even if they are for smaller bugs. Because no bugs are good bugs.

My iPhone 4S delta was 17.4 MB... It took a while to handle the update, but so far, everything seems to be the same - if I hadn't performed the update myself, I'd never notice.

Sent from the iMore App

Hope that this update will start to resolve the many crash bugs I'm experiencing on both iPhone 5s and iPad Air.

Sent from the iMore App

More bug fixes please Apple! iOS7 is still really buggy on my ipad 3. Im considering buying the new retina mini because of the bugs.

Sent from the iMore App

I didn't have any problems with FaceTime or anything else for that matter. I'm kind of scared to update because I don't want it to break my otherwise perfect 5S

Sent from the iMore App

Perfect timing. I was having issues on my iPhone earlier today and had to resort to using my iPad which seemed to work perfectly. Hopefully this update will resolve those issues on my phone.

Sent from the iMore App

Bought my iPhone 5c last week. Now it is second upgrade. Hope they keep up the pace in future.

Sent from the iMore App

I am finding that since the update my phone is very slow on changing from landscape to portrait view. Anyone else having this issue?

Sent from the iMore App

I was hoping they would deal with the decline call bug which only happens called with phone locked. I hope future updates will sort out low light issue on video camera on 5s as well.

Sent from the iMore App

I've been having so much trouble with FaceTime, I hope that this update fixes it!! I'm so sick of the pausing and losing connection... Get it together!!

Sent from the iMore App

Is anyone using FaceTime audio
For calls? Haven't bc we have unlimited minutes but have been wanting to try it out for kicks. Seems like this would be very useful to a lot of folks.

Sent from the iMore App

Finally i can talk with my friends as well with this new update , gotta download now

Sent from the iMore App

Seems about the same for me. It seemed worse at first but I'm at about the same battery level that I normally would be at this time of the day.

Sent from the iMore App

Cool- will check it out and report. Any update is worth a try in my opinion. Love stability improvements

Sent from the iMore App

Personally u haven't have any problem in FaceTime call since iOS 7, but trying to download t.4 now, lets see whats going to change

Sent from the iMore App

I guess I've been lucky. I haven't had too much trouble with the FaceTime calls. Good to see a fix all the same.

Well noticed a bug with my battery. Battery was lower than normal after work tonight (I used my phone more than normal today, too) so went to plug it in since it was at 8%. Upon plugging it in, it jumps immediately to 12% unplug - 8%. Thinking a full discharge before charging it up fully may help.

If you're into iOS 7, save yourselves a headache oR a gazillion, and just do NOT upgrade on the iPhone 4. I truly wish i never did because I never saved my SHSH Blobs therefore, with all the great and powerful tools out there, I just cannot downgrade to 6.1.3 without my specific blobs. And the great cydia ones were corrupted so yay me still cannot. Waaaaaaaaah. Love iOS 7, but it's just not sexy on the 4.

After update, i got multiple notifications from whatsapp app, which i never had this experience before, the notifications showed up even after i red the message,

Sent from the iMore App

I'm thinking about updating to iOS 7.0.4 but is it worth it? I don't have problems with FaceTime or anything.

Sent from the iMore App

Has anyone else noticed that when you use four fingers to return to the home screen (instead of the home button) the fixed app bar becomes white for as second and then returns to normal color? Been present since the first release of ios 7.

I had hoped that this would provide a fix for the 4s wifi problem but unfortunately not. I appear to have gone backwards. At least before I could select wifi and it would try to find a network (and never succeed) but now the button is greyed out!
This is a nightmare - a 400 quid phone with wifi rendered useless because of a software update. I wish that I'd never moved to iOS7

I have updated my iPhone 5, and my wife's. No problems, but then we had no Facetime problem that I know of, as I very rarely use it. It did, however, fix a problem (partly) with printing from the iPhone to my non-airprint printer via NetGear router. I am able to print pictures from the photo app, but can't seem to print an email. Oh well.
]

Anyone notice Mail now tells you how many messages are selected. I have three email accounts so new messages are sometimes hidden further down the screen. I hated thinking I got to them all and I would have to go back in and search for one or two further down.

Sent from the iMore App

My iPhone 5 notified me of this literally as soon as I plugged it in last night. Normally it takes up to a few days for it to notify me. I normally end up checking for the software update myself and then doing it. My wife's 4S still hasn't said anything about it, though.

I didnt had any problems with FaceTime audio before This update.
And since i installed This update everything still works as before... So no news for me here! :(

Sent from the iMore App

I started the update last night and got tired of waiting and went to bed. It finally updated this morning after a restart. Maybe something was up with my phone. Hmmm.

Sent from the iMore App

I had the same problem with battery life and storage issues with the roll out of iOS 7. When I plugged my iPad mini and my iPhone 5 into iTunes I noticed a lot of space being taken up by other. I did a cloud backup and restored both. The battery life is back to normal and my available space increased drastically. My mini went from 9.5 gb of other to 1.2 my iPhone went from 1.45 gb of other down to .38. Might be worth a shot if you see other as a big space problem. I wonder if iOS 6 wasn't deleted correctly during the upgrades.

Sent from the iMore App

Battery life issues are probably due to auto-updating of apps. It happens in the background and there's no indication of network activity as your apps are updated. And a large number of apps are no iOS-7-only, so when you first install iOS 7, they will all be updated.

Of course, you could turn off Automatic Download of apps in Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Updates. But I keep it on. One less step to do.

I haven't noticed anything awful or more awesome just yet! Were there any new features added?

Sent from the iMore App

If you're already on ios 7 and want to update it's safe to update and still be jailbreakable in the future. In other words this update won't affect an ios 7 jailbreak.

Sent from the iMore App

My iMessages won't send right away. The delivered message delays and takes an extended period of time to move for messages. I'm assuming a delay. So now I get another issue with iMessages! I knew I shouldn't have downloaded this.

Sent from the iMore App

This update was a fast and simple download for me. I don't normally have any issues but this one seemed extra smooth.

Sent from the iMore App

I never really had any issues with facetime calls over wifi. Since I'm on att prepaid with my iPhone 5 att will not allow facetime over celluar or facetime audio. So could someone vouch for the bugs being removed in this update?

Sent from the iMore App

I still have iOS 7.0.2 (already installed when I bought it) running on my 5s. After reading some of the problems from the 7.0.3, I decided not to upgrade. I will wait to see what 7.1 brings.

Sent from the iMore App

Since this update my phone has reset 3 times. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sent from the iMore App

Installed 7.0.4 on an iPad mini, and and iPad2. Each device still crashes and reboots when in a FaceTime call. The patch did not work for us.
We also have two iPhone4s', exact same thing.
All background apps are closed, devices reboot after about 2-3min in a FaceTime call.

Updated to 7.0.4 on my 4s... Huge mistake. Takes about 10 seconds for phone app and other utility apps to load/open. My phone has been a pile of crap since I updated to 6.1.3. Lost access to WiFi figured upgrade to 7 would fix the problem but no such luck.

So we're going to have an update every couple of weeks or so? Not like Apple with so many bugs. I'm still on 7.0.2 on all my devices since the 7.0.3 update brought some issues with it. Personally never had any problem with FaceTime calls but, occasionally, experience the blue screen and reboot of my 5s. Anyone knows if this issue has been solved?
Thanks for the info.

I for one would love to be able to opt out of receiving the 'turn on wifi to improve location accuracy' message... Perhaps with the next update?

Sent from the iMore App

I have iPhone 4s and with iOs 7.0.3 its working just fine, a few crashing but still better than 7.0.4! Now my phone got slower and wifi always disconnecting. And its hard to reconnect again. I wish i never updated to iOs 7. I think its only good for iPhone 5 and later. :(

Hey is have iPhone 4S and I have a prob that when I load iTunes Store it keeps on loading nothing other I can't Access the music videos films. Any help what's your condition do you had that too plz reply

I haven't really had any serious problems with my Facetime video/voice calls so far, but I do have noticed FT calls fail to go through a time or two. Either way I'm glad they are taking care of it.

I started the update via WiFi, but my iPad4 quickly rebooted and gave me the "Must connect to iTunes" screen. When connected to iTunes I'm getting a message that my iPad is in recovery mode and needs to be reset to factory defaults, wiping everything. I can't the home page up on my iPad either through resets or power downs and like an idiot I didn't do a backup before starting the download. Do I really need to wipe my iPad to restore? Anyone have similar proplems?

I have iphone 5c and with the ios 7.0.4 i cant send imessage and it make my battery run out wayy too FAST!!!
FIXSS ASAP!!!
Thank you...

Apple are taking the P#ss!! After downloading ios7.0.4 on my ipad 2I've had wifi problems apps not running properly. After the ios download and my wifi not working I went to back up my ipad and guess what it wouldn't back up properly either. As a result I've lost apps and content that I've paid for and cannot now recover! ITS TANTAMOUNT TO THEFT!!!!!!! F#*%#ng sort it out Apple. Next time I'm getting a windows or android product. In my opinion they're better now!

Facetime worked perfectly with 7.0.0 and 7.0.1. With 7.0.2 the iPhone 4 would not register Facetime without a SIMM in place - but worked reasonably well. With 7.0.3 - Facetime no longer working at all - SIMM or no SIMM. No improvement with 7.0.4. I am beginning to fear that changes in firmware may make going back to fix problems impossible.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

My backup Android (ICS) phone does what it is supposed to do, often needing more keystrokes - but works flawlessly, and none of the ITunes BeeEss. "Facetime" is THE key to maintaining a competitive edge for Apple. Without "Facetime" - never again will I waste money on the Apple platform.

Since installing ios 7.0.4 on my ipad mini, I have lost almost everything on my facebook. All my news feeds are gone. I only have a few of my ios pictures pictures left. Even my contacts are gone. What do I do to get things back! Please help!

Now since I updated to the 7 the typing doesn't keep up when I use safari. And when I use safari for Facebook I can't even update a status. And my alarms for my phone dont always work. They need to fix the bugs that just occurred with the 7.0.4 update as well.

The v7.0.4 doesn't allow me to "Move and Scale" after I take a photo and want to make it my wallpaper. Anyone have any ideas? Also, what's with the colored bar that appears at the bottom of the screen after certain tasks are done (i don't know which activity causes the bar to disappear, but, if your wallpaper isn't the right color, it's a pain in the butt to see it there.) Thanks! jt

Yes the new 7.0.4 update has made the camera blurry and the only way it seems to be working is in reverse as when you are taking photos of your self or something facing you- hope they come up with a fix for the video drivers in their next update

Recently got a 5c iphone. Notification of iOS 7.0.4 software upgrade, but I can't download it, even if plugged into my computer. The "download and install" panel is not active. What gives?

Just got the iPad mini 2 days ago. Love it! But, this morning it prompted me to update Facetime, so I did. After the update, everything looks different! Why? I thought it was only updating Facetime and not all my other app icons, note pad, slide to unlock, etc. Maybe if it came this way I wouldn't have missed anything. BTW, I'm a newbie to Apple, so please excuse me if I sound like a novice, but I am ;)
