Apple TV jailbreak updated for iOS 5.1

How to access movies in iCloud from your AppleTV

If you updated your Apple TV recently to 5.0 (iOS 5.1) you can now jailbreak it again. FireCore has just updated their popular Seas0nPass jailbreak tool to offer tethered support for the newest firmware on the second generation Apple TV. If you picked up a new Apple TV, you'll have to sit this one out for now.

The current version of Seas0nPass will be tethered for anyone using it on iOS 5. This basically means you'll have to perform a tethered boot with a computer if your Apple TV gets powered off. If you're debating whether or not to update or tethered jailbreak, you may want to take into consideration whether or not the plug-ins you'd like to use are compatible with iOS 5 yet. I've found tethered jailbreaks to be a bit of a headache on devices like the Apple TV.

  • Couch Surfer (works)
  • Last.fm (works)
  • Maintenance (works)
  • Media Player (works)
  • NitoTV (works)
  • RSS Feeds (works)
  • Weather (works)
  • Overflow (not working)
  • Plex (not working)
  • Remote HD (not working)
  • Rowmote (not working)
  • XBMC (not working)

As you can see from above, a lot of popular applications and plug-ins aren't yet compatible. This may be something you want to think about before dealing with updating or installing a tethered jailbreak. If you do decide you'd like to take the plunge and update, you can grab a link from our downloads section below!
